Check you land value. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not but it could.

How about mass transit?

I've had this happen as well and had a thought or two...

Some of this depends on the other cities in your region. (... and this is assuming regional play is functioning while you're playing. Sometimes it doesn't)

    • If you've got a ferry, and none of the other cities do, then there's no passengers from the other cities. Same with train, bus terminal, airport. Your transportation might be perfect, but if they've got crappy transportation there's nobody coming to visit except by car.

    • Conditions in the other cities can affect the number of tourist. If conditions are bad, nobody has money, they're not as likely to travel (or am I giving Glassbox too much credit?).

    • If the other cities are traffic jammed, can folks even GET to transportation? Likewise, they might be stuck out on the highway just trying to get in/out.

    • I've also had a theory that I can't prove, but I've wondered if "been there, done that" applies to scenic attractions? Will a tourist only come to see a specific sight a certain number of times before they're bored with it and not coming back? If so, region population counts a lot too. You need enough overall population that NEW people keep coming. Anybody have thoughts on this point?

Tourists come from the region. Not from other cities. So you can only have train, buss, boat, airport in a casino city and they will still come.

But does not the overall region population, which in theory is the combined population of all cities, affect this?

Low region population - less available outside shoppers/workers/tourist to visit your city?

For example, if I have a lot of unfilled low wealth jobs, the jobs could be filled by unemployed workers from other cities in the region who would commute in. But if my region partners did a better job balancing their cities than I did, and all their low weatth workers are gainfully employed, my jobs will go unfilled.

Tourist don't work the same way?

Even workers and shoppers "spon" in the region and come to your city. I have a region with about 8,000 low wealth unemployed workers but if I where to add up the numbers that commute in, it would be around 15,000.

And the shippers... o boy... around 10, 000 in total $+$$+$$$ unsatisfied in the region, but if I where to add up the ones commuting in to shop it would be close to 70,000.

Tourism is all about approval rating of your city, and possibly only the commercial approval.

What ends up happening is people have good approvals, small size city.  They open tourist attractions and start getting simoleons.  Then will all the extra revenues, they are like, sweet, lets expand like crazy!!!!  :D  Then they realize they've expanded way too much, fires are burning down buildings, criminals commit crimes, people start dying.  Approval plumets, and tourists have no interest in visiting dumps.

I mean would you visit a city for a vacation in which you could die, be robbed, burnt alive, etc.

well how do you explain that I had a tourist city with under 80k people (that's small for me) I fixed crime, fire, health, added education had all high attraction landmarks (Big Ben, Brandenburg Gate, Leaning Tower) and excellent mass transit with no traffic problems and expo center and every casino type in the game, ending up with 85% approval rating and even had a few 85% upgrades to my mayor mansion but had under 1.5k tourists per day (not to mention not one of them was medium wealth tourists) with events at the expo center (usually the concert) every day (barley getting 1k people in the events) and I even placed parks to have high land value all around where my tourist attractions are at, I didn't even have any industry in my city or polluting power plants, the only way that city was surviving was from my electronics city right next to it sending loads of money and the population of the electronics city was over 400k people with an 80% approval rating there

and at one point I had 5k tourists per day (that was right after I added the high school for some reason)

yes I know I fail at tourism, lol, but I'm excellent at any other type, which I think I'll stick to building

I experienced this problem too in my last two tourism oriented cities: all of a sudden tourism drops to a very low level in a city that is otherwise functioning well. If this is not a bug, it would be nice to get some feedback from the datalayers of even a yellow or red tourism button with the advisor explaining what is wrong.

I've experienced the very same thing in all the tourism cities I've made so far. Everything starts out great with loads and loads of tourists pouring into my city via rail, ferry, airport and road. Expo/stadium events hit full capacity without fail and tourism buildings pull in top dollar at around $80,000/day.

Then, for some inexplicable reason, no-one seems to give a crap about my city any more. People stop coming, events go unwatched, money goes way down.

