    I would love to use overhead wires for this mod, but we have not gotten around to that yet. We are still waiting to see if T7T can get this thing to work on the Ant.
    I don't think the island platforms can be easily done, but I think it can be done by someone like T7T or Daeley.
    I would like to get some of this on elevated tracks but I can't seem to grasp the concepts of pathing and making puzzle pieces.
    Can't wait to see some of your work on the stations and trains. Oh, and I don't think having two styles of trams on a line is a problem. I have already done it.

    It would not be hard to put the poles for electrical wiring on straight sections of track.
    (See https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=54570 )  I would be willing to do it, if someone provided a suitable model.  If one wants the wires to show, the model would have to be converted to S3D (as shown in redlotus' Interchange Tutorial Thread) so it conforms to the ground.
     
    Adding the props for all turns and intersections is too big a job for me to do by myself.

    BETA v0.01 released

    *******WARNING*******: This version is beta. As such certain bugs may/will still exist. Backing up your cities before using this mod is highly advised. This mod has not been tested on long term bases and as such it may crash the game.
     
    The current version does *NOT* use the ANT, instead the trams will use the normal train tracks. To prevent normal trains from using tram tracks, the train automata have been disabled. This means you should not see any more normal trains, though train traffic will work normally. If you do still see trains, please report.
    This version includes:
     
    - 4 train station color-coded
    - 4 basic tram models color coded
    - 4 transit enabled lots to make the tracks look better (1x1,1x3,1x5,1x7)
    - green and blue trams have been UDI-enabled (no mission exist yet though) do try it out, I have worked quite a bit on the interface...
     
    (note for Mike: I have changed several occupantgroups and tram exemplars for UDI and to resolve conflicts with Swamper's use of occupant groups... you might want to download this file too)
     
     
    EDIT: filesize is 580Kb  - university server has a very good broadband connection, so download times should be low.

    When the download becomes available...it says it can't find the page right now...I'll definitely be trying this one out. As well as everyone else, I've been patiently watching this develop in the threads. Good work everyone!

    I had the same trouble too trying to download from the link in Daeley's signature. Go back to the original Daeley's post dated 10/12/2004 5:32:59 PM where it says.......

    Wow! This is finally out! This is great. Trams & Trains at the same time is just around the corner I hope! It will be great for my region of Melbourne. (I decided to stop until this project got released)
    No advice I can give you lot but I would like to see different Melbourne Tram Designs instead of colour coded. Yeti's pictures show some of the designs. If not enough, do a google pic search.

    WOW!

    This is a great idea. I just want to say that you guys are doing an amazing job with this. I can't imagine the amount of hours being put in. As soon as it's possible to use both trains and trams at the same time, I'll be using this for sure (just don't want to lose my trains 2.gif )

    Thanks Mike, Daeley, T7T and everyone else for all their time and effort getting this in the game. I've downloaded it but won't have a chance to try it out for another week. How ironic, I waited ages for this, diligently checked the thread everyday and now that a release has been made, I'm going away on holiday for a week.....lol

    I love the beta versions of your light rail system. For now I have noticed that it is only for looks, this is not a functional version, but it is nice anyway. I have made a whole system, and then SimCity crashed.

    I am looking forward to the day when it becomes official. I am still creating a suburb that will still have the light rail.

    i brought this up before, i just wanted to again.. about trains appearing on the tramline tracks

    surely this wont happen once complete? (with train automata enabled) because trains are randomnly spawned from TRAIN stations, right? so it would only be someones sillyness of placing a TRAIN station on the TRAM line, that would ever make it a problem, surely??

    anyways, it will be better to use the ANT so that its on its own network with its own texture design for the rails and ground, and able to make those 90degree bends 9.gif the more number of realistic forms of transport there are in SC, the better

    Daeley...So, here's my feedback, so far. I placed the trams in one of my cities and played for about 15 minutes. Everything seems to be fine, except the tram sometimes takes a little longer to move around the curves. I really, really like how the trams will connect to each other as they move into the platform area.19.gif After that, I went to one of my other cities to layout where I would want the tram lines to go. Unpaused the game and it crashed back to the desktop. I've never had the game crash before. I haven't had any more time to play with it.

    Error identified: as some users report, v0.01 will crash the game after about 15 minutes or so... I am investigating this issue and have several possible causes for it... until v0.01B comes out, I'd suggest moving the mod out of the plugins directory...
     
    and no, trains are not spawned at train stations, trains appear automatically where there is train traffic. As currently tram are set as train traffic, normal trains need to be disabled to prevent them from appearing on tram tracks.

    from my experience it seems that the game will crash when you leave a city and start up in a different one. Not sure why. My only guess at a culprit would be the LUA file in the automata controller. The other files are just transit enabled lots and reskinned automata. I believe the pre-beta version was doing the same thing so I don't think the new menu items are the problem.

    By the way Daeley, nice job with all that menu work44.gif. Now if T7T can get this to work with the ANT then we will be cooking.

    and as a side note, I have one of the modern trams running on the beta version very well. When I have the rest of them working and they have working night lights I will post them and then start working on double-sided trams.

    new in v0.01B: (increased stability)
    - fixed an issue that would cause the game to crash due to normal trains being defined incorrectly
    note that while normal trains will not appear with this version, custom plugin trains (such as the ones made by Oppie or BigRedFish) can still appear under certain cicumstances.
    Also note that if you allow fright traffic on your tram lines, the tram lines will be used by freight trains.
     
    known issues in v0.01B
    - the transit enabled lots do not appear to allow traffic through in certain circumstances... this will be investigated further. It may not get fixed as the final idea is to go without them.
