Did I see a new version of the NAM on the stex the other day around lunch time?  I could have sworn I did.  Maybe it was just a dream?

Still waiting for version 31 to come out today....although admittedly I haven't checked yet to see if it's available now.

It'll be all over the front page of Simtropolis once it's done.  The deadline is supposed to be midnight (in the farthest west time zone, so the very last minute of March 1st on the planet is fair game).  The team has implied they're busy working to the last minute, it's not quite done yet.

Obviously I'm mature enough to understand they want to get it done right.  But what I don't understand is why they posted a release date of March 1 in the first place.  That would imply it was finished and ready for release, but just being held back until a specific date...kinda like when a movie studio announces a movie will be released on such and such a day.  The movie is finished.  They're just holding it back until a given date.  So admittedly I'm a bit surprised to find myself still waiting for it at 9:30pm EST.  Nevertheless, don't get me wrong...I'm not complaining.  Just posting a stray thought.

Well, I always tell myself that I'll get my homework done by 9, and actually get enough sleep...but....

When they posted the release date, they had no idea what 'finished' would be.  They went on adding content, continuously working until their feature freeze cutoff date (a few weeks ago).  The last few weeks they've been bug testing and writing the documentation.  This was all discussed in the NAM's threads.

Personally, I think they were so caught up in adding new stuff that they made a release date to force themselves to update the public version.  :D

It's looking like my countdown to 11:59pm my time is going to be pretty accurate.  Fixing up a few last things as best I can.

Hmmm, let's see....do I want to wait up until 3:00 in the morning, my time?  Tomorrow is Saturday, so it's not like I have to go anywhere.  But then I also know I'm a light sleeper, and will probably be awake at 9:00, so do I want to be tired all day?

I have to get out of the sack at 0700.  It doesn't matter as long as it is there when I want it, which won't be for a week or so.  Happy overloaded bandwidth everyone.

Well, I downloaded it about 45 minutes ago....206MB. m1436.gif  Didn't install it.  Then I deleted it after reading about all the bugs in it.  So I'll wait until sometime later.  For now, I'm fine with the version of NAM I'm using.

Bugs?  After all that wait?  I guess they've never heard of a development cut off followed by a Q.A. period.  Cramming stuff in at the last minute is usually fatal.

It should be noted the first few days post-NAM release are like this. Opening the mod to everyone means more eyes to point out bugs and any other issues we missed, and will be fixed in a update about a week or so after the initial release.

Remember, it's been 18 months since the last one came out so some people may not remember how these things work :P

We've always had people who, 5 minutes after even our most thoroughly tested releases, slap us with a bug report and ruin the honeymoon.  That's simply something to which we've become accustomed.  We're treating this like an open test.

Given the enormous complexity of the NAM, there will always be bugs that can't be identified from pre-release testing. Although a release date doesn't help, it's unfair to expect mods like this to be "bug free". As with software, the initial post-release period is used to gain user feedback. Then, the reported issues can hopefully be looked into.

I wasn't around here for all the previous launches of new versions of the NAM.  By no means was I trying to say it should be completely bug free.  I was just commenting that I will wait until the bugs are ironed out before downloading it again.  It's a huge download, relatively speaking, for a game mod.
