6.gif6.gif6.gif6.gif6.gif I'm overwhelmed. This update is truly inspiring. It looks so realistic and still very lovely and peaceful.

You made my day man! These pics are so healthy for my eyes.

And thanks about the info. Though I've never seen that one in the bridge options. Gotta build more bridges I think...

i don't think i've posted here before, but this looks great! and for my usual CJ Constructive Criticism: when taking photos that you'll put here, turn off the grid so it blends together.

Thank you again for posting so many comments! I am really happy that so many of you like this CJ. It pushes me forward to build new exiting things to show you...

    railrod7:
Yes, I try to get away from the 90 degree grid as far as possible. Well, at least in certain areas of the cities, in others the grid is looking best...
And thank you for your very nice words.

    simster6:
Yes, this cathedral is really great!

    Cjah:
Thank you very much again! I am happy that you like the diversity I tried to create.

    threeswept:
    Thank you!!!

    Simworld 056132:
    Trixies?!? OMG!

    bat:
    Thank you for posting again!

    Vandy:
Thank you for your most elaborated post! I am sure you looked closely at every single picture.
This cathedral is actually a real world structure. It is the 'Dom' of Cologne, Germany. And it is available on the STEX, made by bandito, here is a link .
    The stairways are here .
The bridge with the roof is a normal raod bridge, just draw a bridge and you will get the option to build this one, at least in some cases.
The overlook is a bus station and is part of NOB's wall pack. You will find a link in the Massively Gigantic Japanese BAT Gallery .

    Kwakelaar:
That would be great if you could make them!
I like the map very much as well. No wonder - I made it. And I hope that it will look good then finished. But it is so big that it will take years to fill it.

    wallasey:
Thank you, I am glad that you like the close ups.

    magpieshooter:
Thank you for opening page 8.

    Bongoswimp:
Wow! Thank you very much for this nice comment! I made your day!?! Unbelievable!

    topcliff:
Welcome to Cadott Bay! I am glad that you like it.
    About the ugly grid lines:
This subject was already brought forward on the very first page of my first CJ 'A UK village'. What you see are not the normal grid lines, this lines stay wether I turn the grid on or off. Someone told me that this is a graphic bug of the Mac version of the game and that there is no solution. I am very sad about this, because I see how nice and clean the pictures of nearly all other CJs here on Simtropolis look. But I have to live with it. I am sorry for not being able to present petter pictures.

    Nardo69:
Well, I think your cities are very detailed, too. But thank you for the compliment.

    Cadott Titel NO 27.jpg

This is only a very small update. And I will show you work in progress, So don't expect the usual eye candy.
I thought you could like to see how I start to build new things as well.

I believe the green tunnel cover for the road is from the underbridge road on the STEX. Although, I would like to know where the custom bridge at the entrance is from...

    Another great update!

    Lord Kronos:
Welcome to Cadott Bay! The train station is the Estacao da Luz by frogface. The rail tunnel is a combination of a NAM road over rail bridge, NOB's new NAM lots and the grass lot of the underbridge road pack.

    bat:
    Thank you again!

    magpieshooter:
Thank you for answering the question of Lord Kronos. For the rest see above.

    topcliff:
Thank you, too, for answering the questions. You are right. And yes, I am playing on a small powerbook. And it works quite well.

    Bongoswimp:
    Thank you very much!

    Simbourgeois:
Comparing my small skills with the great Haussmann is a little bit off...
    But thank you anyway.

    2ch.net simplayer:
I am glad that you got some new ideas.

    Edit
    pikatchoum:
I missed you tripple post. Thank you a lot! I will show a picture of how the tunnel entrance is build next time.
    End Edit

    And now something else:

    BAT Request

You all know, that we have already a lot of very beautiful walls on the STEX. But they all have something in common: The all are sloped. I think it would be great to have a new kind of walls, vertical walls. Here is a picture to explain the situation:

    OldWalls.jpg

As you can see, there are generally two ways lots behave then plopped. Number 1 is the Maxis Open Pavement, this one adjusts itself to every slope it is plopped on. Number 3 and 4 are two examples of walls that behave the same way.
Now there is another possibility, a lot that builds a foundation and always stays horizontal. One example is number 2, the Maxis Small Park. To get it like in the picture you have to orient the zoning arrow of the lot so that it faces the upper road. Number 5 is one tile of marrast's see walls, it functions like this as well. But it builds a very angled wall that covers the road beneth it.

My idea is to make a new wall, that behaves like the Small Park or like marrast's see walls, just with a vertical wall. Here is a basic sketch:

    New-Wall-Idea-1.jpg

The wall is a little bit off the tile but thin enough to cover only a very small part of everything that happens to be on the lot next to it.

Of course this wall would look too plain. So I suggest to add some pillars like in this picture:

    New-Wall-Idea-2.jpg

To get it good looking then plopped in a row, the outer pillars are only half as wide as the inner one. That way two outer pillars of two wall segment will combine to a full pillar. (Is pillar the right word?)

