Just wondering, who uses the subscribe feature to keep up on their favorite threads?

Anyone using the subscribe to author feature?

Anyone subscribed to me? LOL!! @.@;;; ok, I had to ask, but at least answer my first question

Flexible Games, my favorite type of game, also the name of my YouTube Channel *:)

I subscribe every now and then to a particularly interesting thread. Last one I subscribed to was the Rushhour one, and the next morning I ended up with 90 emails!

At present, I use them, but the ''multiple emails from one thread'' gets on my nerves a little as well.  I think an excelent way to do subscriptions would be this:

Instead of sending a copy of every reply to your email address, simply send an email saying there is a new reply, with a link to the thread.  Then when you go view the thread, your "viewed messages" would be reset so that if someone else replied after you left, you got another email saying "there are new replies to this thread."

I''m not sure if this is feasible though.  In order to make this a reality, I believe the cookie for this site would have to keep track of which threads that you are subscribed to you have viewed, and when.  But there may be another easier way.

Buggi,

If anyone subscribes to you..... we would end up with 3000 emails in one day.... well I exagerate (maybe 2000).

No, I check on every topic that I''m interested anyways.... so I never subscribe....

I subscribe to threads that I have posted to, just in case I don''t visit the forums for a few days. Haven''t subscribed to any authors yet (sorry Buggi!)

I subscribe to every thread I reply to. Just incase I miss the smallest comment.. and sometimes I forget to check the threads I replied to..

Much easier.. so I can just go directly to the thread I replied if there is a wrthy reply sent to my email.. instead of checking each one individually

GREAT FEATURE!!

I don't use it as threads don't move very fast on here. What I would like though is a view new posts link and a go to first new post for each thread.

And an icon that showed if you had posted in that thread before would be useful. This is all stuff on vB

The only time I use it is for the "My City Journals." I am currently subscribed to some of the big, nice cities that I constantly want updates for. Otherwise, threads move too fast and I get too many emails.

A commonly overlooked feature is the "Posted Today" link at the top.  Shows all new posts for the day (or previous days).

I''ll subscribe to interesting threads that might have slowed down but I feel will get updated. Mainly for experiments.

And even then, I don''t send it to the email, I send it to the profile area, like the private messages.

Not anymore.

I once subscribed to a thread called "Give me a hundred replies" on the official Simcity 4 site. When I came back to work after the weekend and checked my mail account, I had about 70 emails in it. That was the last time!

hey, talk about a[n somewhat] old thread....................

I don't always use subscriptions, but a lot of the time I do. I don't know why I bother with them now though really, as I rarely get any of the emails from subscribed threads anymore for some reason [i think it may be because my ISP, but I'm not really sure].

I'm not here to point out the blatantly obvious, but why the heck would you subscribe to a thread called that ?!?

I mean, look at the title. "Give me a hundred replies" is a topic I would honestly be skeptical of. Let's be honest, by subscribing that thread, you were honestly asking for that

.

Oh, and just curious, were all of the replies like "what's the point of this?" and "wtf?" or "this is pointless." ?!?

I should imagine the thread was deleted not too much later (or at least I would hope so). If it hasn't been deleted, point it out to the moderators over at the SimCity.com (or as I prefer to say, SimCity.ea.com) forums.

I suspect that they would share my opinion that this thread was blatantly pointless and should not stay.

Haha! 22.gif24.gif22.gif

Oh man!  You subscribed to that thread?  That is most likely the 100 replies thread I started a long time ago, before I found Simtropolis.  I did get the 100 replies, but was deleted soon after.

No, and now that I hear about the 100 emails, I will most likely never do it.

I haven't subscribed to anything. If I want to know when something is replied to or somebody posts, I can just go and look... I don't want to clutter my inbox in Outlook Express....

Well, I do subscribe.  However, my option to view my subscribe list isn't around, now that I look for it.  Also Im reciving hundreds of PM's here at Simtropolis becuase of how this subscribing thing works now.

So lets recount:
How it used to be:
You could subscribe and view a list (by date when updated)
1. A reminder sent to your email
2. A reminder sent to your PM
3. You could subscribe without using either of the above (using just the list)

Now:
You can subscribe (no list - unless you count the list where YOU post)
1. A reminder sent to your email
2. A reminder sent to your PM

As it is now, I have 10 (excuse me 16) new messages of new posts.  NOT what I wanted... but posts non-the-less.  How about just letting me use the List (which doesnt exist).  I want to come online click on subscribe list and view (by date when updated) threads that I subscribed to.  I don't want to come each day to find links and more links to a page where I can finally view the new comments.

This is very frusterating seeming all I want is something simple and doesn't send millions of new posts where they shouldn't be.  Up to 18 new messages now...
