Yay! I thought I noticed you had changed your sig, and was very pleasently surprised to find this!
Really great start, I really like this kind of CJ, especially where you outline each neighbourhood, it gives it a nice feel.44.gif

The presetation of your cj is very cool! Is that a real blog? Or did you just photoshop it?

From the overview of the area, it appears that most of the zoning is residential. So where does everyone work? Can you give us an idea of where people are commuting to?

Thanks, and your region looks great!

    District Overview: Eastport

While Downtown Eureka may be the center of social and cultural life in the city, the center of commerce and trade is just across the bay in the equally-historic district of Eastport.

    EastportOverviewBack.jpg

Eastport was founded in the same year as the original village of Eureka, but as a trade port rather than a fishing town. While Eastport is part of the city of Eureka, it primarily functions as the shipping harbor for Bend, to the north. In the last 50 years, the National Navy has established a significant presence in the port, now taking more space than the industrial shipping facilities.

    PierWide3.jpg

Numerous ships are based in Eastport. Among them include an aircraft carrier, a missle cruiser, destroyers, a battleship, patrol boats and nuclear submarines. A total of 1200 sailors are based in Eastport, while around half of that number are on duty at any one time.

    PierRightShips.jpg

    PierSubBase.jpg

Along with the military facilities, Eastport's busy port is a major shipping hub for both Bend and the city of Eureka. Millions of tons of freight (incoming and outgoing) are moved through the port every year. Last year, Eastport celebrated its busiest year ever, having shipped more than 20 million tons of cargo in twelve months.

    Pier1.jpg

The main port facilities are served by the Bend-Eureka Railroad, a freight operation with tracks across the entire region. Most outgoing freight in Eastport originates from Bend, and most incoming freight is shipped north to the same city via rail line. Very little truck traffic is allowed on the roads, so the rail lines stay very busy.

East of the main harbor is the commercial center of Eastport. At this point in time, the Eastport skyline is more impressive than Downtown Eureka's, much to the pride of Eastportians and the dismay of Downtowners.

    Skyline3.jpg

Eastport's commercial center is a fairly vibrant, if small, urban zone, with numerous apartments, restaurants and nightclubs to be found. Naturally, with so many sailors around, the nightlife of the district is unrivaled by anywhere else in Eureka. Even some Bend residents take the trip south to Party In The Port now and then.

Eastport also features a number of historic and beautiful detached homes, but their values are somewhat depressed by the proximity of busy freight lines and dirty factories. Such is the hazard of living in an industrial port. However, the average price of an Eastport home is higher than a Downtown home.

    HousesTracks.jpg

The most expensive section of Eastport is naturally the beach area including Beach Street and Harbor Street. The combination of historic row houses and mid-rise condos make for a very expensive housing niche, raising the local average value significantly.

    BeachRowHouses1.jpg

    BeachRowHouses3.jpg

Houses and condos near Eastport's beach are some of the most sought-after properties in all of Eureka, and fierce bidding wars are not at all uncommon when homes hit the market. Frederick Grealy, one of the wealthiest Eurekans and president of Eastport Heavy Shipping (the largest freight company in the region), owns both a row house on Beach Street and a penthouse condo on Harbor Street. He paid hefty sums for both.

    TugBoat.jpg

The Eastport district is the economic center of Eureka. As long as the shipping industry survives, so too will the rest of the city. In the coming years, the harbor will serve a new role---that of immigration processing---as thousands of overseas economic refugees begin streaming into Eureka. The transition could be difficult, indeed.

looks awesome! Eastport is really neat! I love the names for the ships and love the townhouses on the beach! By the way when will we get to see this massive population boom occur?

The population boom is coming, don't worry. Just be patient as I try to establish a scene here, okay?

I want to thank (again) the many visitors to this CJ. Eureka! has already surpassed 1000 views in only FOUR DAYS!! That's pretty impressive.

Keep checking back, since I've got a bunch of new updates coming in the next couple of days. I'm pumping these things out like a CJ factory!!

    It's so realistic!

Very well done! Very well done indeed.
This is some of the best lower-density/even-density planning I think I've ever seen. The top-down regional view *actually* looks like a real city.

    Wonderful 44.gif

I can't be good swimming so close to a harbor. Think about the pollution and a aircraft carrier coming close to you 49.gif. The city looks nice, like the downtown. Can't wait for the polulation boom.

    Hey louisville.

I can't believe I nearly missed your new CJ. Your previous journal was a great source of inspiration. Your decision to bring it to an end before it grows too big makes sense though. And I really like Eureka. The presentation, the information and planning is fantastic. I also like the aerial views. And great choice of the map...

    Keep it up.

I like the scene setting part of this CJ, it gies us something to look back on after the good ol' population boom.
Nice update, especially that last pic of the boat, nice and tranquil.

AAARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH If it won't work this time I'm going to have to bang my head to the wall! 32.gif
This is actually the fourth time I have to retype my comment due to so-called time-outs..... (The post is getting smaller everytime i have to repost...)

    Oh well,
What I was saying is taht I really like the fact you are showing more in-city pictures than last time. The city itself is looking very good so far!
    Can't wait for the future!

I really like the focus on individual properties... gives the place some life and history.

I take it that the Smarth Growthies have taken full force here in Eureka as well.... 10.gif
