UK launch on Friday

I live in the UK and this game comes out on Friday, I pre ordered the collectors edition. I've seen that origin keeps crashing, servers won't load/you have to queue to get in. Cities have disappeared/deleted by the server. Will these problems be solved by Friday or is it best to wait to play until they fix everything?

You've preordered it so why would you want to wait and not play it?

Just expect a few issues or you might have none.

Origin has claimed that they've fixed all the issues and everything should be working well for the European launches.

One of the major problems with the North America launch was actually that Origin thought a lot of American IP address were actually European, so American players (especially in L.A.) were getting a "Game not yet released" status on SimCity. :/

The UK launch will be pretty strenuous on the servers, because it's a relatively large market. Plus, we're going to be using the Europe West 1 server, which everyone else in Western Europe (e.g. France, Germany, both large markets) will hop on tomorrow. I'd expect some issues, but not to the extent of the NA launch.

I've preordered the physical copy from Amazon, which should be dispatched tomorrow. I am desperate to get my hands on it, I loved the beta. I will expect some problems but hopefully Origin will be sorted by Friday.

These issues will be sorted in a few weeks/a month for the US but until then it will be a painful experience trying to play the game. Diffiuclt to know whether it will be the same for Europe but I wouod certainly guess it will be no different. And the US will be first to get any fixes, Europe will be less of a priority. I certainly I would cancel any preorders and buy it later once they have resolved all the problems - otherwise you are throwing your money away for a broken product for no reason. Dont pay for stuff that you know is bust, that is just stupid.

I think it will be OK.

The one advantage of a server-side game like this is that fixing bugs is muuuuuch quicker because you only have a handful of updates to roll out instead of thousands. So once things are ironed out, I think you'll find it settles down quickly.

The whole "US region will get updates first" thing is simply not true. Although Maxis have 'regional' servers for the sake of spreading out the load, they are all accessible by everyone, and all running the same software versions, so any updates will get rolled out together. Nobody is going to be left hanging...

I know all this release drama is frustrating, but its inevitable really. Increasing capacity extensively to cater for a 5 day peak demand is just not good business sense. All this drama hasn't affected EAs bottom line, they still have your money. They have a monopoly on the simcity market!

I get the impression Maxis is a small team, with a small development budget (no EA exec in their right mind is going to risk a massive lump of cash on a game that hasn't been made for 10 years!). Based on the success of this launch and sales over the next few months, I think you'll see more resources being put into it.

It also didn't help that the US launch coincided with Crysis (or whatever it was...).

I'm looking forward to playing.

There shouldn't be much problem come tomorrow due to the rest of the world having the game preloaded.

Gaming downloading uses much more bandwith and server stress than playing cities.

If anything UK and Oceania will have trouble due to their horrible internet service.

Mainland EU will be fine...

Anyways I already use Europe West 1 as my main server due to the time difference from Michigan (~7 hours).

This means when I hop on in the late afternoon Europe is in bed.
