I know this might be a lot to ask, and i'm sure it exists somewhere, but is there a tool that would tell me if a lot i have is missing any dependencies? i have some brown boxes on the streets, but im not sure which file i have is missing a dependency. Thanks.

EDIT: I have added a pic of the brown boxes i have. they are on the street. if anyone has seen these before, i would appreciate any help.

It looks to me like the brown boxes are from street T21s. Therefore you need to check any mods you have that add Trees, Lights or other props onto your street (and other affected) networks. Check the dependencies for those and install them, or remove the mod and click on the streets to remove the old props.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

I don't think its the streetlights, because both the R$ and R$$ street streetlights are shown normally in the pic. What seems to cause the problem is probably props like planters, postboxes, trashbins, phonebooths, benches etc, or certain trees. This may have been caused by missing dependency packs, esp those by SG, CSX, Jestarr, MJB and D66 - sorry if I have forgotten some. I would suggest installing the first few "megapacks" released by all above members (eg Vol 1 through 3) whether they are listed in your dependencies or not; you are going to need them sooner or later anyway. Tree packs may be needed too.

I would also hover the boxes with the mouse cursor, this may display the prop name, and thus help identify the prop(s).

Also, if the game says Plugin xxxxxxxx is missing, while you open a city file, don't save this city, (or any other city in the region), instead exit without saving and try finding the missing plugins.

If you are getting that message then go here

then

To convert Plugin Pack ID shown on the Load Warning Box in SC4 enter the number into a Decimal Calculator and then convert this number into a hexadecimal number, then search the CATALOG for the HEX number no guarantee the number will be in the CATALOG as I have stopped updating it, but there is a good chance it will be listed.

I've got about eighteen thousand HEX numbers listed with the name of Plugin so if you are missing something quite common it should be in one of the HEX number lists.

I don't know about a program to check, but one thing to remember is that certain prop packs will contain old props in them.  I had an issue not frequently where I would download a prop/dependency and then sometime later would download a prop pack that had they same prop/dependency.  I would then get the brown box.  It was always quite difficult for me to run down, because I would scan my plugin folder and see all the listed props, but still get brown boxes.  Just keep this is mind...
