There has to be a common thread between those who have full use of STEX and those like me who are unable to view STEX.

Some have suggested it may be the Browser that some of us are using. So if your able view STEX with no problems what Browser are you using?.Thanx

I use IE6.  I'd use Firefox, but my dad wouldn't let me. And I don't have any problems with viewing ST (except for the View Member Directory in the Personal Section, but I've used the View Member Directory on other machines that run IE6 and had no problem).

Why on Earth will your dad not let you use Firefox?

I use FF and IE but FF lacks only one thing and that is RTF capability. Is there any browser which has RTF capability and tabbed browsing??

The reason that you can't use rich text is that IdealBB is badly programmed.

I'm using Firefox 1.5 beta and everything is working fine for me.
And yes, idealbb really does suck in terms of compatibility for good browsers.

I use mainly Opera, with IE as a backup. I occasionally use Firefox. I really like Opera, but it has a strange bug and won't let me post at Simtropolis. When I click on the submit button, nothing happens. Everything else works fine for me, though.

P.S.- In case you didn't know, Opera is now free without ads. The premium version adds tech support.

RTF = Rich Text Format; All the fancy buttons and features and colour options u see when u are about to post on ST using IE, is because of the RTF ability.

I dont know whether FF is RTF capable; cause i use Yahoo mail and i cant insert any smilies or anything, there are only plain text options available there; same as ST forums when using FF.

So most likely that the sites are not designed to be browsed with FF.7.gif26.gif

The issue is that IdealBB uses a rich text editor that only Trident browsers, like IE can use. Yahoo, however, probably uses a javascript rich text editor, which is available in all browsers. It is not whether FF is RTF capable.

Oh, bugger. I was just about to ask this question myself.
I, too, use Opera (the latest one, v8.5) and the bloody thing does not let me post. So I had to use IE. Shame this bug can't be corrected.

ezoons, you could switch to Firefox. I use firefox on almost everything HTML.

And also check if your browser accepts cookies. If they don't, you can't login properly.

I use Internet Explorer 6.0 with no problems. I will also get FireFox when the final version of the latest version is released and then I will use both depending on which one is best for the site I am visiting.

I edited the thread title a little to reflect the question in the thread.

I'm using Firefox 1.0.7 and have had one incompatibility with STEX. I wanted to untrack some lots, so I clicked on the track this file box. STEX gave me an error message that basically said you can't do this. I switched over to IE and untracked those files with no problem.

BTW, when using IdealBBS, or at least ST's flavor of it, I get the RTF options but implemented as HTML. There're buttons to handle the tags at the top of the posting window to handle the tag syntax for you. The other BBS software packages, such as phpBBS, basically use a variation on HTML.

Another nice feature of Firefox is extensions. They're little modular packages that users write to extend the capabilities of the browser. There's one I use that will let me open the page I've browsed to in IE on the fly. It's rare that I find a page that I have to view in IE, basically Windows Update and a particular Sims 2 site I like. I think it's called ViewIE. The one drawback to this extension is I have to log back into a site if I've never used it in IE because IE and other browsers don't share their cookies. (I guess their mothers never taught them that sharing is good.)

Extension management is found in the Tools menu. The manager has a link to a whole bunch of extensions on the Mozilla webpage. The one problem I've had with the Firefox beta is a good half of my favorite extensions aren't compatible with it, so I'm just using the last stable release.

Y'know what? The pros and cons of alternative browsers should probably be put into a thread in the Off Topic forum...
