Is it worth upgrading from the original SC4?

I only recently started playing sc4 (mainly becuase my previous pc had 256 mb of ram, now I have 2 gigs 10.gif) but I was wondering what the main differences are between the original SC4 and rush hour. I'm not too interested in driving around town. Just making an awe inspiring concrete jungle.

Hello Llamadog7!

First of all, Welcome to Simtropolis! Second, Playing SC4 without RH (It's called the Plain Vanilla Version, BTW)? That's kinda boring in my personal opinion.

Installing Rush Hour is well worth the money, for starters, without it, you could not use some of the awesome BATs and MODs that are available to download on the STEX.

If you don't want to use the U-Drive It Feature, that's fine, personally, I don't use it myself, but like you said, if you want to build an awe inspiring concrete jungle you definetly need RH, it gives you a ton more options and tools on transportation and if you install the NAM (Network Add-on Mod) you'll have even more options like Roundabouts, GLR (Ground Light Rail) more Highway Intersections, etc.

Another thing that the original SC4 and RH differs is that RH will give you avenues and a ground Highway.

Once you install RH and start downloading some of the great BATs out here, you'll find that some of them are part of a chain that will give you rewards (You'll have to read the description on those BATs to find out what you need to trigger a reward).

Basically, if you install the NAM, some of the BSC Reward chains and of course RH, it's like playing Sim City 4.5, After all this, I don't think I could handle playing SC4 Vanilla anymore.

Do yourself a favor and get RH you won't regret it.

Hmm... Right now you could choose a easy city for beginneers, a hard city for advanced people or those who are confident. More new building style. And the good thing is since most lots and bats on stex support rush hour and if you loves to download them and put them in play, you will need rush hour.
Thats the many of the best reasons I can think49.gif

Has definately been worth my money.
I happilly recommend the Rh or Deluxe(Thats what I gots 48.gif) version. the others already mentioned some of the extras like the bats, lots and the NAM that make a huge difference and really add more personalization and a better connection with the game and your abilities in the game to really customise your cities/region to your hearts content.
Hell, its only 10-20 extra bucks anyway 16.gif

Get it. It's worth it. If you're having trouble, 'Hard' in RH/Deluxe is the same as Simcity vanilla.

If you like what you see on Simtropolis, you will definately need Rush Hour. This WHOLE SITE revolves around and works off of Rush Hour. The sad thing is that Rush Hour is what Sim City 4 should have been upon first release, but EA held back to be able to sell two software packages and squeeze more money out of the franchise. A sad coorporate move IMHO.

But whatever the case, Hush Hour is not simply icing on the SC4 cake. It is cake left out of a hollow icing shell! (I love being metaphorical. 9.gif)

Without Rush Hour the game isn't worth playing.  Get it, you won't regret it especially if you want to download the best stuff from here.10.gif

It is a must if you want to uee most of the bats and stuff on the STEX and with the addition of avenues and monorail etc. I think e-rail too (cant rememeber cause Iv'e only played the orig for week before rush hour came out). It makes the game so much better and like some said above - I'd nvr play without RH installed

....right on Voar Tok! And who doesn't like driving a tank through the City park and shooting missiles at the wild geese?!

I keep attempting to shoot my Sitizens, but they run away.

BAT alone is a great reason why to get it, you can change the game from one end to the other with RH or Deluxe so go for it, you won't regret it 20.gif

Yeah, taking pot-shots at stuff is so much fun.  I was once having a bad day, so I drove a tank to the top of a mountain and rained ordinance down on my sims to see what I could hit.11.gif  Another fun thing to try is to drive along and try to hit your mission targets from a block away.  Either that or play Tank Joy Ride and create a new path out of town, right through some abandoned buildings.

For the record, I'd never do anything to hurt my sims.12.gif

PS - If you believe that, send me a PM.  I've got a great deal for you involving real estate on the moon!6.gif

Simplest question ever asked on this site. Yes, yes, yes. SC4's not worth having without Rush Hour.

Simcity 4 is great but Rush Hour is like god giving free passes to heaven. Though it can be annoying cause you get addicted to the driving missions38.gif
