So I've got the itch to play again. I've got a windows 7 computer with a fresh install of the game and the maxis patch nothing else, I booted up and we're good to go.

What would you guys recommend installing next Nam, Terraformer? I have a USB drive devoted to simcity 4 that i dug out that has a lot of stuff saved on it. I'm just looking for some pointers on a smooth transition back into the game. Anything big happen in the 2 years I've been gone? Any must have bat's lot's? Any significant changes? Thanks for any replies! Cant wait to start this game again!

Two big things: the CTDs when hovering transit enabled pieces have been resolved with the SC4fix, and the NAM is now mostly flex based, so it is possible to build complex networks without even using starters.

Oh, and about rail: the RealRailway grow to have many more wide curves and intersections, all of them draggable, and now there is in development a tool to customise the RRW textures.
