Typically if you have wind blowing pollution from industrial zones into your residential areas, you will get germs. Also, make sure you don't have sewage backup and garbage (they make sims sick too).

My mining and industry city is plaged by over 250 sick people a day in a city where the only buildings that have germs are two coal power plants, a trash dump, a recycling centere and 5-10 commercial buildings. I bulldozed all my industry almost half a year of in game time ago but the pollution is still in the ground while the 5 mines, 3 smelters and 2 coal power plants create loads of air polution.

I did put them all on the side of the map and the wind is blowing the pollution out of the city but the problem is that the workes can get sick to and its unavoidable. extremely profitable dou.

The Hospital Wellness Center's Wellness vans "teach sims hygiene". Basically the same mechanics as firefighters. They go to a building or a few every day and remove germs.

    • Avoid pollution blowing towards the city. But many times you can't. So keep only necessary industrial blowing towards the city, and build the rest at the opposite side. Also that will help you limit all the traffic going one way.

    • Hospital wellness vans, and medical coverage across the whole map (including industrial area).

    • Good garbage/recycling collection.

    • Clean sweage.

    • Natural parks and cover all unused land with trees, including around mines, smelting etc. And replant the areas as soon as the trees are gone.

Constantly planting trees in the paths of pollution, or in areas with high ground pollution, seems to help. The various overlay maps (air pollution, ground pollution, water pollution) is also a good way to find out what's causing the germs problems.

Eh, sometimes it can't be helped. I've had new cities somehow receive air pollution, when polluting cities are nowhere close by, and not even upwind of the current city location. The wellness van is a decent solution to clear germs, except some buildings will always create a huge amount of germs (waste processing plant, any dirty power plants, landfill, and any streetcar stop that ever had a sick person).

That's due to the double pollution applyment bug. The game applies your pollution level to your city, then applies regional pollution from all over the region into it.

This is correct. There is a bug currently that applies your pollution to your city from the region even though the region may be empty.

They are supposedly fixing this bug in the next patch.

Also worth mentioning: high tech industry produces minimal pollution, so creativity can flourish better. Germs should be tackled early, like crime otherwise they spin out of control (not extreme like crime but still...)
