for the tunnels, the easiest way to build them is to use the hole digger tools

for the ground and el highway overpasses, see my sig

Hope this helps...

Dumb question, but I just came back to SC4, and am new to the NAM. How do you make multi highways? or w/e that single highway thing is? lol

that poorman's cloverleaf is actually good if you want to put a toll booth on the freeway inbetween the two intersection freeways to toll only those who switch freeways

How did you get the one way roads to join up with the avenue?

Just a simple click-and-drag. There are no mods required as far as I know. I do use the NAM, but I'm certain you can do this without mods. I also use the no-arrows mod for looks. 3.gif

No, I'm pretty sure that the avenue to one-way roads transitions are a NAM only feature and that you can't do it in an unmodded game. Go here to get the NAM , read well the read-me that comes with the files but if you sill have troubles, look for the NAM thread in the Mods forums.

The avenue Y-interchange is part of the Network Add-on Mod. You just have to click the highway interchange button, then press the tab key a couple of times. It's a pretty cool feature.

Here it is in one of my cities...

Great goodness!  These are some great ones!  Mine isn't as creative, but it took me about 30 minutes to get it just right.  lol

Let's see how useful the Y-interchange is...
    341.jpg

    Top : Y-interchange
    Bottom : False Y interchange.

the bottom one took me one or two minutes (and I'm well-trained), the top one, a few seconds.

this isnt real creative, but ive not been able to recreate it.  Is a result of the NAM or Rush Hour or both i presume.

p.s. this is from a pre rush hour city

ive since erased the city in which i designed this network.  This was before the Y intechange yet the network still proved to be useless for the purpose it was desigend; since one way roads cant connect to cities.  to fix this i weaved the two pairs of one way roads under and over each other to form to avenues, It looked really cool but thats about it.  i ve recreated part of it here:

RoddyC: It's too bad you can't make nice smooth curves with avenues or highways, because many underwater tunnels I've seen loop down into the tunnel. The tunnels in NYC and the Detroit-Windsor tunnel here in Michigan all do this:

    tunnel.gif

    tunnel2.gif

I'm sure one could manage it in SC4 but it could be rather unwieldy. The only way I can think of is by using an elevated highway that drops down to surface before looping underneath and into the tunnel. What do you think?

That would be very hard to do, and as diagonal highways are messed up when they aren't built on flat land, it wouldn't look very nice.... Good idea, though.
