i get this message at the top of the screen below the banner wtf is going on?

I think its pretty obvious, some-one hacked ST to make the administratirs aware of the vulnerability.

Yup... I can unfortunately see it. BTW, it's also at the title bar of your browser. Actually I was making a topic, too, but you were quicker. We're lucky it was done to put some attention to security, and not to harm anything. Otherwise it would be... *gulp* Dirk, admins, whoever! Go quickly and do something! I'm sure no one here wants to loose everything on ST. Well, surely there are some backups, but still. And then a question arises: Who did it and how?!

That it's now gone is not the important bit. What is important is this:

Is it gone because someone has patched whatever hole allowed that to change, or is it gone because someone has just changed the title back (thus leaving the hole still open)?

It was just a message, no other obvious damage has been detected yet.  We have reported the vulnerability to the Forum developers at Idealbb, and they have responded.  We are going to try to figure out how it was done, the hacker left no other messages that we have found.

What is weird is that I got a time out error a few minutes ago also but I wasn't posting..

Regarding the being hacked message, I must have seen the message close to when it was removed, because I only saw it once.

Wow! This is scary! I do feel good about the hacker not harming the place but I feel REALLY bad that he ever managed to hack in his way in. Well lets hope this is just going to do good to the site and be more aware about the security here.

What's really unfortunate though is that they didn't leave any indication of how they did it. Looks like Dirk and friends will have to resort to tracking through all the logs. (You *do* keep logs, right?)

Well, STEX has been down a lot lately. I doubt it's related with the hacking, but you never know... Hopefully not. BTW, I think he was joking about the H key.
