Well, I'll say, this is just downright despicable. Some things I can understand for performance reasons (they explicitly stated that was the problem with the multiple floors), but EA has really messed up this time. I won't be getting this until at least 64 of those 89 items have been put back in. Not that I'd be able to even run it on my 2YO PC, it's way too new for the game.

Scratch that, I'm not getting it until they put in Magic or Space Travel. Or Ponies. Or all four.

I thought The Sims was one of the flagship casual PC titles that gamers regularly hate?

I'm honestly surprised anyone on here actually has played The Sims.

With that said, I don't plan to touch it (I grew bored of The Sims after a few hours of the first game).

I like the Sims 2 most of all but I like the style and feel of The Sims and I enjoy some features that are exclusive to The Sims 3. However, I agree with the OP, I will not buy anything related to The Sims 4 unless all the features common to The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 have been added to the Sims 4 and only at a reduced price.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I have absolutely no plans for buying The Sims 4, and I'm perfectly fine sticking with The Sims 3. As soon as TS4 was announced I was sure they'd find some way to screw it up.

I played sims 1 and liked it.

I played sims 2 and liked it even more.

I play sims 3 and, while I like it aswell and own all expansions and a truckload of cc, it feels somewhat not too good to me as it lacks real gameplay improvement over 2.

I watched videos of sims 4 and I must say that, again, there's too little - if any - improvements compared to it's previous title.

Now, fairness where fairness is due, the sims is a game that gets pushed out in it's most basic and "playable" form and the real content get's cashcowed in expansions, so there's plenty of room to improve on gameplay also.

But history shows that this most likely won't happen and the expensions really add nothing but content and interactions with it.

So, no, not gonna get it. at least not from the start. maybe somewhere down the road when it's a budget title.

Even more so after reading the list of what they canned. An insult to anyone who ever played the game series.

About as much a drawback as happened with sim city since 4. EA really doesn't learn from anything

Yeah but this has stuff missing that is just a requirement even for the basic game. I mean seriously, this game is less of a complete game than the effing first Sims game without expansions. No pools? Seriously?

More importantly, this is a 32 bit game? What? Who, with an OS that is newer than say 3 years still has 32 bit? I thought that 64 was the new standard already at this point. Honestly at this point this game sounds more like a FTP browser game than a game you pay for in a store.

With all honesty, I can't wait for this game to come out :) the game just looks so appealing and has reeled me in. I don't plan to buy it directly at launch so I can wait for the price to go down on it, but the anticipation is building.

Just an uninteresting person that plays video games for your falsified amusement.

I've been playing The Sims since the original (The Sims is probably my favourite game series) and I have to say while I am excited for release of TS4, part of me is disappointed and not sold on it. I won't be buying it at launch, a first for me since maybe the original (which I got shortly after release.) I'm just playing the wait-and-see to see feedback from all sorts of players and their thoughts.

To me, parts of it look good, other parts not so much. So I'm taking the wait-and-see approach this go around.

a sidethought on that 32bit thing:

it allows for a wider band of customers.

further, I guess the wide majority of sims players are casuals and girls not really into that pc thing, most likely still sitting on an older machine of pre-64bit or when 64bit was too expensive for the normal user.

I mean, even today many pcs in the budget sector are 32bit and unless you really have a need for 64bit - which is unlikely as a casual (gamer) and office-like pc user - you don't need no 64bit at all.

of course, there's also folks like myself that have a pretty good gaming rig with all the gimmicks of todays gaming that could do magic in the sims if the game was 64bit but I honestly think that's the minor part of this game's community.

what they should've done is - I know this from many productive releases - give the game a 32bit and a 64bit executable and corresponding architecture but I guess this would have been too much work put into a self-supporting cash cow... after all, we're still talking about ea games, it's a matter of fact that they think from their account to your wallet and not an inch further :D

Honestly if I look for pc's or laptops I have trouble finding machines that do not have at least 4gigs of ram. And they would all be 64 bit OS as well.

You must have been in the Apple Store.

You can easily buy numerous PCs from Walmart (or Meijer, Staples, Best Buy, Target, Office Max, etc...) that have 32-bit processors and run 32-bit Windows.

Those are the PCs that are $300 or less for the  part, but they do have at least 4GBs of RAM for the most part.

The American and UK markets love cheap PCs.

I should also note Walmart is the biggest seller of PCs and the majority of non Apple PC market runs 32-bit OSes.

Well, Im Dutch. If I go for a 300 or less laptop I pretty much end up with one of those google laptops or a netbook or some crappy netbook-tablet hybrid.

Also, I honestly think it hurts the quality of the game if you want to make it run on budget hardware. I'm sorry but if you can only afford one of the cheapest laptops in existence, then maybe you shouldn't be spending money on games :/

That explains a lot.

The U.S. single handly is the biggest market by far for PC gaming and video gaming (China and India are extremely restricted and censored).

Well Im not from China or India, or anywhere else in Asia for that matter....

I know that... :(

The point is the U.S. market dictates how many industries advance.

here in germany, it really depends on where you look for your pc. dedicated (online) stores rarely sell 32bit systems but the electronic chains or department stores sell many 32bit systems for a fair price. more than enough for your casual pc needs and regular office work, which I count many of the core sims players to (for a fact, I know a lot of people, mainly girls, that are not at all into gaming but play the sims, in person and from sims forums)

further, even tho 64bit systems go as far back as the 1970s super computers (IBM Stretch), it's still a "rather" new thing in public/gaming use. if it'll ever happen, I guess we look at another couple years until 64bit is as established a standard that you won't find 32bit systems anymore.

this is also evident in the list of x64 games. actually, most games supporting 64bit come with x86 and x64 executables and only very few games are 64bit only. most games, even todays aaa titles often come in 32bit only.

of course it's a drawback not to design games for state of the art hardware, but with all love in ea-bashing, I must say that you need to take a look at your audience when designing the "show", no need to give a rock concert when the audience wants jazz :D

and then again, you want to earn money (and ea wants to earn money really really bad) so the wider the range of customers, the better.

Oh dear, I shall stick to The Sims 3 and the Late Night. Seems like the new sims is very disappointing.

I have The Sims 4, and I think its fine. Some things are 'missing' but some things are improved a lot! There are no toddlers...I never liked them anyway, they used to put me off having children in game lol. Pools are coming in a free update. CAS is a LOT BETTER. Sims actually look good now. The Sims 3 sims all looked pie faced with no features. Now they look nice.

The social aspect of the game is also a lot better. Sims can talk whilst doing other things and can listen to music whilst playing chess etc.

The neighbourhoods are NOT like The Sims 1. They are still kinda open, you can walk to the houses on the same road as your house, but you just have to load to go somewhere far. But the loading is very very quick.

The only 2 gripes I have are the UI, which is awful! Some of the buttons are on the top of the screen for some reason, its badly laid out. Also I miss the design tool from The Sims 3, that was really good.

I play The Sims 4 on my 6 year old laptop...and using the 'laptop mode' graphics setting the game runs perfect! It turns shadows off but lighting, reflections and textures are all still good.

14+ Million sims! Things are even nicer in Sunset County!

Sunset County - Check it out!

I think I'll be getting this game soon but I want to wait for more updates first. I think the EPs will tell how good this game is going to be. :)
