Hello,

I'm don't pretend to teach. I want some help. Can you explain how to texture the NAM in logical way with GIMP?

Thanks.

If you want to know how to make textures, there is no easy answer. Tutorials exist for learning GIMP, I'd start there.

If you are looking for how to make those textures appear in game, the process depends on what you are trying to achieve. The basics are the same in any case, which is that your textures should ideally be 128x128px in size, although you can use 256x256px textures if you prefer. The game uses a format called FSH for textures, you will need to convert your working textures into FSH at some point. As such, you are best working with either PNG or BMP format for the source textures. I use BMPs exclusively because having dedicated alpha channels makes things much more flexible. A lot of people can't be bothered with that and use PNGs which have the transparency or alpha channel baked into them. If you are using BMPs, then get yourself a copy of GoFSH, it's the only texturing tool you'll ever need. Otherwise, for PNGs, PNG2FSH Batch is the simplest way to get your textures converted to FSH.

So lets assume you have your textures and want to override an existing texture from the game. To do that, you must ID the replacement with the same ID as the piece you want to replace.

On the other hand, if you want to add new content to the NAM, that opens a whole other bag of worms. Because you will need an assigned ID range and also to add the code/other parts necessary for it to work.

If you want specific help, then we need to know specifics. So for example, what exactly did you want to change add? Do you want to change the style/appearance of the road textures for example? Knowing what you are trying to do makes it much easier to give you a more helpful answer.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Dear Robin, @rsc204 Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, I want to know if i could make a SAM mod, I got this idea from a movie,*:blush: and i have half made a seamless texture for this with Photoshop from scratch, i could handle the basic procedure of Gofsh and batch of Photoshop, when i looked into the dat file of SAM (E.g. SAM4), i saw tons of FSHs there, Frankly, kind of dizzy,*:D So May i ask that should i modify them one by one? I mean for zoom 5 then let GOFSH to do the other zooms, even though, it's a huge and tedious work ahead(maybe hundreds), Right? Anyway, i'd like to listen to your advice on this, Thank you!:}

Sincerely,

-- Raymond

Tell me which SAM set you are thinking of overriding, I can send you a GoFSH repository, which will save a lot of time and give you a complete set of reference textures. Don't miss some little tools installed with GoFSH, Bender makes short work of converting a basic Straight into Curves. Once you've a good set of the 5-10 main textures, you can make most others using them as templates. SAM isn't a terrible workload, you're looking around 110/120 textures perhaps for a full set. Again I can help with SAM WRCs, since I worked with Eggman on that for during development. I've also got some PhotoShop templates for making Rail/GLR textures I can share with you too.

Thank you so much! @rsc204, Frankly, i thought i was kind of rude, i should override one first to see if it deserves your help, and yes i have learnt rivit's instruction but haven't got a chance to experience Bender, Thank you Robin, i will tell you when i'm ready,.*:thumb:

LOL, couldn't be further from reality. Here's what I'm talking about, just to give you a clearer picture:

SAM4.jpg.3e45e1c421b881fd56641fce947fc6a2.jpg

I've already got these on OneDrive, as part of my TGN working repository for each SAM set. I just need to know which SAM set you require and I can zip it up and send it to you. So it's really no work from my side ;). One day all this will be publicly available, but I'm just not ready yet to release it into the wild. However, I know all to well about the productivity gains of having such repositories, having had to build all mine from the ground up.
