4GB of ram can be a bit too few. I have 4GB as well and it takes 15 to 30 minutes to start the game. But if your graphics card and processor are good, you could get it running without too much lagg. I have an i5 myself and once the game is started up, I reach about 20-30 fps. It's good enough to play with.

Processor is too slow, Video is too low, MB is a little old, but adequate. HDD is slow, but adequate,

Maybe if you list your budget, then we can piece together something you need.  Can you build it yourself?  Or should we shop for an OEM system (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.)

You need more than 4gb ram and you should buy a better graphics card, at least a gtx model.

I have:

4 GB ram,

Geforce GTX 960,

i5 750

and i'm not able to play in my city anymore (130k pop).

Maybe it will run better when you won't use quite a lot of mods, but i think it won't run that smooth.

Before I built a desktop, I had a laptop that could run the game with minimal lag.I had an HP Envy 15z, you can find it here.  I am not saying to go out and buy this computer, but its specs will generally give you an idea of what can run the game.

This is what the recommended specs are for Cities: Skylines,

CPU: Intel Core i5-3470, 3.20GHz / AMD FX-6300, 3.5Ghz

RAM: 6 GB

OS: Microsoft Windows 7/8 (64-bit)

Video Card: nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, 2 GB / AMD Radeon HD 7870,

2 GB Free Disk Space: 4 GB

By your original post, you fall short in the processor, a little short in the RAM, and short in the graphics card, as well.

However, in terms of the minimum specs...

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.0GHz / AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+, 3.2GHz

RAM: 4 GB

OS: Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 (64-bit)

Video Card: nVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, 512 MB / ATI Radeon HD 5670, 512 MB

Free Disk Space: 4 GB

So for the minimum specs, let's see how your computer would check out:

GPU: The GTX 260 is actually a better card than the GT 620

CPU: Your CPU still falls a little short in speed

RAM: The PC you selected does have 4 GB, which is minimum for Cities: Skylines, so this would check out.

So, you do need to find a better computer, probably.  My advice is to find one that has more than the recommended specs, or as close to the recommended specs as you can get. If you plan on having large cities, you're definitely going to need a computer that fulfills the recommended specs.

Out of curiosity, you're looking at laptops, right?  Do you absolutely want a laptop?

    Hi rmjohnson144,

Yes, I can assemble pc components.

The budget is: 330 USD max

I know it's hard to find a good pc gaming at this price.. but I just want a good pc to run on medium-high setting Cities Skylines, so I can't spend much..

So please, if you like, you can list some good components to build a PC can boot cities skylines on medium-high. Thanks!!  :)

    Hi Nilo7,

No, I hate play on laptop. :P however, the components are of a desktop computer.

What you can tell about this graphic card?: GTX 650 2 GB GDDR5 Dedicated - is able to run the game (medium-high)?

Oh okay, so you're building a desktop?

From what I've read and seen on websites, the GTX 650 is a better card than the 260, but it's better by less than you'd think, as you can see here.  I guess in that way the 650 would be able to run the game on medium-high settings, but the cities would have to be smaller.

If you are building a desktop, I would recommend the GTX 660 that is in the recommended specs if you can do it.  Reason being, it is about $50 more than the GTX 650 but has way higher performance, as seen here.

$330?! This is going to be a hard task. Fortunately for you, America is not as expensive as Europe.

I would recommend 8GB of ram and at least an i5 processor. I don't know anything about graphic cards, so I can't help you with that, but Nilo7 already did.

You may end up on ebay fora used system at that price.

A GTX 650 is a little low, but you should get all 9-tiles full without many mods installed.

I have a GTX 650 Ti which is about twice as powerful, and I have about 15-tiles full on high settings and it's starting to lag at 1080p resolution.

You missed out on an awesome deal on Newegg last night.  It was a HP Proliant server with a quad core and a graphics card slot (empty, no graphics, since servers don't need one) for $215!  All you would have needed was a graphics card and 8GB ram (Only has 2gb) and an operating system ( Maybe reuse your old windows key?)  Anyway, that ship has sailed and now is $330.

I seen some nice ones on ebay.