The wall should have some kind of a top piece that extends a little bit over the wall to make it like a real wall, I just didn't put that in the sketch. This wall segment could be the first one to be made and a start to a whole set.

Of course we would need some variation. Here is an idea for a second segment:

    New-Wall-Idea-3.jpg

And now about the textures. I would like the wall to have the appearance of sand stone. Like the wall of the building shown in this picture:

    TextureIdeas.jpg

The texture of the ground could be just like the plazas Kwakelaar did, also highlighted in the above picture.
And I would also suggest to use porkissimo's street trees and benches and other props to fill the top area with life.

This could be the beginning of a great new wall set. I already have many pieces in mind. Examples:
    - Straight sections longer than one tile with different props on them.
    - A stair piece.
    - End pieces and corner pieces.
    - Diagonal pieces.
    - Sound wall pieces, to be used along busy highways.
    - Pieces that have an extension of the top area over the lot border, to partly cover highways under it.
    - And many more...

About the height of the wall: It should be high enough to prevent situations there the lot could be plopped on such steep slopes that the wall wouldn't reach the bottom. I would suggest that two times the height of the NAM puzze pieces should be enough.

If the pieces could be made ploppable on water as well (this should be possible), we could use them to build a new kind of see walls as well.

    All Batters out there:
What do you think? Do you like the idea? Do you think it would be much work?

I hope that someone in our great community will be able to make this new walls. It surely would be an adittion to our cities worth the effort.

I would like to work on this project for myself, but playing on a Mac, I am not able to use any modding software.

Kwakelaar: I do not ask you to step in again, however if you would like to do it, you would be most welcomed.

Please leave comments and suggestions about this new walls. I will happily post more sketches and write more about my ideas if I get some feedback.

Personally I would love to see this being pulled off, as here in norway, I rarely see any of these sloped walls. most often its a plaza, then it goes straight down. great cj, great idea, great everything29.gif

Great Job. I like the improvement to the island. I have often run into the same problem. The use of the embankments and walls are very original. The trees are very colorful and fit in well with the city. Same with the GLR snaking around the W2Ws. Great idea for the walls.

    Simen and mtbrocket:
    Thank you for posting.

    jeronij:
I am glad that you hade the time to have a look and to give your opinion.

I don't suggest to make them similar to PEG's walls, exactly for the reason that they cannot be made diagonal. I imagine something like marrast's or your walls, just with vertical walls.
Ah, so it will not be possible to use the same lots for land and sea walls. But perhaps a second set could be made after the land walls are done...
At least we will be able to use the land walls with the ploppable water.

    DragonAnime:
Thank you very much! Is that rail tunnel in your picture functional or eye candy?

    rooker1:
Wow, I am speachless... So big red letters...

    simster6:
I am using cycledogg's columbus textures with the snowmod by jeronij. Just search for cycledogg on the STEX.

I made some more sketches to explain what wall pieces will have to be made to get a complete set:

    First the orthogonal ones:

    NewWallPieces1.jpg

    1. Simple one tile straight section
    2. Inner corner
    3. Outer corner

Perhaps the outer corner piece could be made simetrical, that means it would be number 3 plus the number 1 segment on the left of it. I thought it would be nice to have round corners, because there are so few round things in the game. But they could be 90 degree as well.

    Now the diagonal ones:

    NewWallPieces2.jpg

    4. Left outer corner orthogonal/diagonal
    5. Left diagonal
    6. Inner diagonal
    7. Right diagonal
    8. Right outer corner orthogonal/diagonal

The last piece, number 8, could as well be the same as number 4, that depends on the details.

    More diagonal ones:

    NewWallPieces3.jpg

    9. Left inner corner orthogonal/diagonal
    10. Right inner corner orthogonal/diagonal
    11. Some filler lots

This should be all. Only some variation lots could be made additionally, like a straight segment with stairs, or a wider straight segment with other props like the porkie kiosk.

What do you think? Did I miss one piece?

I really hope that some people will be able to make this new walls.

And here is one other thing, I made a texture sketch to show you how I imagine the wall to look like:

    SandsteinMauerGerade.jpg

This is only a sketch. But do you like it?

The work your doing is truly great for common plaza wall everywhere...I feel the walls are a much needed touch to some of our cities...

I also love your wall idea, I htink peg made curved seawalls very similar to your idea. Except they were brick. I would definately use them if they came out!

Wow, what a spectacular cj! I love the classic look of the cities, and especially I adore your use of all kinds of walls. On the previous page there's a shot of a harboursite with stairways descending into the water: wonderful job! How did you get rid of the yellow lines on the latest NAM version? I also have the euro roadtextures installed, but I still see those awful yellow lines at intersections. Is there an additional file that can de downloaded?

    Great wotk! 35.gif35.gif35.gif
