Recently I've been trying to get better about educating my sims.  I have a city with 2 elementary schools, 2 community colleges, and a high school and all but 3 students enrolled and I still have only 2 green hats.  What am I doing wrong here?

I have been lately using one grade school (fully upgraded), one high school (one classroom). I wait until both grade and high school are full, then drop a college with one module. When the college is almost teaching 2,000 then I place the university. City I am playing now has grade, high and college. Current level is a full four with the tip of five green and tech level one with the tip of two green, I've never seen a full five level so don't if it is possible or not but I have seen four &1/2.

I think more bus stops are need for a higher density. While at low one stop can handle an entire block because there is only forty or so students where a high density, low income apartment has two hundred. Buses carry 40 students so it has to make five trips from school to stop. I usually start with one per block and as buildings upgrade add more stops. Seems to work better this way for me anyway. I still see buses carrying students to school until just before 3:00 pm. Not for sure what is wrong but you have to watch traffic and distance. Sometimes moving stops from one side of the street to the other sometimes helps buses with traffic problems.

So just plopping a university will not educate all the students in your city as most have said, sims are educated equally on any level, kid or student....

I'm starting to think that you do need to keep grade school and high school open. I'm all upgraded on my university and still can't get the remaining 1400 students in class

It's not that hard, and you don't need higher education.  Just make sure you don't increase density, educate every student, and if for some reason a few students aren't going to school plop a library in that area.  Of course no abandoned buildings either.

You do need both types of education.  There are two types or students:  Primary and Secondary

Primary go to grade and high school, Secondary go to college/university

For your university, wait until you are running a city for a while, build the population up, and obtain a good bit of happiness.  Also, plop 2 Universities... Why?  It is REALLY difficult to max out a university with all modules without 2 universities.  With 2, you can literally sit there and obtain all the modules between 2 universities in a half hour of game play if you have the student numbers.  I think my current region has 6200 students between 2 cities.

Also, think of what 2 universities can do for you..  Opposite sides of cities... you could have 2 transportation hubs in your education city based around each college.  You could do an all tech college with dorms, science module, and engineering module.  Make the other all your other modules.

I thought about this, I like the idea.

Interesting.  Do you max all the modules out on each school?  Or just keep the main building module and keep building those instead?

Well, I plopped a high school with one addition and a library. Not only did it indirectly increase my university, but got me to 4 hats...fast. kinda pissed so many posters in other threads said to shut down all other schools except the university. So not true!

This isn't really true.  I have 5 hats with just a grade school.  The way students work is at 6AM or 7AM school bus stops send demand messages to residential in the "green" of the road, it does this every hour until 3PM.  The students then go to the bus stop.  Higher education like CC and Uni's will send demand messages to every single residential building in the tile, the students then take their parents car to school or use mass transportation.  Higher education demand occurs every 3 hours.

With proper mass transit you can get every student educated at one university without gridlock.

Sure you can, provided no buildings get destroyed/rebuilt/reoccupied in a long time. Having a static population with full education coverage on the enrollment will eventually get you to max level.

For school I Only upgrade It to full Capacity if it's located near high density residentials. For others I only plopped 1 or 2 additional class. I have 3 additional module for highschool, and 2 college module. I think that before patch 3.0 it is down to the placement of bus stop and school location, but i have yet to prove this my self.

Have you noticed that the university decreases education level? With elementary, high school & college I can maintain four or more but, with the university I can't get over three.

So the library educates shoppers? I have only seen shoppers going to the library and assumed they were getting goods.

I have seen that too, where plopping a university drops my education level.  thought maybe I did something wrong though.  Not sure what's up with that.

Just for the sake of discussion, I just noticed that all basic services (fire, clinic, police) are operating like a city of 5 or 6 K. Reasonably sure it is because of education. I have currently:

1 clinic - fully upgraded (28 patients)
1 small fire station - 2 trucks (0 fires)
2 small police -ea./w 10 cars & 25 cells (one w/3 prisoners, one w/2)

Education consists of;
2 elementary - one full upgrade, one no extra classrooms, both have 10 buses
1 high school - 2 extra classrooms & 8 buses
1 college - 1 extension
1 university - 1 dormitory (Level 4)

Education level is same as screenshot above and tech level a full three and population about the same. I didn't think that tech level made any difference here but rather boosts industry. So if I add the medical school, will it decrease sickness and injuries?

Sorry to revive an old thread, I did read this a long time ago and try to achieve it, and I also figure photographic proof is needed to truly bring closure to this thread.

And I have no idea why I have zero tech level.  On paper, it should be at max.

If it's true that higher education demand only occurs every 3 hours, wouldn't it be simple to solve the attendance issues by having universities call for a certain number of students every hour? You'd stagger student traffic more and avoid the backup of cars that usually happens at a university once the city grows.
