I made a new city and I'm having increasingly bad traffic along the highway junctions to the urban center. I could fix all the other traffic problems, but this had me stumped.

 

Please note: I use the realistic population mod.

Edit: I decided to look at the city again and traffic is much worse. I just recently added the district across the river and was so focused on the urban center that I forgot about everything else.

I've downloaded it and played it for a bit (with despawn off). The main issue is you have a big motorway running through the middle with very few roads crossing it so they all get jammed. Also you have several slip roads from the motorway feeding into a narrow residential style road. You need more alternative routes across the motorway and use 3+1 roads after the motorways to traffic and spread out more.
