How to install an existing Modd Squad patch:

1. extract patches to desktop or anywhere convenient.
2. extract and run RPatch.exe
3. click patch "open" and browse to where you stored your extracted patches and select a patch
4. click "select folder" and navigate to "c:\program files\maxis\simcity 4\ and click ok
5. check on backup file (uncheck if you had patched before) and click apply (takes a few econds)
6. repeat steps 3-5 for any other patch.

How to Make Your Own Patches

Alright, first you will need ilive's reader program, which you can download here

http://www.pucechan.com/~sc4dev/

Click on downloads and choose ilive's reader program.

Next, you will need to unzip the file you downloaded.  If you have Windows XP you can open it like a folder, on any other version of Windows you will need a decompression utility such as WinZip.  You can get WinZip at

http://www.winzip.com

Once you have unzipped the file, you can now begin.  Load up ilive's reader, and click on the open button on the toolbar.  Navigate to

C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\

This path will be different if you didn't install on your C drive or in the default folder.  Now select

SimCity_1.dat

The program will begin to load the file. Don't be alarmed if it appears to stop responding, as the program is loading a 60 odd MegaByte file into RAM.  If you have less than 128MB of RAM, I don't recommend using this program.

WARNING:  Windows 9x Kernel Users(Windows 95, 98, 98SE, AND ME), your entire computer will appear to lock up.  If your computer freezes, I suggest you make the move to XP.  You will get many new features, and you can buy the upgrade for 99.99.  In addition, XP is built on the NT kernel, and offers more stability than any Windows 9x platform.

click Analyser on the tool bar and click on search (which will populate the window with values)

find the exemplar that you wish to create a patch for. eg. scroll down to 23045 Traffic Simulator

The right panel will show all the values and names associated with this exemplar.

Find the values that you wish to change. In this example, there are a lot of unknown values, so you have to use the name value column to find the address that you are modifying. Slightly expand the column by dragging the "name value" header to be a bit bigger. look for 0x491332E7 (this is the walking speed).

now before you edit the values, click on record at the top right corner.

double click the 0x491332E7 entry and it will expand into a edit window.

now click once to highlight the first value you wish to edit. Click once more and it should contain a blinking cursor for editing. Change the walking speed from 3.5 (or 10 if you already applied the patch) to some other value. This is a floating point value so you can have decimals.

once done with the editing, click apply.

you should be back at the analyser window. click x to get out of the analyser window.

click on FILE and select "save recorded exemplars"

save it to a name of your choosing.

exit reader.exe without saving (since you have a recorded version now).

start up rpatch.exe and select your newly created patch... and apply the patch.

start up the reader.exe to see if the values that you just applied are changed.

I'd just like 2 say that compressed folders is also a feature of ME the same as XP so u won't need winzip if u've got ME, but I'm sure most of u who hav ME already kno that.

That was a copy of a post by me, and I wrote that. I'm not affiliated with MS.

A quick bump to keep this fresh. And to remind people to get the latest version of the Reader from the mods section.

    Sorry, unrealised,

You will probably have to tell us if any of the plug-in works? Try the Dual Ninja Gaiden Towers...

If it does, we can convert some of the older patches into plug-ins.... 9.gif

Even if it would be available, I strongly suggest not to use it - the method of patching the SC4 files is extremely outdated (just look when these postings were made). If you want to change something in the game, you should create a mod, that means a copy of the related file(s), placed as a DAT in the plugins folder.

What is it you want to do ?

The patch was an early modding, which is obsolete now.

You can use iLive's Reader instead. That can be found in the section: Modds & Download. You find a link to it, at the top of the pages.

Ok, Its just that the list of "Top 50 Mods" on the front page has a few in it where you need this Rpatch program.

This file is no longer available, and should not be used to patch the game. You should actually create a .dat file and copy the exemplars you want to edit to that blank .dat file.

Yes you can. I'm not to sure about what you mean but select a file in your patch. At the edge of the box it'll say Remove Selected File. Press that and voila, no more file...

Please Note: You cannot patch files from 2 .dats. Only one to create a .dat from to .dats is to copy the files.
