Yeah, you're probably right - there are so many great ideas within these requests, but no-one who actually creates something. TGCs stack works quite well, but isn't finished at all, and the NAM creators haven't been here for months. Someone (Tropod) created all those diagonal puzzle pieces and send a new NAM file to some guy here at ST, but otherwise we're completely clueless about the fate of the NAM. Add-ons like the GLR mod must be included in the main file because of the internal file structure, or they would have to be updated everytime when a new NAM version is published. It's really great to see all those suggestions, but unless at least some of the folks actually takes the challenge and try to create all those nifty things, I don't see a future in this project...

i don't know if this really applies but i wish that in general it was more possible to make the networks go anywhere.  an example is under highway interchanges, in the real world you can make roads, streets and other highways go under, and at the base of bridges, if you can make streets right next to the water that go under the bridge base.

I think it would be great to have custom highway connection pieces like large curves to connect two perpendicular pieces of the same highway insted of having the cheap (and ugly) turns from Maxis.

I would like to request elevated rails over avenues, one way roads, highways, etc... with stations at the intersection point of the two networks- like you would find in brooklyn or queens.

avenues without medians.

2-6 lane one way roads- like in manhattan.

thank you!

How about split highways?  I know that you can do that now, but I would like to be able to without laying the el-hwy, laying 2 ground hwys, then deleting.  Also, we need a way to get from normal hwy to split without using one way roads...

I would like to request that one of the team update the Region of NAM City Journal with some of the new stuff/the GLR modd...
I would, but all my cities suck and I don't use the NAM very creatively at all. 46.gif
I sy this because the Journal is what finally convinced me to install the NAM in the first place, as it is a much better advetisement than the dev. threads; as, interesting as they are, they do not convey any sense of how thorough the NAM is.
In the meanwhile, can I just say that you certainly have my vote for gratest SimCity Modd of all time and rank fairly high on my list of greatest game mods as well. 44.gif

I will update the Region Of NAM thread as soon as I get use to using the GLR a little more, and thanx for the compliments!

Probably not a NAM possibility, but maybe SC5-the ability to widen a road to an avenue without having to destroy every single building on the one side of the street! Instead, the city could buy or use eminent domain to just take some of the buildings land without actually bulldozing the entire thing!! It would add to the cost (like in real life) but not destroy half your city! I hate when I have to replace a major road with an avenue and my population drops 5000 because I had to bulldoze several high-rise apartments to make the avenue.

I don't know if this has been requested before, but would it be possible to do a hill side rail-el rail transition. Here's an example:

_Ground Rail__________El-rail______________
                       \
 Embankment     \

This could also be used in the GLR mod, any ideas as to this would be possible? Surely if you used Tropod's transition and mixed it with those straight overpasses you might get somewhere?

Well after trailing through all of the pages in the topic NOT ONE person is requesting a rounderbout junction. Might be a UK thing but personally I don't see the point of 12 lane motorways and double decker highways to be perfectly honest.

The guy from Leeds who suggested having dedicated guided bus lines isn't kidding about the commute times. THEY WILL HALF it actually got MORE people to use busses. THAT means that if done correctly, there will be a massive car reduction. Think about it.

I do URGE YOU to take a look at these scans and consider their full potential. The two lower pics are of the same junction and the red dots on the map shows where traffic lights are placed.

thanks

Diagonal puzzle pieces would be good. I think turns are in the works. If you've made over ground puzzle pieces, would it be possible to build underground puzzle pieces, but while stuff can still be built on top?

I know the person two posts above me said this but will there be diagonal puzzle pieces AND intersecting pieces for the elevated roads and rails?

Hope I have created an usable prop...

I extracted an elevated (normal) railway puzzle piece from the NAM and removed parts of it to have only the rail itself and tried to create an Exemplar file for it. This prop may be usable to create train stations for NAM puzzle pieces. I'm using a Mac and so, Maxis tools aren't usable for me.

Can someone please try to use this prop to create train station LOTs using this prop? At first, I think a 1x6-template will be usable.

If someone finished a lot with train station properties and included this prop on each rail tile of it, I will add the needed path information to make it usable for the automata.
Then, we can distribute this as a template for elevated commute train stations.

Yup. I'm doing 90-degree turns, 3-way intersections, and 4-way intersections between road and avenue puzzle pieces. Intersections involving one-way puzzle pieces are too mind-boggling tor me.

I know you guys have your hand full of projects but this is an idea I have, plopable bridges with different type that don't look cheesy like the game built one, one that allows road under ground highway, ave over road with ramps, road over road with ramps, bridge over canal peices, stream and lake peices...I know tooo tooo much... I have a few Japanese bridges like this but they are only partly transit enabled....

thanks for the great things you guys have give to our games!!!44.gif

Ok I'm back with another idea.. the rail lines in SCRH have 2 lines on them, however in many places there is only 1 line with sidings, can a single rail line system be built? even if plopable? with better looking gravel and dirt beds and wooded ties?

thanks

EL-rail and EL-highway over parking lot; plaza; bus stop; walkway

Elevated ways are used mostly where land is scarce. It's annoying to see that in simcity nothing is happening underneath.
I know that technically it should be a very simple mod... but i have no idea how to build it.

thx

you don't need the NAM to do this, it can already be done with the bat, LE and a little creative modding, pretty much anything we currently use can be combined into a network/transit enabled lot

hope this helps...

I am surprised this hasn't been requested: A four lane road. This would be avenue without a median allowing for turns anywhere along its path (no u-turns at intersections though), it should have maybe as much as 1/3 lower capacity as a turning vehicle blocks the lane. It should to be able to be converted to an Avenue if need be.

In Central New York there are very few true avenues, most are just four lane roads without medians. It is my experience that this is also the case in most older cities i.e. Northeast and Midwest.

37.gif Heres one I didnt see (unless I missed it or it was posted after the last update). What about the roadtop transit mod that is part of darkmatters transit supermod? Is it something that will likely make it in or no? In any event, the dat file does seem to work with NAM, so either way is fine with me.

First off, Thanks to all who have worked on the NAM and everything that comes with the most recent version(06-08-05). SC4 is a totally different game now that you all have made these wonderful creations for it. Thank You.44.gif

My request depends on something already requested. I saw someone asked for one-way highway puzzle pieces. And I couldn't remember, did that request include road/one-way/ave overpasses for the one-way highway? If not, then I would request those also.

Now, my original request!!

I would like to see single-sided one-way on/off ramps that go to the inside of a multi highway.
onramprequest5yu.jpg

I'm not sure if this has ever been done in real life or anything, but I would love to see it in SC4.

My idea is to have a separated (multi) highway with any on/off ramps placed in the gap between highway sections and utilize the new puzzle pieces like the intersection ones above. I think the separated highways are great looking and would love to do more with them.

I hope this is possible and thank all who reply!!10.gif

I'm sorry to double post, but I was playing around and got a better picture/description of what I requested.

Here,
onramprequest24nc.jpg

Please note: The only way I got it to look like that was to create several multi-highways and make on/off ramps on the outside lanes (notice the little red X's). So this highway is not functional, everything is backwards.

As I said before, someone else requested the puzzle pieces for one-way highway's so I would use the correct piece there.

Also, someone requested an on/off ramp ( page 1 ) that would not have the little extra stubby bit on the end of the one-way road, rather a smooth transition. That would fit perfect in this set-up.

Again, sorry to double post. Looking forward to any responses!! Thanks!!!
