A project for a school subject I have called "Aesthetic communication". My teacher wanted me to create a piece in some artistic "-ism", and I chose modernism. The whole picture ended up looking pretty wonky after scanning, though. :/

Historic South Main Street n downtown Memphis. All of the buildings in this picture are on the National Register of Historic Places (basically means they aren't supposed to be torn down).

The picture this was based on was sourced from my art teacher. I believe he said it was taken on one of his trips to Europe, possibly Scotland.

More of downtown Memphis. In the background you can see the tallest building in the city, which is a little bit over 400 ft tall.

My 1998 4Runner's 3.4 liter V6, drawn on black paper (you shade the light areas instead of the dark areas). This was my last art piece for the 2015-2016 school year.

This is a drawing of a small street in Shinjuku. It won first in the art section of the Japanese division of the University of Memphis World Language Fair. I don't have any better image (this one was taken at the University)  and I gave the original piece away to my Japanese teacher because he was quitting. Once school's back in I'll ask my teacher if he has a better image and then I'll repost it.

It's actually worth noting that this piece wasn't finished in time for the competition (which means it's unfinished in this photo). The final version, which was completed a few days later in time for the AP Test, has the bricks drawn on the buildings as well as Japan's trademark "power lines blotting out the sky."

I finally finished a practice drawing from an image editing program, and I liked it to the point that it became a profile picture

Today I bring you something that's been a long time in the making - a street scene from Shinjuku! Last year I focused (with one exception) on scenes from Memphis, but this year I'm going to do scenes from Japanese cities. The picture quality is pretty bad but it'll get scanned later so at that point I'll replace the image. It's on 9"x12" paper.

Most of the signs/advertisements are real, and most of the one's that aren't still have realistic things written on them. There are a handful that have gibberish on them though... I got tired of trying to come up with things.

Some more art works in my little Tokyo series. The main difference between this stuff and the Memphis stuff I posted in 2015 and 2016 is I'm placing more emphasis on the people. They factor into my concentration subject matter (exploring some of the paradoxes of urban society) to make it a more compelling concentration versus "hey I drew some neat buildings."

Both of these took an extremely long time to make, even though they are quite small (first one is 8"x15" and the second one is 9x12"). The signage is the same as the last post - mostly real or at least realistic, with some nonsense mixed in at whatever point I got sick of trying to write Japanese on 5mm wide signs. One may notice I got a tad lazy on the second one with the space beneath the viaduct... I didn't feel like messing with the street scene behind it so I filled the space with trucks and buses instead. Japan is full of both so I have an excuse.

Here's something I did a few months ago that turned out better than I expected:

This is Finn (well, some of him), the main character in a graphic novel I'm writing. I have some more drawings (or paintings; whatever you want to call them) in the works that I may post here, so expect to see more of him. It's an adventure story set in a fictional world where Finn (and friends, probably) set out to uncover a lost, highly advanced civilisation. It'll more-or-less be a situation where there's a new theory as to the origins of society and intelligent life and this ancient race holds the answer, but there's a group who's interests are more in line with the status-quo trying to get there first. Maybe they want the race's technology for nefarious purposes as well. I'm not that far into it yet, as you can probably tell. Anyway, better stop before this becomes an essay.

By the way, I don't consider myself a "furry," I just like anthropomorphic animals from an artistic standpoint. Not that I have anything against furries or expected to get hate from this particular forum (the BeamNG forums had a bit of a fiasco recently), I just thought I'd mention it since it's an often misconstrued subject.

Exactly one month later, here's another drawing. Hopefully I successfully captured the mood I was going for! This is more in-line with what the novel will probably look like, and I would love to hear any criticisms you may have.

EDIT: Yikes, the whites of his eyes are almost black. Wonder how that happened...

EDIT 2: Oh I see, they were technically transparent so when I painted in the grey background on a lower layer, it showed through. It's fixed now, along with a few other details.
