NAM confusion: curved roads and roundabouts

I started playing SimCity when it first came out in... 1989/90? I think the last version I played was 3k. A couple of weeks ago I got Simcity 4. Woot! I'm loving it! I'm generally happy with vanilla but installed NAM for the improved traffic flow and better road layout options.

Someday I'll figure out how to make a  no-car mass-transit city, but right now I just want to figure out how to make roundabouts and cul de sacs!! I've been playing around with the kajillion road options NAM has provided but I'm stumped.

Question, in precis: How do I make roundabouts and cul de sacs with NAM 34?

TIA
Jenny

@rsc204 has a YouTube Tutorial for NAM. That might be a good place to start. I couldn't hear any sound tho so I didn't watch more than a minute of it. (Maybe there isn't any.)

The cul de sacs should appear automatically, but since they don't seem to be doing so, you must not have them installed. Simply re-run the NAM installer (you don't need to uninstall the NAM before doing this), select "Custom install" and go through all the options and make sure the checkbox for cul de sacs is checked.

For the 2x2 roundabout, drag with the road tool in a 2x2 square and it will convert into a roundabout. For a slightly bigger 3x3 roundabout, use the one way road tool to make a 3x3 square. Make sure that you drag in the direction that traffic flows (counterclockwise if you have a RHD game setup), or the roundabout will not function properly.

Finally, the avenue roundabouts can be found by clicking the "AVE Intersections" button and using the tab key to go through all the various options.

Ah. I think the problem is that I don't have it installed. I didn't do a full install because I only wanted the traffic improvement and some new road & transit options. I'll run the installed again as you suggested. Thanks!

If you check out my NAM Tutorials videos, that will help you get to grips with the basics of using the NAM. The first video's audio isn't perfect, but it is there if you turn the volume up. In any case I cover roundabouts and the like in episode 2.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Oh that tutorial was awesome! I ran SC4 in window mode and switched back and forth to practice. That FAN 3 is rough.... I find it really hard to do. The street curves, cul de sacs, and roundabouts are fab. The road roundabouts (using one-way street) are perfect - just like real life. I love me a roundabout! Thank you for the very clear tutorials.
