So I want to make a desert city, and I want to know if it is possible to get a dessert terrain..Also,if there is a mod that puts snow on the ground, that would be great too.

There turned out to be a lot more desert terrain mods than I thought.  Here's what I could find:

CPT Canyonlands Terrain Mod

CPT Grand Canyon Terrain Mod

Several of them include snow at high elevations.  It should say in the descriptions.

Don't forget the dependencies when you pick one.

I want to have a desert terrain with snow at high elevations that is campatible with sim Mars. Mars is itself a desert. I want to recreate the snow capped terrain of Olympus Mons.

SimCity 4 actually comes with snow as an Easter egg.  You can activate it with the cheat code (CTRL + X) snow.

The game automatically activates this cheat on Christmas day as well.  If you set your computer's date to December 25, you can see for yourself.

The snow does not show up in region view, and it is removed after saving the city.

If the main intention is to create a one-off snowy themed CJ entry, then snow appearing region view is not important.

It's possible to make a region very snowy by reducing the snow height of the terrain texture packs independently.

I like the snow command that is built in.  You don't always want seasonal snow when developing the city.

You might also get some desert by fiddling with the water level settings (using lower numbers) in region.ini prior to rendering. I lowered mine before rendering the SF Bay Area and it looks less lush than other regions. I got some tan hills that even remind me of growing up there.

What part of Cali did you grow up at?  I was born and raised in Santa Barbara.

I spent ages 4 to 37 on the south SF Peninsula (except 5 years at UC Berkeley), hence my interest in rendering the SF Bay Area.

SF Bay area is a Mediterranean Climate, so the default decor should be about right with fewer palm trees and more evergreens and deciduous species.

Don't forget your scarfs.

Swear SF is the scarf capital of the US. It's like 9 out of 10 people were wearing scarfs. Though it's understandable, there always seems to a chill in the air even when it's relatively warm.

I'll stick with southern Cali personally. I prefer wearing shorts in the middle of winter. Lived in SD for 10 yrs before coming back to the north east (New England) area. What a mistake that was. If it wasn't for family, I'd still be in SD. Not a fan of winter.
