I was trying to install iLive's reader version 1.5.4 on my machine, but when it tries to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable file, I get the error 'Your machine does not meet the requirements to install this software' because apperantly I have a newer version of C++ 2010 installed.  My question is do I just uninstall the current C++ 2010 file I have and try to re-install, or is there some other work around to get Reader 1.5.4 to install?

Currently I do have Reader version 0.93 and 1.5.2 installed and working on my machine.

OS is Windows 7 Professional.

I'm almost, but not quite certain, this post on Devotion has the answer:

The iLives installer gives me this message:

In reference to the issue of receiving the following error when trying to install v1.54:

"Setup has detected that this computer does not meet the requirements to install this software. The following blocking issue must be resolved before you can install Microsoft visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistribution Setup software package.

Please Resolve the following:
A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 redistribution has been detected on the machine"

I've discovered the following:  This is a Microsoft error and has nothing to do with iReader.  The following link explains in some detail:

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/vsnetsetup/2014/07/17/installation-failing-with-a-newer-version-of-microsoft-visual-c-2010-redistributable-has-been-detected-on-this-machine/

I found the easiest thing to do is to uninstall any existing versions of the 2010 redistributable per the above link.  Then you have a choice of downloading the package(s) directly from Microsoft, or letting the iReader setup program install it.  If you download from Microsoft and install separately, the iReader setup program will recognize the correct version of the redistributable, and immediately launch the setup of iReader.

Make sure you uninstall the x64 version if you had it installed, as it apparently suffered the same problem.  Just download the x64 package from Microsoft and reinstall separately.

Unless Windoze-7 is totally Borked, you should be able to simply copy the DLL file to the same folder where you placed the iLives EXE. According to MS, that is the first place an app looks for needed DLLs.

The problem in this case is it comes as an MSI (MicroSloth Installer) package and that refuses to proceed once it gets confuzzled about the redistributable files. Therefore one cannot get to the actual Reader EXE until the installer can be convinced it's ok to unpack said file.

Have you tried to run the iLives 1.54 to see if it works with the newer DLL? If not, what exact DLL does it demand? That DLL file is probably available from somewhere. In fact, I probably have it since I run iLives 1.54 myself. If it needs the older version (can't run with the one you already have) then I stand by my prior advice: Don't replace the new one in your system; instead add the old one in the folder where you put the iLives EXE.

Like Cori said, iLive uses an installer, which won't run because of the error....therefore no access to any of the DLLs and no possibility of running version 1.54.

I will follow MS advice posted in Cori's link and uninstall my current C++ 2010 version and either let the iLive installer install the expeceted version or go to the MS website and install it from there.

    Edit:

Update - I uninstalled the C++ 2010 version that was causing the issue. ILive's Reader installed fine after that.  Thanks for the help everyone.

Hello, I am trying to install Reader 1.5.4. (win10 pro 64). Like Prophet42, I had to remove the current version of c++2010, because the Reader setup was blocking on vcredist_x86. Then install an older version. Reader setup worked, installing the app. But when I want to launch the program, I have the following message: unable to find resFR.dll. I can't find any trace of this DLL anywhere on the net!! Does anyone have a solution or this dll??
Thank you in advance for your help.

    resFR.dll.

I suspect that is simply the French version of res.dll which is included with Reader 1.5.4. My guess is other language frameworks then call for those by language name.

As a test, locate C:\Program Files (x86)\ILives\ILives Reader154\res.dll on your comp and copy that to a file in the same location named as resFR.dll.

It should then do whatever it's supposed to do, but will likely show English instead of French for whatever parts of the program it handles.

Youhoo! Thank you ! Well done Cori, you're the best!

I duplicated this dll and the app works.

Incidentally, it is surprising that it asks for this resFR.dll when installing it, if it is not present in the .msi!!?? Is it present in your version?

I admit that having the FR version would help me. Maybe there is a way to decompile the dll to retranslate it?

My guess is programs made using a NET Framework are expected to have a .dll for every possible language. So, the base res.dll is the only one of that name in the .MSI, but the OS itself expects any such .dll to have the name plus the letters to designate the language if not English.

No. I only have the res.dll version with no FR or any other letters added.

Maybe, but it'd get way more technical than I'd personally attempt.
