Attack of the ugly, but modern color scheme, Walmart:

Plan to simply release this as a building prop in my next prop pack, whenever that will be.

I'm not very strip-mallesque myself but I appreciate the variety of your creations ! Could you perhaps, in some flight of fancy, add solar panels on those roofs and, for real grocery stores, perhaps even (good lord !) some greenery ? you know, Self-Promotion in the Time of Cholera, er, Time of Climate Change,:  “we grow our own vegetables with the help of local farmers” etc.

At least solar panels ? (as I suppose they cannot be added in the L.E. by well-meaning ecologists ? :bunny:)

By the way, we also have cookies at Tariely's Little Shop of Relots (and Lots)

I understand that my stuff doesn't have a lot of greenery on the BAT itself, but honestly, these BATs not having a lot of plant detail is realistic to most commercial buildings. The most they do have in real life would be possibly have some trees in a planter, occasional flower bed or hedge around the building. (At least from what I've experienced personally.)

Adding a rooftop garden to the stuff I've made to this point isn't realistic. That is typically only found in urban areas where space is limited.

Even if adding more greenery would be an ideal, I personally don't feel I could do them justice especially since there are plenty of plants/trees and related stuff already made by others by the use of props.  I admit I could add solar panels to future endeavors and I suppose adding them to a modern version of Walmart makes sense.

Not in the plans as of this time, but maybe down the road.

I was not really hoping for greenery, I know a loosing battle when I see one *:) (and the technical problems),  but I was hoping for an answer re solar panels which are the first and most serious part of my question/request *:). I know present stripmall buildings don't have them on their vast and uselessly blah expanses of roofs *:), but why not anticipate a little bit ? dream a little bit ? Are we condemned to repeat only what was and is, in SimCity ? *:)

how far back have you gone with adding jobs to the mods?  do you plan to go back to them all? i was about to redo my list and remove mods that don't work, when i saw that you were working on this. malls acting as a park wasn't going to work well. glad to see all that you have done.

may i ask what is the difference between a relot and a mod? i notice most relots send me to download the original anyhow.  thank you

All of my stuff that I personally made custom now have jobs or serve as a clinic or small school.

Relots don't count as the BATs on them are made by someone else; all I did for those was update the surroundings (aka the lot) around the BAT. Whether those actually have jobs depends on the original creator.

This is what most of the Walmart’s near me in Utah look like. I’m a Kroger kid in real life so we don’t really shop there though.

Most Walmart stores are going to this color scheme all across the country. The interior decor package that comes with this (dubbed Black Decor 2.0) is really nice, but the exterior paint job is absolutely horrible to me. I much prefer the earth tones paint job personally.

Be nice if Kroger would come to my region, but at least we got Wegmans.

Kroger doesn't own the Lucky brand; they are simply an investor for that company. Technically speaking, Lucky is still a different company.

Yes..... I agree. Kroger is helping them expand and hope to expand with them. It’s a  partnership.

I’ve never been to a Wegmans but I’ve seen some fancy store exteriors. They seem like high end grocers.   Maybe one day we’ll see one in SimCity 😉

Any of their newer stores are indeed really fancy. Even though this is the case, I don't consider Wegmans to be extremely high-end, but it does share some business decisions that high-end supermarkets tend to do. I've honestly have been considering doing a modern Wegmans, but haven't yet as it would really time consuming to do. There is that much detail to them.

Correct, though I assume you mean relot. This is an example of Wegmans' earlier stores mainly in Western New York closer to the Rochester HQ.

I meant one day I may make this.  I just started attempting to make buildings.  I just downloaded GMAX and hope to one day do one of those, as well as some in Utah and more single family homes because when I play SimCity 4 I mostly build suburbs.  I can’t promise It will be amazing but hopefully one day I’ll get there.

My my goal is to make:

    cloud9 (from superstore)

some W2W buildings from Bob’s burgers

    more single family homes

    additional Kroger KMA stores

    some more suburban schools

Also in Utah large concrete letters constructed on the side of the mountains like the B in Bountiful or the U by the University of Utah  I’d like to recreate those

    and who knows what else.

But i work 60+hours a week so it will come with time.

    Ah cool!

Yeah, I can tell from experience your best bet is to be patient as you learn how to make stuff.  Personally, I would not recommend using a modern Wegmans as one of your first projects. Even with my experience, I'm hesitant about doing one.

Fun fact: The 'Cloud 9' pilot episode of season 1 was filmed inside a Kmart.

I'll be out of town for the next few days, but before I go here is a look at the walls now constructed.

The taller wall area is going to be a JCPenney, which will be an anchor for the now named Village Crossroads Mall. The idea is this mall was built during the 1970s, but has kept up with trends by keeping itself overall healthy. In real life I'd say this would be a 'B-class' mall. I honestly have a lot of thought into the history of this made-up mall which I'll go into detail at a later date.

Basically, here's the stores the mall will have:

(The Payless space is no longer being used, but since it is a recent closure I put it on the map anyways)

Some of the areas seen represent rooms for mall offices, storage space for various tenants and other needs such as HVAC/electrical, etc.
