my gambling city attempt, how do I attract medium wealth tourists?

this is my casino city and traffic is really good with the design, I actually got the idea of a square avenue with curved sides from http://www.simcity.com/en_US/blog/article/simcity-road-layout-guide I also used a lot of info from previous topics on gambling cities here, like having transportation for tourists only and trains and plans right next to my casinos

my population is under 80k and the only high density roads in my city is the avenues so although the traffic is backed up on the medium roads the avenues are mostly clear for the tourists to use, my biggest problem with traffic is people trying to leave my city surprisingly, which is fine with me as long as I can get the tourists in my city

the sleek casino is making good money usually (53k-73k), the elegant and sci-fi casinos are closed because I can't get any profits from them right now, in the sleek casino I had 100 high wealth tourists in it when it was open

this is the tourist map at 12pm, I have high and low tourists, but not 1 medium tourist, how do I get more of them?

also my casino profits usually around 100k per day, but with the transportation and police to support them, the only way I make money is through events at the expo center (which get smaller each day but tourist count remains the same, around 3k-4k per day), but this is the most successful gambling city I made so far

also sorry the picture are small, apparently each 1 of them was over 1MB and had to reduce the size to get them to fit, I never uploaded picture to this site yet so I was kinda new to that, message me if you know an easier way to do that

How does your tourist enter your city? I only see an airport transportation in your picture.

Just a side question, the maximum i can upload is 309.35k of files.. and your picture is 641k? How do you upload bigger than 309k?

I'm afraid I'm not much help.

This casino business is weird.  There are general guidelines to a casino city that seem to work, but attracting tourists seem to fluctuate wildly between different cities.    I have no idea why you have to medium wealth tourists.

Maxis stated that they are patching casinos and should be out in the next big patch.   From playing around with casinos myself, it seems to be bugged, but its fun to try to make it work.   A mission.

You have an expo center and oslo opera house which should attract low/medium wealth tourists.   What else do you have for culture in your city?   What is attracting the high wealth tourists?    I was able to run 3 sleek casinos with good profits but could never even come close to maxing out high wealth (I barely had any!).    I was full of medium and low wealth.

I found I could only support 1.5 sleek casinos with the expo center.   Once I built a stadium, it really brought in the tourists and I could then support 3 casinos.  Problem was I couldn't make profits on the stadium (about breaking even on the smallest event).    I then started playing around with other event centers such as Sydney Opera house and for some reason my tourists dropped off and couldn't recover.  Burned through alot of cash and ended up stabilizing again with expo center with 1 sleek casino.    Its weird.

If you have the money (gift or earn), you are going to have to play around with different culture icons.   Hopefully you figure out some magic potion but I believe the whole casino thing is broken until they patch it.   You can make some profits off of smaller gambling houses and such, but to fully ramp up to elegant casinos (or multiple big casinos) isn't going to happen until it gets patched.

Keep up informed!   Looking good so far.  :)

I have airport, UK buses above my elegant casino, and German train going right to my sleek casino, I also have Big Ben below the train station and the Brandenburg Gate between the buses and sci-fi caniso, both are high tourist attractions from the Deluxe edition and my sleek casino is always maxed out with low and high wealth tourists, I really started to get more high wealth people when I added hotels, the sci-fi casino is in the perfect spot if medium wealth people visited the expo center, since it's closed most of them walk to the low wealth casino then after it fills up they go to the sleek casino, btw I also have the building that's suppose to attract new medium wealth people attached to the low wealth casino as well as every sign built for the other casinos and expo center

the German train station is a big advantage for wait times and the UK buses cost the same but hold 20 more people per bus, in case you didn't know that

btw my favorite casino is the sleek casino, cause it's the only casino with all 3 wealths (if only I could get medium wealth people I could make a ton of money from it)

I've had problems with the arena converting medium wealth tourists to low wealth. It attracts medium wealth tourists that turn into low wealth tourists upon entering the building. The arena displays a certain count of medium wealth tourists and you can even see them enter the building, but they do not show up on the data view - they show as low wealth tourists on the data view. When the event lets out it's all low wealth tourists leaving the arena and filling up hotel rooms & gambling halls. I had a decent gambling city where this was a major problem. I ended up abandoning gambling entirely as a result - there was no way I could make it work with all low wealth gamblers and the arena eating all my $$ gamblers.

