Visual glitch in SC4-Mac, please help!

Hello everyone. I've had this visual glitch with Simcity 4 Rush Hour on Mac since updating to Mountain Lion (or Lion, can't remember)... Now I have Mavericks (10.9) and it's still there. It's really annoying and happens randomly when zooming in/out.

Any ideas of how to fix it?

Thanks!

Are you telling me that there's something wrong with water front condos??? :P

That's actually a pretty messed up problem. The game is confusing the texture IDs of the coastal cliff images with the IDs of some of the buildings. I don't know how that could possibly happen. You can try reinstalling. If it's for sure something that the os is causing that's a pretty big deal imo and the game might not be stable. :(

Haha... it actually can happen at any zoom level on any texture - sometimes it replaces flat land with buildings or car textures, sometimes it replaces grass, or any other surface, it's very random. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my plugins folder? I already tried reinstalling but it didn't help. Has anyone seen the same before? Jasoncw, do you have SC4 for Mac? what's your system and configuration?

    Thanks!

    I don't have a mac.

It's possible that if you have some kind of ground texture modd, that the modd is conflicting with maxis images, and that it doesn't so much have to do with the mac version of sc4 somehow messing up the IDs. You can try the game with an empty plugins folder (rename the plugins folder to something like Pluginssadfasdfasdf and make a new empty folder named Plugins).

I have had this same problem since 10.6.8 on my Mac.  I could never figure out a solution.

Same... but it got worse. Well at least now I know that it isn't my sc4 installation and it's more of a system/gpu glitch.

This is a known issue with the Universal Binary when running on an Intel Mac.  The endiness of the data changes between the PPC and Intel chips but the UB didn't change this data, causing the wrong sprites to be loaded.  Other visual glitches do occur due to Graphics Cards changes.  Hopefully the new AppStore/Steam Mac version will solve this by being Intel native, and compiled as an Intel application instead of a Universal/FAT application.
