My Mapping Workshop!

Hi everyone and welcome to my mapping workshop!

Now anyone that frequents the chat here on Simtropolis will probably know that I love to terrafrom and create maps for the games we love (well ok, just SC4 and Cities Skylines) so I've decided to start up a mappiong workshop where I will create hand made Cities Skylines maps and then share them all with you here.

List of maps finished, in progress and queued (with links to the post if finished)

Finished and released

Requests for maps

I'm also happy to take requests, just fill in this form and I'll try and rustle something up for you!

(DISCLAIMER: Although every attempt will be made to make sure I can get these done for you on time sometimes real life can be a pain in the rear and will mean that maps take a while or are post-poned. I will message you personally about this though if a situation does arise.)

(If you wish to contact me quickly or just chat about any requested map I'm normally in the ST chatroom so feel free to pop in and ask me stuff)

Map Request Form

Map name: (If you don't have one I'll name it after your username until you can come up with one or you can just edit it yourself when you get the map).

Map Type: (Boreal, Temperate, Tropical)

Terrain type: (Islands, Mountians, Valley, Plains etc)

Needed Connections: Road is obligatory! (rail, boat, plane)

How many of each connection: (though this may depend on the may type anyway)

Rough % of usuable land: (how much you want to be mountians, water etc)

Needed resources: (Ore, Oil, Forrest, Arable land and some idea of how much)

Other details: (anything else you think would be help me with creating your desired map.)

Release type: Private (for yours and my use only file uploaded and pmed to you then deleted), General (to the STEX and Steam Workshop where everyone can use it) [Please Note: Images of the map will still be shown in this thread no matter which option you choose.]

So that's the form. If it's more information than needed than you have then just answer the ones in bold as there the ones I need to know.

PLEASE NOTE: Although I will try and do maps everyone requests priority will go to those that have filled in at least the bold parts of the above form as this will greatly cut down in the amount of questions I will have to ask you and will help with how accurate your finihsed map is.

Anyway here we have the first map that I'm going to release.

Mountian Coastline Map 001

Release_Image_groundview_for_MCM001.jpg

Release_Image_for_MCM001.jpg

Just a mouantianous coastline map with a lot of trees and rivers. There's all the resources spread out over the map though it may not have the most usualble land available but might provide for some intersting looking cities.

There's 3 road connections with the highway as you can see from the overview and a rail connection that runs for the most part along side the road. Planes pretty much criss cross the map overhead and the ship routes follow the coastline and enter the large bay in the centre of the coastline.

Here's the STEX link: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/30401-mountianous-coastline-map-001/

Here's the Steam Workshop link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=420540952&searchtext=

Please let me know what you think of the maps and feel free to post images of cities made using my maps in this thread.

Also please note that it'd be greatly appreciated (espicially if it's a requested map) if you could just mention where you got the map from if you use it in a CJ or something. Mention is pretty much mandatory and a link to this thread would be appreicated but is in no way required.

Hope you enjoy them!

James

Anarchad I've finished your map. I tried to follow your image as close as possible. The only thing I had to change was adding a small river to a lagoon so that the starting tile had water access as it wouldn't let me make the map otherwise. Hope you like it! (Please note I also haven't used your name so the map is easier for me to catergorise, please feel tfree to rename it yourself though).

The map requested by Anarched that hes happy for me to share with you all.

A mostly flat map with a large amount of arable land, a nice little lagoon and some large oil and ore reserves around the hilly areas!

Wow James, that map looks amazing!

I was wondering if you could make a map for me looking a bit like English hills country, with much place for forest industry and maybe a few small rivers. That would be a nice map for a new project!

Map name: Don't really care. Something that sounds English.

Map Type: The one that looks the most English

    Terrain type: Small hills

Needed Connections: Plane (and road of course

How many of each connection: between 3 and 10 road connections

Rough % of usuable land: between 65 and 90%

Needed resources: very much forest and some arable land

    Other details: See above

    Release type: General

Ultimate727: Yep that sounds good I will try and get that done ASAP as I have some time free now! The road connections can only go up to 4 though but I'll work something out.

Mr_Maison: Yer your right I may have made it a bit wide but as the anarched hasn't mentioned anythign I think I'll leave it as it is for now and just bear that in mind for future maps (if you do read this though anarched and do wan't it changed let me know and I'll be happy to do it for you!).

TitanicBuff: Oke doke, I'll take a look at this after Ultimates one is done. I may have to take some liberties with the roads though as you can't get 2 lane highways in the map editor.