OK so you have high wealth landmarks, which attract mostly high wealth tourists.  What is your high wealth approval rating and what % of your city is high wealth, they won't want to visit a medium wealth or low wealth commerce district.  Where is your airport located?  That's the public transport that high wealth travel.  What type of high wealth shows do you have to attract these high wealth tourists.  Expo center is for low wealth and medium wealth which come in by train, so it should be walking distance from train to be filled to capacity, I actually prefer my low and medium wealth's to mostly gamble and my population working hotels and going to the expo center for their shopper happy.

Start out simple, with expo center near train station, then add a theater next to a harbor, you should get 2000 mediums from that everyday.  When you are finally ready for high wealth Opera House next to the airport.

    Good luck.

so the high tourist attraction landmarks actually mean high wealth tourists? I have train station and airport right next to my sleek casino, I also have a municipal bus station with bus stops only near my tourist locations, no water in that city at all so no boats and your saying I need more medium wealth commercial even though none of my tourists even visit my commercial buildings? including the high wealth, as far as my mayor rating goes, high wealth is the highest, low is 2nd and medium is the lowest and I just rechecked my mayor rating it's now 89% with only 300 tourists per day until I start expo event then it goes up to 1.6k, but I only got 300 people to attend (I thought that was strange) and I also have a 2nd train station right in front of it and I replaced the theater with the Leaning Tower cause it got a smaller turn out than the expo center, my sleek casino is the only profitable casino, but only making enough to have any profit, I also have all the buildings that are suppose to bring in new tourists for every class that I can build built, only other thing I could do is build a stadium and hope it brings in a crowd, but I don't really have room for it in that city

the thing is I used to get tons of tourists and all of a sudden they slowly stopped coming even though my mayor rating is the best out of any city I ever built now and I went from 145 crimes per day when I was getting 4k tourists a day to 3 crimes a day after I added the police precinct and the high school then had 5k tourist per day and many other people are saying that tourists just suddenly stop coming no matter how they improve their cities but I'll try to add medium attraction landmarks instead and increase medium wealth buildings then tell you what happens

I experienced this problem a few days ago. All of my casinos suddenly started making 1/5 of their normal profits. My train station was bringing in 1/5 of the tourists that it had the day before.

update on my city, I added the stadium and started getting 10k tourists a day, but only 2 of the stadium events were profitable with only 7k and 8k profit and all the tourists that came from the stadium were just walked around my city for 2 days until they left saying they were looking for hotels, but my commercial would not grow any hotels, so I guess as soon as I get enough hotels for 10k tourists my city would be back on track and I spent $5mil and many game days trying to fix it, also found out that the empire state building is probably the most effective tourist building and I tried almost all of them too, it acts like a high wealth commercial building with over 500 tourists spots, it was more profitable then my casinos

It is a bug. Tourists stuck in the hotels (not casino rooms but in commercial zone hotels). To fix it go to city specialization pick tourism then click in left down corner on tourism filter (small camera). Now you will see in color only tourists, tourists attractions and commercial zone hotels (blue ones). This hotels should have a bar showing you how many visitors stays in. Now pick bulldozer tool and destroy this hotels. After a moment tourists will start visiting your city again.

    Hi GoodGoodMan,

Thank you, I tried it. Didn't worked.  :(

But you were half-way there. We need to turn-off all transportation buildings like bus depot, train station, street car depot and airport.

Then I saw all the tourists again :)

Yep, its only trains as far as I know -- just restart them proactively every couple of days to prevent them from bugging out.

You should look at the crime in the city.  I have noticed that a lot of my hotels and businesses are decaying due to crime.  I speculate that this is the reason why I have a sea of yellow cabs/cars leaving my tourist city at the moment.  I'm hoping that my investment into Lawdrones will help as traffic is really bad and my MT need all the law enforcement as possible.

Also hoping that the Space Center will save the day as it's suppose to draw tourists to cities in the region for launch day.  After 3 years of playing this game I've still not successfully built this GW.  I always run out of money trying to produce the resources. I'm 1/3 of the way there now with the resources this time around.  Slowly doing all of the coordinated efforts this time.
