Saving City Error

Hey there!

So, after about six months of not playing the game, I decided to fire the game up (SC4 Deluxe) again. The game runs fine and all and when I was working on a city, all of a sudden, when I try to save it tells me:

Error Saving City (City name.sc4)

I'm running SC4 on Windows 10 (latest version) so i'm not sure if that's causing the issue, but SC4 was working just fine on Windows 10 before.

Any idea on this issue if anyone can help?

I'm not an expert on this, but it sure sounds like a permissions thing caused by 10. Until the gurus get here, you could Google that and try to give yourself Admin rights to the SC4 folders. Or try starting the game using the Run as Admin option. (I believe you right-click the icon to get there.)

Thanks, but unfortunately that didn't do it. I'm concerned i'll have to reinstall again and then go through the looooong process of putting all the plugins and dependencies back in. Such a shame. Not sure what the issue is.

Don't panic yet. And if you do decide on a reinstall, back up your plugins because if you got them a long, long time ago they might not still be available online. Have you tried creating a new region and doing a test city and see if it errors out?

No, I haven't, BUT! I did do a little trick right now that i'll test and see if that worked.

HA!! It worked!

So the issue was that my antivirus was set on high settings during that Ransomware scare we had a while back and so, I had forgotten to take those settings down. It was perceiving SC4, trying to save Cities, as Ransomware and as such, blocking the savings of the cities. Changing those settings for SC4 worked!

I'm running the GOG version of SimCity 4 Deluxe on Windows 10 64-bit, and the game recently started doing this to me. It began when I attempted to import a map that I had created. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I added the game's .exe to Windows Defender's acceptance list, but it's still doing it.

you need to log in to windows security ransomware protection and turn off Controlled Folder Access
