is there a way to improve the traffic caused by tourists?

I have a tourism city with expo center and pro stadium. When I make events both are full and at that moment there are almost 20k tourists in my city. Yes on the event day I can earn a lot that but the traffic issue is also driving me mad.

I put municipal bus depots and train statioins near the expo center and pro stadium. The thing is that, when the tourists come, they don't cause much problem because they basically use the public transport. The problem is after the event. First, all the tourists walk in my city to find a hotel, all the people walking in the street look shocking but at least it does not create jams. After all the hotels are full. They start to go home instead. and at this moment they forget about the way they come and instead drive their cars at the same time to leave the city (i don't understand how their cars are magically telepoted to my city though, lol). This is the problem. My streets keep on being totally jammed for at least one whole day and night before all the tourists leave the city, and during this time all services in the city are practically disabled. workers cannot go to work, students cannot go to school, a single fire can spread and destroy a block because the fire engine cannot reach there, lots of sickness...

Is there a way to solve this problem? are the tourists stupid or it's me...

The tourists have bad AI, like everything in this game. I tried dabbling in tourism once, the traffic killed my city.

Tourists always have bad AI. In this game, and in real life too. :kitty:

I have a city where I don't have any tourist destinations, but I built the International Airport Great Work so they come visit my city anyway.  They were jamming up the streets so I decided to follow a couple of the cars.  I can confirm just from following those that the AI is busted on tourist cars.  To an asinine level.

the way Sims in general cascade from job to job, shop to shop, house to house is my only real gripe with this game. It makes building any large scale working city impossible...

having 300k Sims all headed to a factory that can only employ 100 just because its the closest is just plain lazy and, or, bad design.

pretty sure this will be enough to discourage me from buying the upcoming DLC, you know the one that implements all the content that was purposefully left out such as bus routes, highway connections, the ability to name roads and so on. but i guess this annoyance is best left to another thread.
