I was wondering what are some of the most popular zone size for custom content co buildings some tell you in the read me. But some of the cam lots I installed don't have a complete read me, thus never show up and I think its a zone size thing?

If you know what they're called, you could always search for them in the LE to see what their lot size is, but as SimCoug said there could be many other factors contributing to their not growing.

I have completely stopped using custom R bldgs. at the moment.

Whenever I downloaded any growable custom bldg. (whether R or C or even I) it never grew in my cities.

Infact I am very happy with the Maxis bldgs. of higher stages.

The point about custom growables in general is that you need many of them.  You have to have enough so that the randomizer has a chance to pick them.

But even then: most newer residentials and commercials are modded closer to CAM values and seem to get preferred by the randomizer. Some odd lot sizes have difficulties though, or older plugins. And, of course, plugins with CAM stages won't grow without CAM.

One of the biggest mistakes I've made modding was assuming that the buildings I downloaded would have the statistics properly set up to allow them to grow in a natural way. Many of the lots available for download have improper occupancies, growth stages, lot sizes, densities, or what have you which can cause them to grow too prolifically, or prevent them from growing at all.

For every building you download, you should take the time with reader or PIMX to verify that the stats are in line with your play style, be it vanilla or CAM or whatever you like. For a good variety of buildings growing, you want many buildings with similar stats so the randomizing algorithm has many options to choose from when it's picking a building to grow.

Don't be like me where you have 50+ downloaded buildings with wonky stats that you have to slog through to correct!

You do realize, I hope, that this is a leisure time game.  What you propose is too much like the work I retired from over 12 years ago.  If a lot misbehaves, and I notice it, I simply bulldoze the instances and drop the plugin.

Wait, you mean simcity isn't a full time job for you guys? What am I doing wrong then... :D

I agree that it's a lot of work, and sometimes it's just not worth it to perfectly correct every building. Still, if you really like one that's not behaving properly I find it's worth the time to fix it rather than just deleting it.

Simply a matter of perspective.  After a lifetime of computer programming and systems work, I've retired and am no longer interested in anything that even faintly smells of programming.  1962 to 2002 is enough for any one computer geek.
