i think these underpasses are a lot better than the ones that you can build with the NAM..... could these be made functional and UDI enabled? i don't know how hard it'd be to create custom SC4PATH files for these lots and integrate them into the NAM, but i think they would be a worthy addition

I'm amazed people are still thinking up new things to ask for!

Would it be possible to split a highway into two directions? In other words, is it possible to split a highway in the same way an avenue can be split into two one-way roads? I've seen that a lot in real life, and it could be especially useful in creating highways from one-way roads running through a gridlike city, or to avoid destroying large buildings / services / utilities when laying highways. Right now I'm thinking of Bayside from Need for Speed Underground 2, where the highway splits near the stadium. 18.gif

Also, the highway would only be one tile wide in each direction and could run above city streets, much like the elevated rail can now. It would be impossible to have exits on the one-tile portions, but I think it would be very effective for running a highway through downtown without destroying anything.

Apologies if someone's suggested this before; I don't feel like reading 13 pages of suggestions.

You should check out Lakeyboy's multihighway guide. It doesn't allow for a split as you describe, but it does allow for one-way highways. Offramps are even possible, though some configurations are disallowed if the other direction of highway is only a few tiles away.

Someone was working on one-way highway puzzle pieces a while back. I liked the idea, as well; what ever happened to that?

Prince of Sims,

CJMarshall has made them compatable with UDI. They are attached to this post: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?mode=viewtopic&topicID=48401&num=30&pageNo=8#364547 . The link in the post is also a valid link, as I just checked it a minute ago.

Swamper that was a great alternative but i think prince of sims has a good idea for a while now i wanted those functional and if NAM could do it it would polish the looks of the game plus add some much needed functionality

My request is for the straight on-slope puzzle pieces to include sidewalks. 19.gif

Tropod, could you design additional extra-smooth ground road/avenue <-> elevated road/avenue transitions, which are not three but six tiles long?

(Just like the NAM ground highway <-> elevated highway transition, but a bit shorter.)

I discovered that very long overpasses aren't as common in my area as earthen ramps. So I started getting rid of all my overpasses and replacing them with earthen ramps and on=slope puzzle pieces. I find they also look much better in my cities than the long overpasses. I can make them as long or as short as I want, connect them to the on=slope pieces and they look great, (except where you want sidewalks to appear on top, then you gotta get creative.)

Joe - Ground Highway El Highway onslope pieces have been attempted, without success. (El Rail GLR also.) I don't know the details of the problem, but search some of the other NAM-related threads and you can find it.

Kevin - That probably means you have a file conflict. Do you have any other network mods? Did you read the NAM install instructions?

There was no confusion; I'm telling you that those two intersections already exist and are included in the most recent NAM.

Not to diminish any of the work other folks are done, but wouldn't it be great if it were possible to make sunken freeways/avenues look like this??

There should be a smaller cloverleaf for avenue-highway and road-highway intersections. Most suburban highways have cloverleaf-style interchanges for even the most insignificant roads (at least the highways in my 'hood do).

And yes I realize one could just turn the avenue to a ground highway to get a cloverleaf, but then it's huge; much too large to be used often on anything but a large map.

Is it possible to make highway acess ramp puzzle pieces?

i have a lot of areas that need special ramps to move around things. I'll edit this post with a concept picture as soon as i can.

Hi!
I haven't followed the NAM development and I don't use the NAM that much because I never build highways.
So I'm sorry if this is old.

Has there been any talk about avenue on slope pieces?

nam2ej.jpg

This is the avenue overpass connected with two road on slope pieces.

It actually works... If you go the right direction....
It would look much better with avenue on slope!

Yeah it would also have less congestion. Go to this thread to see a picture of NAM's avenue on-slope pieces in action. 18.gif

Great! To bad I already have the new NAM...
Nice to see a picture of the avenue on-slope too.
Like eburress asked in that thread, I can't get it to work.

Now I know why I don't like the NAM... Better keep that to myself...

I'll guess I'll just reinstall the NAM again.

Yeah, try reinstalling. After a few tries, I got the on-slope pieces working - unfortunately, I still can't get the avenue turning lanes to work.

Being obnoxious isn't going to help get things done.

Now, considering it's 3:30 AM PST, I don't think anyone who can implement any ideas would be on for at least a few more hours, at least anyone from the US. And then they might work or go to school, or have a life.

I know how it is to be impatient and want an answer right away. Just chill out, pop open a cold one, and relax.... smooth.

Answers:
1. Can't effectivley be done, for the moment if ever. People have tried but you can't build anything over the pieces. The best way to go is with a lot that converts cars and busses to subway, then running subway where you want to go, and using a lot again. Of course if you cross subway lines, things can get messy. There are a few, like the Masic El-to-Subway transition, the NDEX Rail-to-Subway transition  and the in-progress underground highways. Go ahead and do a search.

2. It's a good idea, we should look into it. I've never needed to overpass other puzzle pieces yet, but I've never designed any complex systems.

I would like to request the following el-rail puzzle pieces:

El-rail over avenue and associated intersections
El-rail over one-way road and associated intersections
El-rail over RoadxOneWayRoad

Also, currently el-rail cannot deviate from the road unless the road either terminates, ends at a T-intersection, or has a curve. For this reason, I would also like to request an 45-degree angle el-rail curve over straight road puzzle piece to allow the el-rail to leave the road.
