BAT crashing , texture error

I'm modelling+texturing in google sketchup, and exporting as .3ds

however upon import in gmax BAT, it encounters an error and must close gmax

 

I've narrowed down the problem to the textures; when I remove all textures it imports just fine into gmax.

 

any idea what I can do to fix this problem? the textures aren't too large or complicated, and when I export I see them in windows explorer next to my model.

I was with this problem too, then I start to use 3ds Max, and never happened again.

unfortunately I'm really bad at modelling and texturing in 3dsmax itself, and it wouldn't be worth re-creating what i've done in sketchup already

maybe you could just import and retexture the model for this time... and if you learn something in the process you might find it easier and easier
