Radius Doubler and Industry Doubler - Yay or Nay

Hi,

This may sound silly but I used Radius Doubler and Industry Doubler  and made only 1 city but except increasing radius and industrial jobs per industrial building it didn't did much...

The main issue of dead stuck population growth didn't got solved.

So shall I use them or not...

Yes instead of 2-3 school in the beginning only 1 school can cover up the entire city radii but as population grows you do need more schools.

So  shall I use them or not... since I don't know that besides that radii effect what other internal game algo/logic twisting effect it has.

Thank you

Note:

My main issue right now in my city or also for me to make a SC4 city or to play this game is the dead stuck population growth.

Planning lot of things, reading lots of lots of guides and tuts, proving 100% edu, medi, police, fire, water coverage, zero garbage, very very low air and water pollution but still stuck at a population of 4500 is shameful.

Atleast a population of 20,000 should be or must be achieved easily

I would have to say nay to the radius and industry doublers.  I do not think they are needed to achieve higher populations.  To me, it sounds more like you have demand cap issue.  There are basically two things that raise demand caps: 1) building parks, plazas and rewards and 2) neighbor connections.

If you have already built the parks and rewards then my suggestion is to develop a lot of city tiles in your region.  Connect them all together with rail and several road connections between each border and see if that allows growth.  Make sure you add in plenty of mass transit (mainly bus early on) to help the sims move about.

Nay!  In some 10+ years of play, I haven't found such things useful.

Regional play is the only way to grow.

Yay to industry QUADRUPLER.

When you build small citys you certainly need no industry doubler or quadrupler. But when you build big citys you save a lot of space with it. Look at the picture "industry city": The city occupies roughly 2/3 of a medium size tile. Would i build such a city without industry quadrupler it would occupy nearly 3 medium size tiles. And in comparison to the big commercial buildings the factorys have unreasonable low job numbers. But it has nothing to do with population growth. I don't use radius doubler.

To your low population:

You have a so tiny number of residents that region play is not necessary. Before my first city in a new region reaches 50 000 to 100 000 residents i build no neighboring citys (only electricity generation with cheap coal and garbage disposal is from the beginning in a neighboring city) . I attached a picture from a city with 300 000 residents and only one neighboring city, the aforementioned industry city. With only 4500 residents the transport routes are not important, i think congestion is not possible with such few residents.

But when i look at the pictures of your city in the other thread i see no parks or plazas. They are good to rise demand caps. But i don't know if you can reach demand caps with only 4500 residents because i build parks and plazas from the beginning of a new city. You wrote that you have demand for R$ (and you cannot expect much more in the beginning of the first city of a new region). I see only lowrises in your pictures. Have you zoned everything in low density? So no bigger buildings with more residents can grow within the city when you not zone this areas in medium or high density. Certainly you can zone new areas.

Everyone to their own taste.  I always build neighbour connections at the first opportunity, and I usually start the neighbouring city quite soon with some jobs and residentials right along the connection.  But then, once I get a new village into the black, I quickly move on to the next tile, and the next, and the next.  Building a big city comes later, gradually, naturally.

Yes Nonny Moose, everyone to his own taste. :)

My only point is, that neighbour connections are not necessary for population growth so early in the game. But i have at least one neighbour connection from day one, too: To the disposal city.

I've been using industry quadrupler for very long, in big cities i feel the industrial part would be very unrealistic without it.

And as noony Moose said, I make a lot of interconnected small cities in the region before starting to grow them. I find it more "natural" to have things growing as a region

I use both. Otherwise, I find the number of civics buildings that are necessary for full coverage a bit high, which looks over the top to my eyes. Be aware of the fact that especially the radius doubler makes your game easier, as it reduces costs. Then again, most people use plugins for their civics that, often enough, far outstrip these effects (regarding both, coverage and cost savings). Ideally, I would use some intermediate radius with cost compensation. If you decide to mod any of these civics yourself, be cautious to do that correctly and not to ruin your game with  severe bugs.

Industry in SC4 is unrealistically tiny, which may be the reason why Maxis chose those low employment numbers. It's more of an intermediate phase in this game, later to be replaced by commercial sectors. Anyway, here like always, you can use plugins.

I don't use multipliers but on the other hand I have an own-code power plant that covers an entire large city with a very large capacity, and a matching water plant.  Between them these lots also take out pretty much all pollution except road pollution which is reduced by one of the ordinances.  (Clean air act, I think).

There are more ways to handle obnoxious items in the game than just changing a few radii.

    Verdict :)

Yay to Industry doubler, Nay to Radii Doubler :)

There are some cases when an industry multiplier is not welcome, it's when you separate your cities by task.

If you use an industry doubler (or quadrupler) and make a "clean" city and a "dirty" one where all of your industry will be, the multiplier will also decrease the need for industry... and then make it a bit more difficult to find the point where both cities can work together (that's the reason I ditched the CAM. I do it all the time and I found it difficult to make twin cities work with the CAM installed)

    Ouch... point to be noted...

If its true what you're saying then a prob for me.

Yes I have made 2 cities... one city with no industry at the moment...

and another city will only dirty industtry, power plants and garbage dumps... This industry city has no residential or commercial areas.

The main intention of using industry doubler is to make industries take less space for jobs provided....because I want a lot of place to plant trees.

It's not impossible to make it work with a multiplier, just a bit more difficult to balance. I think with a doubler it would be ok, with a quadrupler (which I use) you have to struggle a bit to have it working... I think the CAM multiplies industry jobs by 6 and I just gave up after destroying and rebuilding my industrial city several times  :kitty:

The region I play right now works this way too. my industrial city has no res and no commercial. In my Main city there are just a few High tech industries.

OK... I will then stick with the doubler then.

BTW, is the quadrupler deleted from whole internet? I didn't found it anywhere...

But I won't use it also as it falls under cheat category... The doubler is perfect.

BTW... quadrupling is cheating but doubling  isn't ??  8)

Yup in the doubler the power & water req. also doubles which seems realistic.

pollution in doubler also doubles which is also realistic which misses in the quadrupler.

Gentlebeings, there are no cheats in SC4.  There is no competition so how can one cheat?

cheating with self... Also if one wants to start a CJ and if comments must keep on coming then a bit of cheat is necessary.

Ah, but that's a matter of conscience.  There is no point in beating yourself up over the application of knowledge.