This one has AMD quard CPU, 4GB RAM, Win7, but a cheap video card (not gaming card).  If you can get it for under $200(minus $20 for shipping).  Then you could get a GTX 650 Ti or better with the money you save(under $75 on ebay.), or a GTX 660 (under a $100 on ebay.).  I can't see the PSU it comes with as a GTX 660 needs twice the power to run than the GTX 650 Ti)

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-PHENOM-II-955-X4-PROCESSOR-3-2GHz-4GB-DDR3-GAMING-PC-Win-7-ASUS-M4A79XTD-EVO-/221750447467?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a15b4d6b

This one isnn't half bad.  Has 8-core AMD and 4GB RAM, with a GTX-6670.  It's about a GTX 650 if I recall correctly. but $340 free shipping.  You'd have to save for a better card down the road.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gaming-PC-/271843887272?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f4b2888a8

This one could be the one, but at $300 plus $55 shipping.  so $355 if no one else bids, AMD quad core, 6GB RAM, 6870 video (about same as GTX 660).  Also has a 17-inch Monitor, keyboard, and mouse!!!! It also had a new CPU(quad core), GPU(6870), and Power supply(PSU) (no info on PSU)

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gaming-PC-Quad-Core-6gb-RAM-XFX-HD-6870-Monitor-Mouse-Keyboard-/201337290657?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ee0a33fa1

Thanks for the link to the website, was very helpful to compare some video-cards and even cpu's.

$330?! This is going to be a hard task. Fortunately for you, America is not as expensive as Europe.

Hehehe, I know it a hard task, rather, almost impossible.. And are not American, but unfortunately I live in Europe (Italy)  :D

So you'd spend more than $300 for playing Cities Skylines? although I LOVE this game I can't..

rmjohnson144, thanks for the help and links. But I live in Italy, and internetional shipping it's not available

Before giving up a last attempt: I have find a PC for €400 ( $380 USD ) with this specs:

    CPU:

Intel Celeron G1620 2,50 GHz,   Turbo Core Boost: 1050MHz,   55 Watt

Is not very powerful, but it is better than the previous cpu, if not mistaken..

    GPU:

    MSI N750-2GD5/OC - MSI GeForce GTX 750 2GB

Also this seems to be better than the previous gaphic-card..

Compare: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/MSI-GeForce-GTX-750-vs-GeForce-GTX-650( the website not found the graphic-card with 2GB, but only 1GB.. )

    MD:

    ASRock H61M-VG4,  16384 MB,   DDR3-SDRAM

Unfortunately, the motherboard does not seem be good..

    RAM:

    G.Skill 8GB DDR3-1333,   240 Pin,   1333MHz,   1,5 Volt

    Awesome!

    HDD:

    WD WD5000AAKX 500GB,   SATA III 6 Gbit/s,   7200rpm 16 MB

    Mh, good.

    CPU COOLER:

    INTEL Stock Cooler

    PSU:

    ATX  MS-TECH MS-N450-SYS,   450 Watt / 230 Volt 50Hz 5A

    What you think?

I think ( it's not true, I hope only ) of able to start the game on medium-high with anti-aliasing while maintaining those settings even with large cities.

Now I have an iMac 21,5 mid-2011, Bootcamp Partition with Windows 7 64-bit and are able to play with the low-medium settings ( with 1920x1080 screen resolution ) with 3 tiles filled ( a few lag ) with an AMD Radeon 6600M and 6700M Series

Say hello to all, great community!  :golly:

Is there some reason you don't just use the imac?  It seems pretty good.  A quad core and 6750m video.

The one listed is very low powered CPU.  It is a dual core celeron.  The GTX 750 is fair.  Just above minimum iirc.

This game is very CPU intensive.  Quad core will go along ways.  Especially above 9-tiles.

You may do okay with the default 9-tile city.

But since you're in Italy, this may be your best option.  or just use iMac as it will probably be more powerful.

Spending under $500 on a computer just isn't worth it.  You'll end up paying more than you planned anyway when you get faulty used hardware and have to return it.  And you'll need a monitor/mouse/keyboard that are compatible with the computer.  Don't buy anything; save up your money.

Have you tried a refurbished model? I've had a lot of success with refurbished stuff in the past. Still not sure you'd hit those minimum specs for the price point, but might be worth a shot.

Agreed. It just not worth to pay just-a-little-less to suffer.

A hyper threading 3.5GHz i3 + 750 is the most bare minimum I'll ever consider as a gaming computer. Or probably AMD FX6300 + R7 260X if you going the red camp.

That i3 is very likely twice faster than that Celeron...

Unfortunately, the motherboard does not seem be good..

Mobo don't give you performance boost.

The only time we'll need high end mobo is using high end configuration.

Yep, this guy knows what he's talking about.  The AMD FX6300 at $100 is the cheapest processor that's worth anyone's time.  Great value too actually.  Any lower and it's a waste of your money.

    Thanks guys!  :)

So I stay on my iMac with settings set to low-medium.

Is there some reason you don't just use the imac?  It seems pretty good.  A quad core and 6750m video.

I was hopeful to find a pc not much expensive to play with medium-high settings and without lags, the iMac is not able to hold the game with medium-high settings and also presents some lags.
