Simcity 4 Deluxe Build 641 Hang

This may be Linux/wine related but I don't think so.

I was working on one of my Aryan Transpacific cities (Hostigos) creating a seaport with the game in pause.  I had just finished creating an elaborate CDK3 Bulk port with lots of side lots including a ferry depot, cop shop and fire station.  The entry street overlapped the port road, and so I dezoned two tiles on the street and the game hung in the middle of the destruction of these two tiles.  I had to kill the game, and didn't even get a dump.  Worst of all, I was so stupid that I didn't get a save, either.

Has anyone experienced this type of hang in the program?  What were the circumstances?

SimCity 4 deluxe build 141

Ubuntu 15.04 with wine-1.7.44

DirectX rendering with AMD RS780 chip set, Gallium 0.4 driver under X-org.

Memory 3.5 GB, backing store 20 GB

Athlon X2 dual core

Command script:

#!/bin/bash
date
echo "Starting SimCity 4 Deluxe - DirectX rendering"
env WINEPREFIX="/home/john/.wine" \
wine "C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" \
 -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:directx \
 -CPUCount:1 -f &>~/sc4.log
wine --version &>>~/sc4.log
date

Nobody should want to see the 200+ lines of wine log that produce nothing but garbage and no new information.

what pieces were you using? I couldn't google them. I think I have all the possible seaside pieces and don't know what you're talking about.

Pretty much all the CDK3 plops that go with the break bulk port.  Since I lost the image, I can't be very specific but it was a large installation.  However the problem did not occur with the CDK pieces, it happened using the remove zone (v) key on a couple of street tiles.

I am really an ID 10 T error in this regard.  I should have done a save when I finished the port.

Now I get to do this over, which is usually not all bad.  I might even get a better idea or two.

If it just hung once, I wouldn't go overboard trying to diagnose the problem, SC4 can run very reliably but still has the odd hiccup every now and again. Since a lot of the CDK pieces are Transit Enabled for Street, Road and/or Rail are you sure you didn't hover a puzzle piece over a lot because that would do it.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Actually, with a puzzle piece, it would expect a CTD.  No, I am just looking for similar experiences.  If we can diagnose any problem we might be able to deduce a fix.

But anyway, I rebuilt my port (lots of saves) today and while it is not fully developed yet, here it is:

    Hostigos Port

Because the population is low at the moment, I'll be working on this one for a couple of months, on and off, until I get it to be the principle city in Aryan Transpacific.  I am extrapolating what would have happened if the novel had continued to 20th century times.
