Alright, so I've been working hard at playing the game, and it appears things are going to turn out a little differently than I had predicted. Instead of the next city being about 50, 55,000 people strong, I've done about a 1/3 or of it, maybe 1/4, and it's already got 60,000 people. This number'll be reduced in an attempt to make some parts look more realistic (a ring of low density res/com around the downtown area) but keep in mind that there's still about 2/3 of the city to develop, which means we could be seeing a potential size of more than 200,000.

This would be hell on my computer, so I may attempt to corral the city in a bit. But as of now, after the 2 upcoming updates from Newport, expect big things from the little city that could...Grand Bay!

And to hopefully get you drooling, here's a region pic, as of 5 minutes ago via Region Census:

    grandrivervalley19in.jpg

Thanks guys! Look for an update...tomorrow if I remain sick (and as a result, stay home from school) Tuesday or Wednesday if I don't.

Being sick even has its advantages... 2.gif

Great tour Jamie. The small details such as the cemetery and the rail yard right next to the pond are a nice touch. I like the calm neighborhoods and excellent job with the farms.

    Get well soon 10.gif.

    OK, apology time...

First off, I want to apologize for the lack of updates, especially promised ones. My MSN buddies know I'm never on anymore, and that the schoolwork load has been absolutely incredible. Also, I'm a do-it-all guy, so there's plenty of other things keeping me busy.

Secondly, I'm sorry, because the earliest an update'll come is Saturday. I've got one ready, I just can't seem to find the time to get it out there! And as I've said before, I've got my hands full with plenty of other things...

However, I've taken a teaser pic of Grand Bay, which has now grown to 315,000 people and is about 40-45% done. It's a work in progress: you can still see some empty space. But I still think they look pretty good...I guess you can judge for yourself.

    -------------------------

Macintosh and Davidson is a holdings and equities companies rooted right here in Grand Bay. 3 years ago, they built their home base on Grisham Street, and the Atlantia Tower is now also home to 8 other extremely successful companies.

    -------------------------

Well...that's it for now. I'll answer your comments (which I'm thankful for, I might add) when I do a proper update. See you all soon!

Looks good, though i see even Grand Bay can't escape the plague of Wren Insurance.

Nice to see you back, and I understand what you're going through, as I'm dealing with basically the same thing. Hope to see the update soon.

Last year you have encouraged me by coming by and leaving a comment in my CJ Nexis of Genesis some times, so the least I can do is to come see your CJ once in awhile, right?
I like it, I like the whole thing, story included. It took me several hours to go through it all (with my 56Kconnection) but it was worthwhile. I like the way you disperse and organize the farms, although I don't really like the kitchy colours of some of the farmfields, but you managed to make them look good anyways.
Your road layouts look good also, so do the highways.
Wow, you have a lot of work to do to fill this region of yours, now don't ya?....lol

One thing though , I saw a picture in your collection (see below) and I was instantly stunned. It is so beautiful and yet so simple, but most of all, that place, I know and it is here in a town of Quebec, almost identical, well, at least I recognized it. Same road, same houses (except for the blackroofed ones) and even the trees make me think of it...Coincidence?.....must be!

Anyway, You've done a very good job on your CJ sofar, so let's get on with it.

    GreekMan: Thanks!

Kyle: Thanks...indeed, Wren Insurance definitely has a monopoly on the real estate market in Grand Bay, and likes to prove its domination through building multiple identical towers face-icon-small-confused.gif At least I think so. Once again, thanks for the comment!

mrbisonm: Always good to see the greats around here...your chest puffs up a little, there's a spring in your step...face-icon-small-happy.gif Anyways, I'm really glad you like the whole thing. As for that pic, many of the pics I took from Belmont reminded me of my own hometown, and it's cool that it hit a nerve with you too. Thanks for the comment, and I hope I see you back here eventually!

    Deathtoall: As usual...thanks! face-icon-small-tongue.gif

sloppet: Thanks to you as well!

    Jacky: Thanks x3!

    Fabiocb: Thanks x4! face-icon-small-tongue.gif

All: Well, I've got a couple updates in the pipeline, so you should see those soon. I think you'll like what comes next, I know I did...what can I say? Boredom is a powerful thing...face-icon-small-wink.gif Thanks for all the wonderful comments, and let's hope this CJ picks up with the new ST!

No more comments eh? That's alright, I'll live...anyways, this is a purely text update, but very very important...of course, it could just be because I just worked out and can't move my arms very much face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Heading into Newport, Mr. Jones and I were listening to the adult contemporary sounds of CBC Radio. A little bit of Sam Roberts, and we were rocking out all the way down the highway, when a breaking news bulletin came about.

"Attention all travellers headed to the Newport/Grand Bay area: all entrances to the city have been locked down. Bombs have went off in the downtowns of both cities, with the damage being centred around Carter and French Associates in Newport and the Atlantia Tower in Grand Bay. I repeat, all travellers heading to Newport and/or Grand Bay will not be able to get in."

We looked at each other, and pulled over on the side of the road, considering our options.

"Well, that pretty much screws everything up."

"And I wanted to see Grand Bay so badly before my condition gets any worse..."

I swallowed deeply and thought it over. "We could head southwest...the Garrett River is beautiful in fall and winter. Plus, you'll get a taste of the big city: suburbs and all, it's about the same size as Grand Bay/Newport Metro: 580,000."

"You never cease to amaze me, James. I guess we'll head southwest then!" As long as Mr. Jones was satisfied, I was satisfied. The sounds of Sam Roberts came back on CBC Radio, and we turned around on the highway, rocking out in a totally different fashion.