I also saw a problem with the high wealth tourists not seeing my high wealth hotel towers. They would drive around the city, say there's no hotel space and leave... meanwhile there are three functional high rise high wealth hotels sitting empty, sandwiched between a cruise ship dock and train station.  :rage:

Good luck pursuing the gambling angle.

That is one expensive arena. Maybe there is a code in the game overcharging medium wealth tourists. They lose so much money that they become low wealth. Just a theory.

Also your arena doesn't convert medium to low wealth...  you made that up.  Maybe you are confusing it with shoppers in your city which also enter the arena.

The fact that they have to drive by a hotel to know it's there is hilarious. If they're vacationing in a city they should know it has hotels. Seems kind of dumb.

my mayor ration was at 66% and the biggest complaint was crime, I added a high school and fixed crime problem and now have 81% mayor rating and I started to get medium wealth tourists finally...but police is at 11k/h, transportation is 8k/h, specialization is 8k/h, making just a little over 6k/h from sleek casino, and making 8k/h from specialization total

my expo events barley get 1k people in them, but it says I'm getting 5k tourists per day now and I've been bulldozing any commercial building with tourists in them so that the tourists spend their money in my casinos instead,

I'm losing 11k/h what else do I lack to make a profit?

I'm struggling with my casino city currently. How exactly do I attract tourists? I'm spending loads on transportation (ferry/cruise port, airport, bus terminal, streetcars etc) but I just cant make money from my casinos and tourist buildings.

Also, could somebody reply to the post above this one too? Some of the points made in it are relevant to me.

    Cheers.

Plop 2 bus stations, 3 train station, 3 ferry terminals, then plop 3 gambling houses, 2 SF casinos and 2 elegant casino around those transportation hubs. Add only capacity and/or lodging upgrades if you don't want to build hotels from commercial zones.

Run events in the expo center or pro stadium if you have the money for the pro stadium.

    Profit.

Yeah, I found the expo center/stadium as the best source of income for any tourist/casino city (I usually combine the two). Throw a few landmarks in your city, near your casinos, that will attract more sims.

It seems, eventually, though, at least for me, my casinos become unprofitable and my budget goes into the red. Not sure what's causing the problem, as I have train, bus, and airport all close to the casinos to provide the tourists.

I have 1 bus station, I have 3 train stations, 1 ferry terminal (turned off because nobody uses it), 1 airport (turned off as nobody uses it), 3 gambling houses (usually they make no profit), 1 SF casino (makes no profit at all), 1 sleek casino (makes no profit at all). The only thing which is doing well is my expo centre (and even then I only get half full attendances, which is strange becuase I have a train station right beside it while also being right beside the city entrance (I've virtually no traffic problems either).

Basically, I cant attract tourists to my city and I'm 10k in the red. I dont remember it being this hard the last time I made a casino/tourist city.

Edited to say that I have three landmarks, all of which make zero profit p/hr.

They your city must be bugged.

The only thing left for you to try out is the addition of a pro stadium and running events in it. If that doesn't make your city's streets full of tourists then nothing will.

I found the easiest way to attract tourists, was with landmarks. Without them my train station and bus terminal really struggled. With them the were at massive capacity.

Also no real need for more than one train and bus. But if you can afford it, i would plop the 3 highest tourist attractions, from the cultural tab

I've seen this response a lot and often times it's not a bug. Tourism cities are challenging if you're not familiar with them. I think if we had a collection of screen shots and data, we could pin point the problem. Tourism cities rely on a robust road layout, minimal traffic, mass transit, and excellent services. Grow slow and identify the problems, and usually you'll be alright.

Some thing isn't adding up. I can't say what it is, but perhaps I don't have all of the info.

    My two cents:

The game isn't really broken, we just are all in too much of a hurry to play it correctly. I read a thread titled "How to fix your city..." and started a new region, so far it has two great works, 8 cities, and all the cities are earning over $10,000/hr each. Very high approval rating, very low crime, very low injuries, very high education, three universities, etc.. The only issue I'm having is low population. I think the most populated one only has about 43,000 residents.

Now here's my point, with a caveat: I have no tourism and no mass transit. I'm working on making the whole region stable first. I think (like the specializations I needed to get the great works) slow and steady wins the race. Once a city is running smoothly, with a lot of profit on it's own, add a casino and keep the city stable. Continue along this path until you have the casino you want.

That's how I've been playing the last week and so far so good, but like I said, I haven't played around with casinos in this region yet. In previous attempts I couldn't get high wealth tourists, but there was no reason for them to come in. Maybe I'll try my hand tonight and see what cards I get ;)
