Broken serial number

Has anyone else had a problem getting a valid serial number?

I bought Simcity 4 (mac) tonight, and the serial number on the CD does not work. So, I exchanged the game for another copy. And the serial number in that one doesn't work either!

I have tried uppercase, lowercase, with dashes, without dashes, nothing seems to work.

Aspyr is going to have one irate customer on the phone Monday morning... I was really looking forward to playing this weekend!

Just be sure you're entering it properly, digit by digit, as is exactly ~ they can often be very fussy things. If you have any continuing problems with it, then I suggest you get in contact with Aspyr.

I had the same problem with my serial number. I was afraid it would be a hassle getting a good copy, but I emailed Aspyr and they very nicely sent me a serial number that worked. Hang in there.

I recently bought both games for my Mac, and included in the box for SC4 was a pink slip of paper advising that the serial number on the jewel case was no lnger valid. The pink paper had a new serial number on it, and it worked.

Also make sure you don't confuse 0 (zero) and O (The letter O).

hmmm... I also have a problem with my Serial. Bought my copy of it in Germany and installing the game works, but when i registered the game so i could download stuff off the sc4 page they said that my pw already was in use... didnt bother to do anything with it.. but has it happened to anyone else??

When I did a fresh install of SC4 and then installed RH on top of it I was never asked to enter the RH serial number. Kind of strange.

Read aspyr's website. They shipped mac copies with bad serial numbers. Just email them and they will send you a new one - a pain in the butt, I know - same thing happened to me. The website also mentions that your mac serial number will not work for downloads.

Oh. How common was this serial no. issue, and was it recently fixed in any major way? I've just bought a decent mac, and asked for both games for Christmas (saves me money...), and really don't want to get stuck with a box that's essentially dead.

Is it smarter to get the games before then, or is that my rampant pessimism?

The number on the pink slip in the box worked for me, too. Unfortunately, I'm having a separate problem related to serial numbers.

I want to log on to EA's website to download the bldgprop_vol1.dat file which is needed to use some of the lots here on Simtropolis. However, Mac serial numbers are apparently not accepted by EA's website.

Since bldgprop_vol1.dat is freeware anyway, does anyone know of another place I can acquire it?

I had the same problem trying to install on Christmas day when I got the game. I went to the support tab on the Aspyr site and saw it was an issue they addressed so I just emailed them and got a new number. Wrote it in big blue sharpie on the inside of the cover slip so it will be there.

Since it was a bad run that shipped the one you exchanged to probably came from the same batch.

I tried getting the file from the addresses you provided. They download, but they will not unstuff. Stuffit Expander gives an error message for each one of them.


Other alternatives? Or maybe they don't need unstuffing?

Stuffit 9 should have no problem expanding .rar packages. If you don't have it, you should upgrade. If you do, check your preferences, maybe there is something there.

I had the same problem. I read on the aspyr website that a hole shipping of games had wrong serial code numbers. I mailed them and they gave me a new code that worked, but now i just can't register the game because i receive a message saying that code is already registered.

I just tried with my StuffIt 7.0.3 version and it errored. Then I upgraded for free to StuffIt 10.0 and then downloaded the above files and it worked!! Awesome now I can have a complicated airport among other things.

One last hurdle I want to jump is correcting the night lighting problems and then everything should be good.

My Aspyr SimCity4 Deluxe that I purchased off the Apple Store shelf one week ago does not come with any serial numbers whatsoever. So there is a major lack of concern with regard to us Mac Users for registering, but I think we all knew that anyways. Simtropolis is the place for answers.

Just to follow up this thread. I just got the following email from Aspyr...

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, EA Games does not recognize the Mac serial numbers. We were unable to include www.simcity.eacom support into our game. However, many of our customers have recommended www.simtropolis.com as a free regestration alternative to the EA website. Once again I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for playing SimCity 4, have a nice day.

Yes, it is a shame!
First you buy a game with a wrong serial number (I had the same problem about one year ago, too - Aspyr fixed it after mailing them) and then you do not get any support from the EA Website.

But I also don't know where to download the other files that are provided to Windows users on the EA Website. It would be nice to know someone who owns this game for PC.
I really blame EA for this! As a MAC user you pay the same amount of hardly earned bucks like the PC users (even more, I think ...) and then you get NO support at all from these guys. Shame on them!

so heres my problem.  i got on and registared my sn the first chance i got (first day @ new school).  stupid me put in the wrong email address  (left out the .mail)  :-/

 

i cant re-registar my sn and i cant log in because i havent 'activated' the account. 

 

so theres probably nothing i can do, but if anyone here has any sugestions, i would be totaly greatful.

I have both the mac AND windows SC4 (had a pc that died bought sc4 for it before I got my mac), but my win serial was registered by someone else! Now i cannot even get into the EA site legally

I wish there was another way....
