There are several lots in the game that only allow a single instance of that lot. You can edit them, but "there can be only one", of that type. That's the reason the "save-as" won't be available.

Maxis Base Textures white

Recently, I had a bad computer crash, losing all of my SC4 files. When I got them back (yesterday), I opened up LE and noticed that  some of the Maxis textures were white.

Any reason why?

Only some of the Maxis Base Textures (The farms and grass, to be precise) are white. All the other base textures are correct. But, the snow mod question is a good one, I'll just check. . .

What do you mean by a wierd glitch? Also what do you mean when you say your computer crashes? Is it a crash to desktop or does the computer shut down or does it blue screen?

When exactly does it crash? When you start it up or after you have been working with it for a while? If on starting, then how far does it get? Does it give any error messages?

Do you have a screenshot of the problem?

I would suggest trying the following:

Try closing all other applications that are running.

Re-download the LE to make sure you have the correct version (ie the BAT compatible one).

Check that both your plugin folders are empty (not just the my documents one).

Check the usual suspects like video card drivers and directx. Try running it in window mode, try specifying different screen resolutions.

Make sure your game is properly patched and up to date.

Have you modded any of your core dat files?

Usually a white base testure means that the texture is missing, ie the lot is referring to a particular texture id, but you do not have a texture by that iid in your plugins folder.

But those are not the same white as a missing base texture. I think you must have a snow mod of some kind.

yeah I reckon it could be snow modd now - I thought that was bit of a stupid question at the time but I can't think of what else it could be, cos when you normally are missing textures they are completely white, but yours shows parts of the details

well I'm no expert but it sounds like it could be a hardware issue, probably with your graphics card.

Next time you get the BSOD note down the relevant information at the top, including the error type. You might also want to search the Bugs and Techincal issues forum because someone has probably had this happen before.

Have you previously been able to run the Lot Editor on this computer? What about SC4 itself? Does it still run properly.

I would also suggest running a maintenance sequence on your computer. ScanDisk, defrag all that stuff. Clean up any dust that may be clogging the fan etc.

Also check DirectX.

Changing Resident Occupancy

I was working on making some townhouses today, on a 1x2 lot.  When I finished them, I loaded SC4, and to my surprise, the townhouses have a 600 sim occupancy level.  When I used LE, I used a small 1x2 low density R$$ lot.  I'm still really new to using the plugin manager and the Ilive Ready.  Can someone help me change that, please?  Thanks

The lot is doesn't set the occupancy, the building does that. You should be able to change the parameters with SC4Tools, or iLives Reader. There are other tools by iLives that can do the same thing, I am just not familiar with them.

You need to open your SC4Desc file in Reader, or rather in SC4Tool, which is probably easier since you won't have to perform hexadecimal arithmetics with it.

The property you need to change is called Capacity Satisfied, and in your case it would contain two settings, one for R§§ and one for R§, which is the occupancy the building would have when dilapidated. The R§ occupancy should be roughly twice the R§§ occupancy.

Thanks tungston and RippleJet. When I made my lot, it did not make a .desc file, so I couldn't use the PM, and the hexadecimal system is way beyond my understanding. I'll give SC4Tool a try and see what happens! Thanks again.

Well, I don't know what I'm missing, but I cannot find the "Capacity Satisfied" anywhere in SC4Tool. I've been trying to use the Exemplar Editor, and the Comparer to see if that would help, but I am sooo lost. Is it because I don't have a .desc file?

Base and overlay problem

I am trying to do my own overlays. I don't have a problem getting them into the lot editor but they are showing up in the base textures and not in the overlays. I followed Darkmatter's " Creating New Base And Overlay Textures "

I just don't know how to get it to show in the overlay list and not in the base list.

Thanks.

Sorry for the numerous posts, but I decided, as I was waiting, that I would find the .model files for the houses I used. Well, I found them. I checked the "Capacity Satisfied" in SC4Tool, and it was only 36. So, I'm confused why, then, are my lots still 600?

Cleaning out the Plug-in Manager

With my last house, I ended up having to make that house into a plugin 4 times, so not I have four copies of that house in my plugin manager, and when I do the BuildingPlop cheat in the game, it shows up 4 times, and only one works (the final version)

Is there a way to clean the unused buildings out of the plugin manager so it's not so messy and cluttered?
