Ploppable RICO & Building Themes Settings

Apparently I have a failing SSD.  I'm about to perform a Windows reinstall and all the hassle that follows.  I have all my saves etc. backed up and assets/mods in a collection but what should I save to capture my Ploppable RICO and Building Themes settings?  Is there a file or two I can copy into my new install folder (or appdata) to not have to go through and set up the themes and personal RICO settings again myself?

Thanks.

If you have local rico assets save the "LocalRICOSettings.xml" in your program folder.

Both xml files are in the same folder as the Cities.exe file (typically something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines). Grab "LocalRICOSettings.xml" and "BuildingThemes.xml" (and any other mod settings you might want to keep).

When I re-install the game or start completely a-fresh for a new city, there's always a few folders that I back up:
- Workshop folder (so I'll have every Workshop item archived, just in case);
- all mod files (.bak, .json, .xml,  .txt) in the game's installation folder;
- my local C:SL folder (C:\Users\{Windows_UserName}\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines), which contains locally installed custom content as well as your saves, screenshots, additional mod configs and various other things).

After re-installing and downloading everything from the Workshop, I copy the backed-up config files and local stuff back to their intended location, and everything should (no guarantees, this game can be one finicky little biatch) be back to normal again.

    Ok so if I understand correctly my local RICO settings and custom building themes are defined in .xml's which are in the installation directory.  I told steam to install to my D: drive so that should all still be there (C: is failing).

    I think I have my C:\...\AppData\Local\... backed up but it may be a bit old.  It's also on Win10's "auto backup" path but I don't have a ton of confidence in it.  Unfortunately I won't be able to check until my new drive comes in the mail tomorrow and I can reinstall Windows.

    Reinstalling C:S and even installing many GB of mods/assets isn't the worry as much as going through and redoing my building themes and RICO settings so it's good to hear I hopefully won't have to.

    Thanks all.

    As far as mod configs are concerned, the AppData stuff doesn't contain nearly as much important data than the game install folder (the big hitters like RICO, Building Themes or Traffic mods all save their config in the latter). The only real loss would be your save games and local assets, if you have any.

    But your building themes (if self created) are in appdata.

    Unless I'm overlooking something, I think you mean Styles (the simplified building themes that CO added to the game), not the themes that you create with Boformer's Building Themes mod: those are all stored in BuildingThemes.xml in the installation folder.
    Everything you create in-game is stored in the AppData folder: stuff like city saves, custom Styles, Map Themes, local mods/assets (buildings you've customized in the Asset Editor)/LUTs, etc. If you want to re-use them after a re-install, you should definitely back the entire Addons folder in AppData up as well!

    I managed to browse my backups from another machine last night and it looks like the Windows 10 backup feature actually worked (go figure).  It looks like I'll be able to restore both my program folder since it was on D: and my appdata folder because it was backed up.

    I'll be up late working on it but at least I didn't lose anything.  This is why I record ahead.

    Thanks for looking into it for me.
