I would like to see a mod that makes the height map for new regions more exaggerated. In other words white being the highest point possible instead of 1/3 as it is now. If this makes sense to anyone.

Ash's eighth request - to have electric lines above the rail road, so that it looks like electric trains run on it.

I'm not sure if this can be reliably done. The rail network is textured, so you can't just add a S3D to accomplish this. As Skippy said, you could create a 32m line as a prop and place it on a TE lot, but then you'd have to have the right number of tiles along a stretch, since you can't place two TE lots next to each other.

quote>

Does that really matter? If someone really wants to use electricified rail lines, he/she propably knows how to use lots meant to it. And BTW, 48m long props (or whatsoever) would be better... I already suggested that:
I think someone could Make a prop, which is 1x3 tiles in size. Center tile would have the poles, and then power lines going to each direction. Then make a 1x1 lot, where you put the prop. (Prop can be larger than lot.) Then make that lot transit enabled for railroads, and tada! It's ready. That even allows you to make some lines electricified and some others not. 3.gif I think that's a good idea. Now someone has just to make it... 2.gif

Here's a mod request I like to call: PROJECT DARK NIGHT

Has anyone else noticed that as night falls on simnation there seems to be an abundance of light emanating from.... well hold on a sec-- it's night time! things shouldn't be lit up. But alas, in the game, at night time most buildings are bathed in an all too bright blue glow. Granted, this allows you to see your city at night, but lets face it, in reality, a city at night is really quite dark. Take this pic as an example:

aerial_nightskyline2.jpg

All that stands out is the lighting in the buildings-- there is no unreal aura bathing the skyline. And everything else is black (including the water). This is especially true of suburbs by night; the most prominent lighting is the grid of streetlights visible from the air.

For those of us familiar with the BAT, you will know that there are two main renders; a day and a night render. The night render, however, is just a shell that is applied over a modified day texture, however. Somehow, the simulator alters the textures of the day renders of buildings to emulate a night render without actually changing the lighting scheme in the 3D environment. As a result, it is easy for them to have a smooth gradient between day and night in the games, since only colour balance of the textures are changing.

What I propose is this:

1) To find the texture gradient that controls the alterations on textures in 24 hour mode; unless this is hardcoded into the exe, there must be something that tells the simulator what colour value is needed for night time.

2) To change this gradient, so that instead of stopping at an intense blue at night time, it will go almost all the way to black.

If this were successful, not only would the game be more realistic, but the effect of niteliting would be enhanced as well. I've heard many excellent BATers complain about how their nitelite render is more impressive before the blue-textured building is reintroduced; by leaving the base structure almost black at night, the niteliting would definitely look its best.

If anyone knows how we could procede with this mod, please don't hesitate to offer advice. Or if anyone knows who might be familiar with the .dats and where such a gradient (if it exists) might reside.

Well, in some sense yes, in others no I suppose. But anyway.........

This is indeed feasible. However, 'one of' the main issues would be with the Intersections with other networks [i.e. road x rail crossing for example].
This is not something I personally would do (though I would certainly help if someone were really keen & actually did the S3D models), mainly because it would involve changing/converting anything & everything related to ground rail to S3D models - & real 3D models, not your standard box-type model that the BAT would typically render.
    So, you're basically looking at
    -all the ground rail normal sections;
-all the ground rail junction sections [like where ground rail crosses over ground rail]
-all the ground rail x #network name here# intersections
-it could also quite possibly involve making preview sections textures/files too for all of this too [like the Monorail network has for example].

And that's a lot of files, & some testing would most likely be needed too before endeavouring on such a big undertaking, but it is indeed feasible.

Okay, regarding the idea I posted a couple of posts earlier-- about darker nights --here's a photo-shopped mock up of my sort of nighttime.

I'm not sure that it's possible, but here's my reasoning: nitelites are added overtop of a base rendering of the buildings, and this base rendering is subjected to colour balance changes to emulate different types of lighting (day, dusk, night, etc.)... so if we were to change the colour balance for night, it would potentially be doable.. but I don't know if this is something that we can change, or if it is hardcoded.

Would it be possible to make an underground highway? I dont know much about modding or batting, but since we already have subways, and a new rail-to-subway, maybe we could do the same thing with a transit-enabled lot for cars. Think of the subway analogy as a highway, and the subway-to-rail lot analogy as a highway on/offramp.

In the real world this was just done in Boston, USA. Now all of Interstate 93, plus the I-90 interchange running through downtown boston, is below the city, opening up more space on the surface, and getting rid of clutter.

Those nightlights are cool looking, I wish Maxis will implement them in the next SC.  And I hope they do something about those streaking headlights when it's on cheetah speed -very realistic effect.10.gif

Oh, and btw, will it be possible for modders to make an elevated railroad/monorail w/ station directly above an avenue or highway?  Just to conserve space for transportation.16.gif

Could someone make a riot mod? So you choose a riot in the disaster menu and then you can start a riot anywhere you want to and anytime you want to! That would be awesome!19.gif

soul5: you can try laying down tunnels of underground highways to get a similar effect... I do it all the time :) If you're having trouble creating surface tunnels, try searching STEX for the tunnel digging lots they helped me a lot.

i love the night idea...it's really cool. I think I'll do a little research into that. unfortunately, the overpass station isn't possible with current known mods.

Well, thanks for answering! It actually doesn't have to be a disaster. I just want the possibility to start a riot anytime, anywhere.

Thanks to the nice person who directed me here. I would love it if someone could write a mod to install water pipes automatically under all roads and streets. This would significantly reduce Carpal tunnel for all of us, and save a lot of time. I would even venture to offer a reward in the way of a contribution to Simtropolis in the name of the person who could do this successfully.

12.gif Tropod, I didnt see my idea mentioned in any of the replies ot topics I went through: So here goes... Could there be a mod that changes the horrible old electric lines to something more modern for example the pole of the windmill power plant minus the propellars but with 4 arms where the electrical wires attach to? kind of like a T with two crosses.

I love most of the mods out there although the one i really wanted to work i couldnt get to work (ground fog) ah well better luck with the next one for me 9.gif

    Thanks

I beg to differ, Qurlix, I d/l'd a elevated rail overpass station off one of the Japanese sites and it works like a charm. They have some of the coolest stations I've seen yet. 44.gif

I would suggest making a Zooper Car vehicle. The Zooper car looks like this:
    char-zooper.gif
some people may recognize it. According to the television series it is from, George Shrinks, It can transform from a car to a plane, helicopter, a submarine, a dune buggy, a crane, steamroller, et cetera. So I'm suggesting that the Zooper Car be made as a car, a plane, a submarine, and a helicopter. I suppose the dune buggy and steam roller could be extra road vehicles.

Request: I was wondering if it's possible to have seasonal tree color changes. For example in the fall, the trees are brown, orange and yellow, then in the spring the trees would be green. Thanks.

    Hey,
here i make a new request. In some European Cities, I don't know if it is anywhere else, they have some other street lights, they are yellow/orange and not white.

My request is, could somone make a mod that could change the street lights to yellow/Orange?

    Thanks a lot. 1.gif
