3ds max "c-dilla" virus?

Hi fellow colleagues. I know some of you use 3ds max to make buildings. I researched this program and I found an article which I am concerned.             http://blenderartist...hp/t-16067.html

In this article there appears that a virus/malicious program is packaged with 3ds max. It's called c-dilla. Full text from this site

I tried installing 3ds Max v.4 and it completely screwed me. Turns out max uses a "liscense manager" called Cd-dilla. THis software is viral in nature and can really mess with your machine.

What it did: (thank god I took snapshots and backed up my registry first)

1 , accesed and changed one of the virus definitions in Norton AV, symantec
considers it a virus

2, created and / or changed over 200 registry entries. No, that not a typo, over 200. Including registry entrys for the Norton antivirus active monitor, creating god only knows what kind of vulnerabilities on my system. No fully legitimate software has any buisiness messing with my antiviral.

3, does NOT uninstall, while I've supposedly uninstalled it with the uninstall program, and windows add/remove software, and a couple third party uninstallers, it still lurking in my system, hiding.

4, messed up my CD burning, sometimes causing crashes and ALWAYS slowing it down substantially.

5, it also seems to have tried to bore a hole in my firewall.

6. Deleted all system resore points prior to install, so I can't restore the
system to a good configuration. If I hadn't backed up my registry prior
to the install I'd be absolutely screwed.

C-dilla is spyware, it can collect info and report it tihrough the internet.
No privacy statement is provided, I have been unable to find out what info it reports, who it reports to, or what is done with that info. All inquiries to Discrete (makers of studiomax) and Macromedia (makers of C= Dilla have been ignored.

I'm going to do a full lowlevel format and reinstall, using only backup discs burned BEFORE the max install, as c-dilla appears to be hiding itself inside other files, just like a virus.

C-dilla is the single most malicious piece of software I've come across, and I go through freeware and shareware like junky goes through dope. It's worse that any virus I've ever picked up off the net, and I visit some pretty shady sites

I don't know if max 5 uses C-dilla also, but I strongly recommend against using ANY software that includes c-dilla.

I you,ve found your system is slower after installing Max, or any other problems (like cd burning, etc, it's probably C-dilla.

Please pass this warnig on to any other forums, I can't because I'm afraid to go online untill I can wipe my drive. I'm using my brothers machine to warn you folks here, so please, help spread the word and boycott any software using c-dilla. Then sofware makers will be forced to find a less harmfull way to protect their products.

Thank you for helpng spread the word, and I'd like to hear if anyone else has had problems after installing Studio Max

:< :< :< :< :< :< :< :< :< :< ( how mad I am )

Do any of you friends have problems with this? Which versions of 3ds max is "c-dilla" packaged with? Where can I get clean version without this malicious program? Urgent advice needed! I do not want to download any bad programs.

Don't be concerned since I haven't run into any issues regarding c-dilla. Just make sure that you download 3dsMax from the official website and register properly through the actual program. Other than that, you should be fine. Preferably, you should download 3dsMax 2012 as no on has had any problems with it and that it runs fine with BAT4Max. Downloading 2013 will cause your renders to have a cyan coloration :/

Yeah, and that post is from 2003, ten years old and related to a software long discontinued! The most recent post related to any problems with C-Dilla was from 2006. I don't even know if C-Dilla is still being used by Autodesk!

So on the one hand we have a ten-years-old rant that's related to a long-discontinued piece of software and has been posted by some guy nobody knows, and on the other hand we are right in a community where several people we know have been using current versions of Max for years without ever reporting any similar problems. I think the answer whom to trust more is pretty obvious.

The current version of 3ds max does not contain c-dilla? Please clarify. :)

Just exactly how many versions are there?

Lol, seriously, think about it. No one on simtropolis has had any "c-dilla related problems" from what T-wrecks has already said is from a guy who ranted on 10 years ago. There aren't any problems with the 3dsMax '11/'12/'13. And I don't think anyone can fully specify which versions had c-dilla. Based on that article, it looks like it was long gone before anyone on simtropolis started using 3dsMax for BATing. And by now, it would've been superseded by their new versions. If you do get c-dilla, then It's probably because you got it from an unregistered website that happens to be from a sketchy part of the interwebs :P Don't overthink it. Just download it from Autodesk, because like I said, no one has had any problems and it's been use my many of ST's best BATers. And neither have I, and I only got it lately and even had to replace my 2013 edition b/c of a cyan render bug...nothing close to being related to c-dilla. :)

I've started modeling in 3dsMax 7 and since I purchased all versions, 8, 9, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Max has never caused any problems on my PCs. :noway:

Please, stop feeding the paranoia. ;)

There have been over 20 versions of 3ds max.

It should be quite obvious that if you're downloading the program from the official site that it does not have viruses....

And if you actually read the thread that you linked to, or googled cd-dilla, it's explained that cd-dilla is just an anti-piracy program that people thought was too aggressive.

And wouldn't you have noticed that people on Simtropolis (not counting any other users) have not had any virus problems related to max since a large number of people started using it in 2006?

Obviously, you need to sign in or in your case, register on the Autodesk website. You'll need an account before you can download any of their products. Lol, that's just basic knowledge, read what's being shown to you ;) (I'm sure no one needed to point this out to you)
