I don't suppose anyone's interested in working on a GLR texture mod that makes the rural GLR look a little bit more like actual rail? In a lot of places, light rail runs on disused heavy rail tracks outside of urban city centers, and it would be cool to be able to recreate that look in the game.

Of course!  There is a mod out there for that.

First, you'll need to download the original GLR textures:

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=18243

And if that doesn't work to your liking, you can also download this mod:

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=18636

When you get away from developed areas, no sidewalk texture will appear around the network.

Hope this helps!

Best,

First let me say I'm thrilled with all the great additions to the January 2009 NAM release, it's a fantastic update and I thank everyone involved for all their hard work on it.

While there are a lot of suggestions out there for new networks, intersections, etc., there's at least one element I was surprised still wasn't included in the latest NAM. Specifically, with all the new smooth/long curve puzzle pieces for railroads, avenues, and highways, where's the smooth curve piece for ELEVATED highways? This seems to be one big missing piece in the collection.

The next thing I've run into relates to the smooth curve railroad pieces. I've found it rather difficult to create a simple "T" junction with the included pieces. It's certainly doable, but it's just too big, as you can see in this screenshot.

sc4rails.jpg

What's needed is a symmetrical "Y" piece, where the rails split apart equally, such as in this roughly Photoshopped image below, and as can be seen in this Google aerial.

sc4rails2.jpg

Along with that, the same piece could be made with the addition that the straight rail continues through, so you can use four of them to create a "grand junction," so a train approaching the junction can go either left, straight, or right.

I would like to see a few things-

diagonal bridge building

1 way street with 3 or 4 lanes

avenue with 3 lanes on each side and no divider

elevated rail on avenue (it is a more logical choice than on road)

and I like what you guys did to change the commutes- such as walking an extra block to get to a bus stop instead of driving: I think an improvement on this would be if a form of transport is over-used (like in some cases, 150% or higher to capacity) hey find an alternate route or form of transportation to avoid congesting it

and lastly, rail and highway tunnels that can go underwater- I think it would have to be a minimum length on both sides of the land so that the rate of ascent and descent is realistic

there's my suggestions, thanks

I'd love to see some train (or GLR) stations that are accessible from a road overpass, like the Queens Park Underground station, here:

queenspark.jpg

I made a very simple mockup in sketchup to show the concept and see if it's even doable.

trenchstation.jpg

trenchstation2.jpg

trenchstation3.jpg

It would obviously have to be overhanging, etc, to allow the platforms to go all the way underneath the road above. I know there is a small version similar to this out there already, but ones like I posted above are pretty common on London, and I think would be a very cool addition to the game.

NAM does not make stations or other transit enabled lots. You will never see this incorporated into the NAM. (Puzzle pieces only, no plops.)

Until a station like that is made, all you need to do to establish a working connection like you outlined is to place a station right beside a raised road overpass. I will work.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Oops, my mistake. Is there another official request thread for lots around? I've done the station next to the overpass thing and it works great, I just love the way stations like that look. 4.gif

Hmm... I would try the official BAT Request thread or perhaps somewhere else.  Its a really cool idea, that's for sure!  29.gif

Have you downloaded the Rural Highway (RHW) mod?  I'm sure you can use it to recreate something similar to what you are requesting.

Originally posted by: Simaddict1000 i think it would be cool too see a double decker highway so you can double the capacity in the same spacequote>

Numerous attempts at making a double decker highway have been made, and none have made very much headway.  Its also important to note that if a double decker highway were to be made, it would have the same capacity as a normal ground/elevated highway because both road decks are on the same tile.  Sorry, but its a limitation of the game.

I would really like to see a rural highway overpass for a roundabout like the elevated highway one. I would also like to see a rural highway / normal ground highway underpasses for roundabouts. I think these would be a good idea to reduce congestion of roundabouts that conect to rural highway.

Where i live (Limassol,Cyprus) we have overpasses for all roundabouts and one underpass.

Hope you think this is a good idea

Tristan

*Edit: why stop at highways why not have avenue over and underpasses for roundabouts also

I put this in the RHW thread, but this might be a better spot for it, dunno.

Elevated RHW-2 (with On-Slope pieces). You have them for RHW-4 and MIS, why not RHW-2?

I would love ERHW-2, but IMO the stubs off the onslopes and transitions should be 'T', same goes for ERHW-4 and EMIS34.gif

General NAM Request:

Thanks to all of you for the previous work done, what you have all provided is amazing. Unfortunately i have the UK version of the game (myself living in the UK) so have the left hand drive of the game. So I have an issue that really gets my goat! Traffic lights! i have euro road textures, all NAM componants that i need etc etc but there is no way to change the side of the road that traffic lights are on... this got me thinking.

What i would like to request is differnt traffic light junction options as individual plugins (like you have done with bridges) so for example, an american option (yellow hanging over the road) UK option (On poles at each opposite corner of the junction and on islands or middle section of avenues... - http://qs.aqvs.co.uk/theopenroad/images/web%20site%20yellow%20box.JPG&gt2.gif and asian over the road style with signs on etc, like Japan Flat style (Could probably be used in american style too)

I think it would be nice to actually have an option for what style junction you want and from what country. This should also apply with Street intersections. change the stop sign to 'GIVE WAY' sign on the left hand side.

It just seems that us left hand drive people have been forgotten, so would love to see this option for everybody to enjoy. More realistic junctions for both left/right hand drive people.

Would it be possible to create inbound freight? This would emulate the need to import food and goods and would be built upon a per capita basis (and perhaps weatlh, as the weathy demand more goods). This could be somewhat offset by local farms and factories.

Trucks, rail, and ships could all be used.

Retep Molinari: Well, the way intercity traffic runs is controlled by the EXE. It is hardcoded that frieght traffic cannot actually travel between cities; it can only exit a city. However, I do reccomend searching the STEX for a frieght truck traffic generator that will make it look like there is freight traffic coming in, but this is only an eyecandy automata effect like any other traffic generator.

How about Elevated Rail in Avenue like glr. I'm kind of sick of placing a glr to elevated rail puzzle peice next to my avenues and then getting it to go in the avenues. Thats why I what elevated rail in avenues and a transition peice for the two.

hello all, just started playing a month or so ago. i noticed that i could not find any over tunnel peices so i decided to try and make some as a good way to start making things. i'm going to try and make the rest of the transit, but don't know if i should post them on stex or not. but here pics of what i got so far.     newcityjul1001239247377.jpg
newcityaug1800123924559.jpg
i don't know who to ask if i should post these as lots or if NAM wants to makes these into puzzle peices would be cool. But if someone from NAM pm me about about this that would be great.

                                                                                                    thank you
