Don't take this the wrong way, Terminator, but since you're 14 years-old and just getting into punk in 2005, you definitely qualify as a poser.

Not that getting into punk at any age is a bad thing.

I entered the Louisville hardcore scene in 1994 (when I was 15), back when amazing local bands like Endpoint, Falling Forward and Guilt were still around. Unfortunately I missed out on great national bands like Gorilla Biscuits, Judge, Turning Point, Chain Of Strength, DRI, Embrace, and Grey Matter, all of which had already broken up. Too bad.

Luckily I still got to see and enjoy Earth Crisis, Strife, (good) Integrity, (good) Avail, (good) Snapcase, By The Grace Of God and so many others.

I don't know where you live in New York, but if you're in a city like Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse or NYC, there's probably local hardcore/punk shows going on right under your nose. Those old bands you listed are a great starting point, but I'd seek out some local hardcore bands and really get into the punk scene.

That's just the two cents of a bitter old scenester. If you want some good music recommendations, PM me and I'll send some your way.

well actually there are alot of Underground New Jersey bands i like, since im so close to Jersey, and i listen to them on myspace anyways.

    some good NJ bands:
    ...But Not Forgotten-
this is a cool hardcore band, they are from Jersey City, and have a Female singer(vanessa diaz). unlike some girl bands i have heard, ...BNF actually pulls it off, Vanessa Diaz is a really good singer, she doesent sound poppy, and she doesent scream innadable nonscense like Arch Enemy.

    Loss Of Breath-
this is a real hardcore band, theya are from the Middelsex county area, they have a very New England style, but they really rock, there like a New Jersey version of Killswitch engage.

    Useless-
    from Clementon,NJ
think of Pre-1996 Green Day, Choking Victim and Iron Maiden all put in a blender, youd come out with Useless's sound.

and BTW i live 10 mins. north of Midtown in Westchester County, so i do go down to St. Marks place alot, wich is NYC's rock capitol(in my opinion). i am planning on going to see Leftover Crack next time they do a show. there currently doing stuff in Cali, theyll probably come back in january.

Yep, you were.  Green Day were overrated back in the '90s, and it's just become worse post-American Idiot.

Wire and the Clash are the only punk bands that matter.

Purists call Wire post-punk, but the only real difference between punk and post-punk is that punk was a political movement and post-punk was a musical movement.  Wire didn't have any anarchistic political message; they just wanted to make good music.

Oh... and I believe it's spelled poseur.  Not poser.

if it's rock, and it's good, i'll listen to it.

i hate the rap/hip-hop culture, and country i dont like either. Some electronic music is ok, like Jungle and Trance.

Currently listening to: Cradle of Filth-"Heaven Torn Asunder"

Yes yes.. they "sold out"... but they still make good music and i still love them.

in my opinion, cradle of filh is a band i find abrasive and annoying, its like theyre trying to go out of there way to say "were goth, were vampires, we rock you suck" they reminds me of those goth kids on South Park. there like slipknot, all about image, not music.

i like bands like Old School and Progressive metal because most bands in those genres make music to make music.

thats also why i like Anarcho and Crust music, its outside the commericialized hypocracy of the mainstream.

cradle is not goth, and they have never called themselves goth, and they will never be what real goth is. they are a mixture, but mostly black metal, and black metal bands often have the same image (black leather everything, tight, (most of the time with spikes in their legs and arms)).

i dont know, but i find their music creative (of course.. the older the CD is, the more i like it).

and no, they are not like slipknot. they are compleeeeeeeetely different.

just a question, why do you hate mainstream? i know a lot of bands start sucking when they enter mainstream, but there's a lot of good ones out there (i still think Mudvayne is awesome, better than their second album, and they are more mainstream than ever). I just want to know your reason, because i hate the "omg im so cool because i listen to bands that no one has heard of and i hate mainstream" kids.

hmmm.....Black Metal.....always sounds so cartoonish to me.....few bands can pull it off....

I hate Cradle...even tho they look  goth....and seem vampire like...I have never ever called them goth....they are simply Black Melo Death.....

Now if you like Black Metal....i guess Noway is where it all began....but like i said...I really don't like Black Metal...

but for me...all my favorite bands that are Black Metal come from Finland.....

Kalmah and their brand of Black Metal...more often called "SwampMetal" is what i like....first they were Ancestor and played together for like 10 years....then they decided to take it to another level....they buried Ancestor and became Kalmah...they make an album atleast once a year it seems....

    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=92038392

this myspace has all of their Swamplord songs....

"Swampsong" and the album that was before it "They will return" were very good albums...

    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=70136708

Now this is off the newest album "The Black Waltz"

    http://www.myspace.com/kalmah0001

again....its not full on Black Metal, but its good compared to alot of Black metal/Melodic Death Metal...

    hmmm....and....

Swampmetal is a new one to me. CoF isn't goth. Seen 'em, black metal, dark metal, dark-nu-metal, maybe (I'm running out of in vogue categorizations), but I didn't get goth from them live or on albums.

    thank you 4.gif

for me Goth is Bauhaus, Siouxsie, London After Midnight (the music, not their image), The Cure, etc...

NOT Cradle of Filth, NOT Marilyn Manson (like every other 15 year old believes) and NOT Evanscence (once again, like every other 15 year old believes).

Absolutely, Grrgkud! Just because one dresses the part, that doesn't make it real. If Wayne Newton painted his face white, put on black lipstick and nail polish, dyed his hair black after growing it to his waist, and put a few coffins onstage, but did his usual repertoire, would his Saturday night show at the casino in Vegas be a GOTH performance? I think not! As the old saying goes, if you take a turd and cover it in chocolate, is it still a turd?

Absolutely, Barbarossa! Couple that with the fact that many excellent bands never make the mainstream because of sleazy management. Managers and producers ripping the talent off using the money to line their pockets instead of promoting the band.

Also, punk and metal have never really made the mainstream because the "powers that be" don't really WANT the masses to hear the message. This is where mainstream gets "political" and why some bands and genres will just never be accepted. There's always gonna be an audience, but mainstream radio and record companies want people happily bopping along with Britany, not absorbing the lyrics of, say the Sex Pistols, Cradle of Filth or Gangsta Rap. That's one reason why these bands are often on "sub-labels" or independent labels. There's money there, that the labels are happy to take, but it's music that you're just not gonna hear on top 40 radio, no matter how many albums they sell. And if it DOES make it to the radio, it's edited and censored so badly, the whole context of the song is lost.

    yep...isn't that a fact nowdays....

plus the thing you said about Political power and such....I remember when Bob Dole was running for Office and he kept bad mouthing Cannibal Corpse and such...why did he do it....because of the message of Cannibal Corpse(which is violent) or because it got him more airtime on TV....