    Just a little update!

Just a small update guys. Sorry I haven't been able to get on with the maps you've all requested but I've been a bit busy with real life lately. I do have some time off tonight and tomorrow though so I plan on making a start on the requests that are outstanding then.

I've also updated my first post so you'll be able to see which maps I've done and am working on or are queued and so one.

    Cheers

Already thanks for making it! I'll give you credit when I use it in my CJ. And about the road connections: actually, 3 is enough.

Another very nice map 89James89, subbed to all these so far and they are among my favs :D

Do you do real world map requests too?

You should consider making a collection from all your maps on steam : ) So people can sub to all at the same time :)

Really like these maps, thanks for sharing.

Are the roads the wrong way round on the English country side map?

I selected left hand drive like I normally do, but the pre-built roads were right hand drive.

If I select right hand drive they are left hand drive like I want, but the rest of the roads I build will be wrong....

    UPDATE NOTE:

Please note I have re-uploaded the English Countryside map having taken in the recommendations from hellodave about the road direction. Sorry for any inconvenience caused guys.

TPB: Thanks and yep I'll try and do any request you want to make. I also took your advice and made a collection for all the maps to download at once. Thanks again for the suggestions!

hellodave: Thanks glad your enjoying them and thanks for pointing out the error. I did indeed over-complicate things for myself and forgot that you can switch it when you choose the map at the beginning. I've fixed and reuploaded it now though!

You mean you have changed left and right? Because I want my cars to drive on the right and not on the left. I'm not going to recreate England, just a bit English style. Or can you just choose in the options on which side you want them to drive?

You can choose as you choose to start a new city. The way I had it set up meant that the highways would always be the wrong way when compared to normal roads no matter which option you choose lol.

Map name: San Cristóbal de Las Casas
    Map Type: Temperate
Terrain type: Large valley surrounded by mountains
    Needed Connections: All
How many of each connection: As many as possible, without looking bad
Rough % of usuable land: doesn't matter, as much as reasonably possible for terrain
Needed resources: Some oil, a fair bit of ore, a lot of fertile land and huge forest.
    Other details: terrain.party files
    Release type: Public

You can probably use the terrain.party files as a starting point : )

There is no need for the highway to be same as in reality, do as you think is best to fit the land.

There are small rivers running through the valley, not visible in google earth image at all, feel free to add a river anywhere you like.

    Hi James.

Did download all four maps too. Chapeau to you for your impressive work! I like them and will have 004 for my next (probably not failed again) project :D
Although my first tryout showed maybe a little fault: the highway entry seems to be a little bit too tight. I couldn't extend all 4 ramps without going diagonal away from the starting point.

This does not change my opinion of your wonderful work! That's some awesome maps there :) but maybe you could check that up?

Followed you on steam workshop for future maps  :thumb:

TPB: Sure I can make the map for you. Got to do Titanicbuff''s requested map first but will add yours to the queue after that.

Carnivorus: Re-uploaded the map with highway stubs for the exits instead. Hope this helps and sorry again for the mess up lol. Roads did not go well in this one!

    Update:

Have uploaded the file again this time with highway stubs for the exit rather than the 4 slip lanes. Should be all good to go now and sorry about the mess with this map!

Only (really minor) advice: next time try to put some more wind turbine spots in your starting square  ;)  maybe on the river also  :D  but that's just my personal feeling

TPB: Your's will be up next!

ultimate727: No worries. Don't want to be releasing sub standard maps now do I (well ok, I don't want to be ignoring maps that I've already released that don't work lol). Hope your enjoying the map anyway!

Puissi: Brilliant will add this to the queue and get round to it as soon as possible.

    RW_map_001_Florence_Canon_CIty_CO_ground

The map requested by Titanicbuff that hes happy for me to share with you all.

It's my take on the Florence area of near Canon City in Colorado. Using Terrain Party files I've tried to recreate the area as best as I can. It includes the area where the aforementioned town is located as well as the Arkansas river winding its way through the valley (this may not be entirely accurate as Terrain Party didn't import the actual course of the river so I had to put it in manually).

As to the roads it has the main Highway Route 50 running through it to the north with the route 115, 67 and 120 also present (though the route 115 starts at the highway as I ran out of connections). I've made these from highway ramps as that was the best way to do a single lane road in the map editor.

As for resources it has a abundance of trees, some oil and ore and a large swathe of arable ground in the valley.

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
