Agreed. Hence I don't see an issue with going off-topic. After all, we're all here to discuss, a bit of freedom and flexibility keeps activity on the site more alive IMHO. Given how quiet it was for a while back there, I think where possible we should encourage discussion within reason.

Yea , forums can die so easily. So why kill what little activity there is. Like if someone is talking about something in SimCity 4 and someone randomly starts talking about Bacon out of no where , that is one thing. but to start dissecting threads up is micromanagement at an insane level. Much of the staff here I've no issue with. but when ina starts wanting to do this or that , it gets to be too much.

Let's try to keep this impersonal please. If you have an issue with a particular moderator or action, that's not up for discussion in public forms. It should be done over PM in an official capacity, i.e. it's to be taken up with the Admins, who moderate the moderators.

In Corina's defence (I'll mention it briefly, but for absolute clarity, it's not for debate here), sometimes there is a need for moderators to be pro-active. We don't always get things right, we're all human.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

just leave it here and I am Hayley. no new topics.

Hi Hayley. Pleased to meet you.

Re: the moving of threads, I find that keeping things in order is ideal, but we should have a place to move things to. ST has an influx of new moderators with new moderator powers, so some shuffling and shifting of the deck as things fall into place is to be expected, especially as we all learn the ropes and the forum software.

I don't mind leaving this here. If we want to make a computer/technical discussion in the SC4 Technical Discussion/Bugs forum, and then move it over, I don't mind, but it's not particularly egregious to me. It would give a practical place to contain these discussions, rather than have them scattered over the forums like this (or having to go offsite to someplace like Notebookreview.com)

As @rsc204 nicely explained on the previous page, topics may be split for the sake of clarity. It's not a case of staff fault-finding or being pedantic -- that's far from the intention. Rather these are judgement calls part of being a moderator. One consideration is for other members who may discover topics, and how easily they can find answers. There's nothing worse that following a Google hit for your question, only to find the solution is scrambled and obscured. You then have to go rummaging through unrelated posts, to eventually stumble upon the answer. I'm sure everyone would agree this is rarely of benefit.

In this particular instance, I'd say it could be taken either way. I don't see harm in splitting the discussion, since it's clearly drifted away from the original intent, especially now. Although on the other hand, especially since the question has been answered (pretty much in the first reply), and @AprilAero is happy to continue on the new subject, that can be respected. In other words, it's a borderline call which can divide opinion, even amongst ourselves!

The purpose of moderation is to help, not hinder the flow of discussions. Like most things, it's all about balance: Too much can be a hindrance, just like with too little. Getting this right is never easy. We do make mistakes, even with good intentions.

Indeed, for any concerns about how the site is run, please contact me or another Admin in private. All feedback is considered, and we continually strive to keep this an open, friendly and welcoming community. :)

    Thanks,

    -CB
