So far, I think your city sounds like a very interesting little spot (since I have been talking to you in MSN) but the beach on that banner pic looks good. One tip, make sure to use a good form of anti-alising for font, the edges in that banner look a little jagged to me 14.gif !

    thanks for the comments everyone!

    as promised here is Woodshore Point!10.gif'); height=15 alt=Insert smilie 10.gif src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/10.gif width=15 border=0>

Woodshore Point is the biggest tourist spot in the region so far complete with beaches, hotels, resturaunts with sea view, shopping centers, marinas, a country club, a beach club, and of course a beautiful downtown to visit...

    /idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_OVERALL1.jpg

i split my city up into communities and making highways the only way connecting them.  this is a very realistic and effective way to make a transit system.  the system i am about to show you throughout this city forces sims to take a certain route to work and forces traffic a certain way. this helps to lower congestion and makes you life a whole lot easier3.gif'); height=15 alt=Insert smilie 3.gif src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif width=15 border=0>

you should try this method yourself...

well here is a pic of the Northeast Community bordering the 1-Expressway. This expressway is trenched down in the ground and is a regional expressway getting you where you need to go fast. I call these trenchways, there are also many other names for these...

    /idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_NORTHEASTCOMM12.JPGhttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_NORTHEASTCOMM12.jpg>

Most of the sims in this community go to work in the neighboring city, Seaside Hills, in the mid-town area.

here is another pic of the Northeast Community with the one and only Toys R Us and one of the two Wegman's Grocery store oh yes and dont forget the Eastwood Hospital giving Woodshore Point a healthy population.

    /idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_NECOMM21.JPGhttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_NECOMM21.jpg>

Well that is it for now...

More updates of Woodshore Point to come!

    Once again comments are appreciated!

Good work. Gotta love Toys R Us. I like how you have organised traffic control, with only one access point to the highway in certain areas. 44.gif44.gif

Looks interesting.  IMO, you really don't need to overdo the highways.  A single line through the city would save space, money, and it would look better, too.  I see you are using my viaduct method.

Anyway, I'd like to see some traffic volumes, counts, etc....

    SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

DuskTrooper: yes i could have put a big highway line throught the middle of it but that would ruin the plans i had at the beginning for my city and i don't think it would look too good with just a highway line through the middle.

Oh yes traffic maps and such i will post maybe next update or the one after that. Theres a small chance i might post it after im done with showing the city but thats a very small chance.

I really like how the highways blend into the landcape instead of protruding out like they do in my region. Also like the traffic control! Unfortunately I can't do any of that because too many cars would get backed up on one ramp and ruin all of the commute times and everything. Perfect for a small city like this though! Niiice.

And yeah, the highways are the perfect divisions for communities; I do it myself.

oh and if you have a slightly larger community than what i have maybe put an extra on-ramp or two but keep them close.(in med or high dense areas i do different zoning than this)

cool..nice beach area. Did you make the buildings historical or plopped them?

    thanks10.gif

neither. i just have a lot of R$$$ demand and a mod i have made to make 2x2 R$$$ lots low dense because i think the 3x3 R$$$ low dense is too large of a yard and is unrealistic 2x2 is much better2.gif

First off, you've done a beautiful job with your city and I can't wait to see what else the region has in store.

My only constructive critism I have for you is about the downtown area. Very rarely will zoning change from high density commerical to low density residential right away as it does in your city. I think the city could achieve a more realistic look if the skyscrapers gave way to lower density commercial, interspersed with some medium/ high density residential living. I think this would make the transition in zoning much more realistic.

Jeff K: thanks for the comment. also i do think you are right that i should have some med dense to gradually lower it out but in some beach cities they have low dense all around and skyscrapers spread throughout the city. i did the same thing but instead put all the skyscrapers together in one main downtown. i probably will though put med dense to gradually lower it out in any further downtowns.

thanks for all the comments everyone!1.gif

ok update time! sorry if the update is late...i had a little problem with photoshop.

now moving on to the South Community and the office park bordering it...

here's a shot of where the South Community began, oh yes and don't forget the second Wegman's Grocery Store located in this city and also a McDonalds! (I'm Lovin' It!18.gif'); height=15 alt=Insert smilie 18.gif src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/18.gif width=15 border=0>)

    /idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_SOUTHCOM1.JPG

Now moving southwest to the west side of the South Community

    /idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_SOUTHCOMM2.JPG

Now lets stroll on in to the one other place than downtown to grab an office job...the office park

    /idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_SmallOfficePark.JPG

finally like i promised here is the traffic congestion, volume, mayor rating, $, and population. Notice if you use my traffic strategy you can accomplish all green congestion. also notice in the volume shot that most of the cars travel to downtown, the office park, or take 1-Expressway to the neighbors mid-town.

    /idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_TRAFFICCONG.JPG

    /idealbb/files/WSHOREPOINT_TRAFFICVOL.JPG

    more updates to come!10.gif'); height=15 alt=Insert smilie 10.gif src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/10.gif width=15 border=0>

also i probably will add the populations of the Northeast Community and the South Community tonight. I will add the rest of the populations for communities when i show them.

This CJ is facinating and if I was rich, I would move to the south community because it looks too beautiful.

I will say, I like how this city is coming along, all the different areas and designs.

The only thing that annoys me is the repeated buildings, but that is normal for SC4 (which I hate!) but overall it looks great!
