Extrapolation Menu Q?

What exactly is the extrapolation menu used for? Or how to use it? Why is it even there?

It doesn't ever seem to do anything during my game play. The graph lines just sit at the bottom of the graph chart.

Couldn't find an answers with Google searching.

i believe this one maxis' twist instead of 'now loading' it will say something silly like reticulating splines.

if the graphs in game don't work make sure that your simulator is running and there is relevant activity

our world is a simcity

I was speaking of the in-game extrapolation graph in the mayor menu.

Been playing my region now for over 250 years across 16 medium tiles at almost 200k population. Sure the simulation is running but the extrapolation graph never shows any movement, or at least not any time I've checked it. The lines are always flat as I stated before.

The loading phrases are just a bunch of randomness as far as I can tell. Pretty sure I've seen a mod that will either change or add more nonsense to the loading phrases as well.

Picture? I'm not sure what you mean by "extrapolation" graph. As far as I can tell, all of my graphs work fine (though I use a garbage incinerator with zero funding, so it always says I have no garbage). None of them happen to have the label of "extrapolation", though.

Here it is.   And wouldn't ya know it, the graph actually has some movement upon loading the city. But I almost guarantee, as you can see, the graph quickly sinks back to the bottom of the graph and that's where it's always at when I check this graph.

The graph is there so I'm assuming there's a reason for it and a way to use it, though I haven't figured out just what it's trying to tell me.

Are you using a mod that adds any graphs? 'Cause I sure can't find anything like that and my graphs menu is sorted a lot differently, too.

Isn't the expanded graph an option in the NAM custom install? If not, then yes, I must have some kind of mod that adds more menu options.

I understand what you mean though, cause when I went to grab the image to post here, it wasn't available in my Vanilla Sandbox city, but when I switched to my active plugins folder, it was there. So it's definitely part of a mod.

Trying to track it down. Will update when/if I find it was a specific mod. If it was part of another mod, it might be a bit difficult to track down.

Here it is. It does state in the description that some of the graphs will useful and some not so much.

    From the readme

-*NEW* Graph Button: Extrapolation [RCI]. This displays the amount of Extrapolation for RCI from a city. Some users may [or may not] find this item of some use/interest. According to the games files [& "my" understanding of it], this is the amount of RCI Extrapolated out [or another way to put it, swapped out] from a city. Generally, amounts shown in this graph are more noticeable in bigger cities, and as such nothing may actually show up or appear in smaller cities [it really depends on how your region of cities is structured]. Please, do not ask me for any more info regarding this particular item, as this is as simple as I can explain it. I had decided to add this item for those that may find it of some interest. I am hoping that others in the SC community may be able to come to some concrete conclusions about the data that this Graph displays.

I'm guessing that for your city sizes the graph won't work (I recall around 35 000 Sims or so, right?) It's the amount of RCI demand that the simulator assumes from regional connections, population, and traffic (from what I can tell).

That's got to be it. My largest city right now is only 33k, which would explain why it doesn't really do anything.

But now I'm wondering, has anyone ever found this particular graph useful, and how or why? I would assume it wouldn't be there if it didn't help in some way, form, or fashion.

Is that the graph for the "10% regional extrapolated demand" ? Although I don't really understand where is the 10% is taken from.

Taken from the Wiki at the link posted ^

    Regional Extrapolated Demand

All census data is stored with each city's savegame file. Now, while playing a city, inactive connected cities can satisfy this city's demand with their unused zone capacities, but only to the tune of 10% of their existing populations and only if the demand cannot be satisfied in the city being played itself.

At the end of each month, demand not satisfied by building construction in the city being played is tossed to other cities in the Region. When returning to another city in the region, in which such extrapolation has occurred, the presumed growth will sprout.

Always when entering a city, give it some time to grow (10%) before leaving it.
Otherwise the extrapolated growth from the Region will be lost forever.

As far as other cities are concerned, when exiting a city that you haven't given enough time to grow, the city played has lost its extrapolated growth and has actually shrunk in size, leading to recession and abandonment elsewhere.

So this kind of puts a bit of perspective on the graph. But the question I have now is, is it 10% of all the available space including developed & undeveloped zones, or just the undeveloped zones.

If it's just the undeveloped zones, then that would explain why my graph rarely shows any information due to not leaving a city with undeveloped zones.

I have a rather slow play style and don't mass zone past demands. It's rare there would be any undeveloped zones prior to exiting a city.

It would also make sense why it had some movement in the pic I posted due to currently creating a highway system through the region causing me to destroy and rezone. This would be an instant that I would exit a city before zones re-develop.

So it really comes down to that I don't really benefiting from this particular graph.

    Thanks for the links NCGAIO.
