Sound disappeared

Hello

i use the SimCity 4 launcher and one day i checked the disable sound option in the launcher and played, after that i unchecked it but the sound has never come again, even if i directly start the game

Anyone had this problem? im a really big noob

It could be like the -f and -w for full screen and windowed mode wherein if using one option and then removing it, it stays that way unless specifically using the other option. So, I'm not familiar with launcher, but if you can add -audio:on to your startup shortcut for the normal way to launch the game that might do it. Or, perhaps, just go into a city and select the Audio Options and enable the sound and/or music there. Save, exit, and then try playing again using the launcher.

Woot! And you're welcome. Can I presume that means it's ok even when using the launcher after having done that?

That was a secondary long shot in the hopes it could be easier than editing the start up parameters.

but i wont brother trying to fix it since im just downloading a bunch of mods and testing then i´ll probably will start a clean game again. And this definitely will take a good time to do

Smart idea.... to 'reset' it, just delete the one you currently have.  You'll of course have to tweak the settings back to your liking on the first restart after doing that.  That file can get corrupted easily (like power outages) which will cause it to not save settings, but it's an easy thing to fix

 

Edit: and yeah, that file is binary, not plain text

what you are seeing here is when you open a file that your text editor doesn't know how to read.

Now if you were to delete the config file and restart the game wouldn't it see that the config file is missing and create a fresh one??

Another thing I just thought of is that maybe the config file got their permissions set to read only. This would prevent any changes from taking place, however it seems likely that what I mentioned above could fix it.
