Download Manager? Really/

Is there a way to download a file directly i.e. the Helicopter Silencer without the "Download manager".

They are notoriously a door to spyware and I will never use one.

After the fact:

I was able to click through the "Ad-Fly" /"Download Manager" screen and get directly to the file..

Still a little surprised it comes up. Download managers are not needed for anything anymore.

Thanks

Oh, download managers are still very much needed. Just not by you. Recommended reading:

The jist is this: Download sites make money by bundling useless, terrible garbage. When the product is free, you're the product.

I'm not sure what's going on with the horrible, horrible Ad-Fly. I thought Simtropolis only forced you into it when you're not logged into your account. Could be that Simtropolis occasionally sends people there anyway, to save on server costs.

Anything from Adfly is an advertisement and not provided/endorsed by Simtropolis. The ads will appear when you download something on the STEX without being logged in to your account. They also appear when you follow text links. Treat them just like ad banners; ignore them as they are not part of the site.

It's a much more intrusive advertising technique, but they provide a lot more money for the site because of that. You're probably going to see it a lot more often around here as server maintenance prices rise and donations have been dropping off.

Yes, the download manager will be an advert provided by AdFly. Like Indiana Joe said, if you're signed into your ST account, you should be able to download files directly.

1. Install free Adblock pluss plugin to your browser.

2. Buy the STEX Collector's Edition DVDs . They havent really been updated since 5 years ago, but that doesn't matter as their poor packaging means they most likely end up in your mailbox, beated up and broken anyway. But, at least you can feel good about having  supported the site, without also supporting dubious money schemes, illegal green card lotteries and 18+ gambling sites as well  :)
