Why Maxis Didn't Implement Detailed Mayor Rating?

Hello,

I've questions regarding Mayor Rating:

  1. Why Maxis named Mayor Rating as such? Why not Happiness (although it's available in the translation) index?
  2. Why Maxis didn't implemented detailed Mayor Rating system in SimCity 4 like SimCity (2013) and Bhutan's GNH (yes, Bhutanese gov uses GNH to measure it's populations instead of just focusing on GDP) and implemented it as Citizen Opinion Poll? I think SC4's MR isn't implemented realistically.

You'd have to ask Maxis, I don't know of them ever addressing this question. Personally I think the two terms mean pretty much the same thing.

Most likely it's just not something they either technically could or wanted to include. Game development is usually a progressive thing, with new features and expansions being included with sequels. Whilst the rating itself may seem simple, the calculations behind it are anything but.

I agree both SC (2013) and Cities Skylines, which frankly copied Maxis here, do give great UI overlays to see what's going on in detail with your population. Either that hadn't been thought of or wasn't technically possible to implement previously.