Comments would be lovely...a pictorial update should come within a short while. No promises from me, though! face-icon-small-wink.gif Thanks for the comments and views, hope to see some familiar faces here!

Hmmm, quite interesting. I'll be looking forward to seeing what this Garrett River looks like, but I'd wager that it's awe-inspiring. I'll be busy this week preparing for the Navy Ball this weekend, bnut hopefully I'll be around to reply to any updates.

Hey Jamie. I'm looking forward to Grand Bay. I like small towns and rural areas, but it's always great to see them alternated with more urban areas. And the cliffhanger's great, btw. Take care. - Phil

nycsc4: Thanks, and it'll be here soon! (Like hopefully tonight)

Bernhard: Welcome back to you too. Indeed, highrises...well, not anymore, we won't be getting to a bigger city for a while now. More like...suburbish, until we cross the river, then we get into farmland, then we come back around and finally get to the big city!

As for using Mozilla, I do, but I have no clue what you mean by carriage returns. Like using bold or italics? 46.gif I'm sure I'll figure it out. Thanks for the comment!

hyped_up_boy: Yeah...unfortunately, I don't have any pictures, I don't think demolishing a building and taking snapshots does it justice. It's not like 9/11 could be recreated in SC4, so why try to do something like it? Anyways, thanks for the comment, and come back soon!

Kyle: Thanks buddy. The Garrett River is pretty much all hype...I'll try my best to make it look nice, but in reality it's Saskatoon. 3.gif Nothing special. The Navy Ball eh? You're always bringing a touch of class to my CJs 2.gif Have a great time, and once again, thanks.

    sloppet: Thanks!

Phil: I'm mad at you...27.gif For the last few weeks, every time I see one of your posts, I can't help but crave a lovely, sugary, DELICIOUS Tim Hortons donut...and it's all your fault. 3.gif

Unfortunately, you won't be able to see Grand Bay...while downloading a region, I accidentally "took out" the Grand River Valley, and Grand Bay/Newport with it. Thus, the terrorist attacks...anyways, glad you like everything, and thanks for the comment! 9.gif

All: I'm still not making any promises, but if I was, I'd say there was an update tonight. 2.gif Thanks for all the wonderful comments and stay tuned, there's still plenty of ground to cover in this CJ!

Forgive me for not checking in for the last while. Your updates have been superb. The storyline continues to be excellent, and the pictures absolutely beautiful. Postcard beautiful. You've definitely convinced me as soon as the STEX is back online to download that farm package from Barby.

Also, do you think you could repost that link to information on ALS? It seems to have been lost in the transfer to 5.0.

Keep up the amazing work, I'll definitely be checking in more often now.

Fischbob: Hey, no problem. We all get caught up with RL sometimes...Postcard beautiful eh? That's quite the compliment, thanks. 4.gif As for that ALS link, I'll edit the update and post it at the end once I'm done. Thanks for the comment and hope you enjoy the update!

    Well, I guess it's time...for the update! 9.gif

After going down the highway for a few days, we finally arrived at one of the suburban entrances to the Garrett River area: Garden Heights, population 8,600.

    gardenheightsoct11211415035895.jpg

The entrance was non-descript: a water tower, some high-tech workplaces, and small businesses lining the highway. Much of the Garrett River area towns and cities were designed this way-commercial along all the main roads for short commute times and easy access.

    gardenheightsoct11211415036527.jpg

Taking a little detour, we visited the Garden Heights Memorial Centre, where John Diefenbaker's father-in-law was buried. There seemed to be some strange play or something going on...all we noticed was that the ghosts looked awfully lifelike. Who knows, Hallowe'en was the night before...

    gardenheightsoct11211415037292.jpg

We were staying at the nicest hotel in Garden Heights, the Arabian. Suites like ours on the 2nd-highest floor cost $400/night, and needless to say, the experience was fantastic. The amazing dinner at Pesto's, just up the street; the amazing opulence of the room; and the complimentary Armani cologne. Nothing gets a woman looking like Armani Code...

    gardenheightsoct11211415038193.jpg

We had a few options as to where to go next. We could head east, towards more suburbs and eventually, the super-flat Prairies:

    gardenheightsoct11211415038596.jpg

Or, we could head west, to the riverside, following the river north until hitting McAuley, the centre of the region:

    gardenheightsoct11211415039035.jpg

Finally, we decided to stop, not having considered the third option that would ultimately lead us to the end of our journey and the location of the death of Mr. Jones.

Well, hopefully that whets your appetite a little longer, dear readers...I was having some problems with ImageShack, so I chose to divide the one update into two, and I think it'll work out OK. Thanks for all the views and comments, and have a great night!

Wow, what a bit of suspense to leave us hanging with...

I must say that the city looks superb. The first shot with the water tower and such just looks incredibly realistic.

And I'm fine with it being Saskatoon, part of my family came out of the Saskatchewan praries, and my great aunt lives in Saskatoon.

Thanks for the wishes, and so far everything seems to be going well in preparation. Hopefully my luck will continue to trundle down the path it's followed today. I'm hoping I can talk to my date on AIM tonight in order to set up an additional outing, but if not, I'll see her tomorrow.

I'm sorry Jamie. I didn't mean to upset anyone 4.gif. Maybe I'm gonna change that avatar... to hamburger & fries 3.gif.

Well, of course they can't go to Grand Bay now, after the terror attacks... stupid me 21.gif. But great update. It's a nice small town once again. You seem to like cemetaries a lot. Well, I admit they blend well with the storyline. Death is omnipresent in Mr Jones' life.

Can't wait for your next one.
